Zoya's breath hitched, suddenly conscious that Asad was busy staring at her, paused in that moment with his arms around her. She blinked stupidly, aware that her body was almost horizontal to the ground, the strength of Asad's arms being the only thing breaking her fall.
Zoya saw a flash of lightning through the window behind Asad's shoulder and cringed. The sound of thunder would follow closely, and then Asad would regain his composure and move away immediately. This was no time for games, she had to act fast. Without thinking any further, Zoya leaned her head up towards Asad's. It was now or never.
"Asad!! Kahan ho tum? Aaj office nahi jaana hai kya?" Dilshaad's voice rang into Asad's ears, making him turn to the direction of the sound immediately. His eyes closed involuntarily as he felt soft lips make contact with his cheek, thunder roaring through the house at the same time. Did Zoya just... kiss him?
Zoya stared at Asad's closed eyes, biting her lower lip nervously. That certainly hadn't gone as planned. She hadn't expected him to turn away like that while she was leaning in for his lips. Now how was she going to explain her behaviour? She watched Asad slowly open his eyes after soaking in the moment, turning to her with an awfully confused look on his face.
"Woh main... I mean, I was trying to straighten up and then... I didn't realize you had looked away! So then... you didn't realize I was straightening up. I mean, because you were looking away. Toh yeh... accidentally hogaya," Zoya explained lamely. She noticed the corner of Asad's lip twitching in an attempt to hide his amusement. This time she really straightened up and removed herself from Asad's hold, just as Dilshaad walked in from the back. Asad moved his hands behind his back immediately, and Zoya quickly bent down again to continuing dabbing the spilled coffee on the ground.
"Yeh kaise hua?" Dilshaad asked, genuinely puzzled. She looked back and forth between Asad and Zoya, quick to notice the evident flush on their faces. She pursed her lips as she tried to control her smile from showing. These two could be so hilariously obvious at times.
"Kuch nahi Ammi! Aap jaanti hai na, Miss Farooqui kitni clumsy hai. Aur haan main office ke liye nikal hi raha tha. Allah hafiz Ammi!" Asad spoke in a rush, dismissing the situation entirely and striding to the front door determinedly. Zoya shot a glare at his retreating back and continued wiping the floor, completely oblivious to the fact that Dilshaad was smiling fondly at their interactions as she too walked off.
Zoya stood up and walked to the trashcan at the kitchen after a while, dumping the coffee-soaked tissue paper pieces into it. She dusted her hands on her jeans absentmindedly as she thought about what more she could possibly do now. Maybe she should go to the Badi Masjid area again to research about her father's whereabouts again. After all, she only had until Friday.
But then again, she also only had until Friday to figure out a way to kiss Asad! She stared at the front door, trying to make up her mind. Even if she went to the Badi Masjid area now, she'd be distracted by this kiss issue. She needed to get that out of her system first. Should she go to his office? But that'd be a little... desperate. Plus, she still had no idea how to make him kiss her anyway. Maybe she should do research on that instead!
Zoya turned away from the front door and walked towards her room. First she'd figure out a way to kiss Asad, and then she'd go back to the Badi Masjid area to find clues about her father, that was a promise... to herself at least.
Zoya sat down on her bed and rummaged through her covers to find her iPad. She really ought to stop keeping the room in such a huge mess. Asad would hate that after nikaah. Wait, what? The nikaah wasn't actually going to happen anyway! Zoya slapped her forehead in an attempt to slap some sense into her head. She picked up her iPad and began her research immediately.
After a short while, Zoya placed her iPad next to her and sighed dejectedly. Well the internet certainly had useless advice:
Make sure you're alone with the person - Well duh! Besides, she's been alone with Asad countless times, sometimes in his room, sometimes in her room, sometimes even in the garden. How would that be any different from usual?
Make casual physical contact - Let alone casual physical contact, they'd already gone beyond that. All the times she'd fallen on Asad, all the times he'd carried her, all the times he'd held her by her arms. They were definitely past that stage.
Come close to his face - Hmm, let's see. She had come close to him just this morning. And many other times as well, when he's held her during her clumsy moments, their faces had been nose to nose. So this wasn't new either then.
Zoya watched her iPad screen turn black as it hibernated and sighed yet again before leaning back and collapsing on her bed. Now that she'd thought about it, she and Asad had already fulfilled all the silly criteria the internet had put up. So why hadn't they kissed?
