Mehrunissa now named Pehle Aap Janab
Much has been speculated about the cast, story and name of Sudhir Mishra's Mehrunissa. Speaking to Bombay Times for the first time, Mishra who has co-written the script with his protg Nikhil Advani, says the reworked script also revolves around Mehrunissa played by Chitrangda Singh. She still remains the more dominating character. However, in the earlier version of the script, the two legends ' Amitabh Bahchcan and Rishi Kapoor ' both of who are friends, fall in love with Mehrunissa. Now, there is a slight twist in the treatment. Sudhir intends to make it a romantic comedy. So the silver-haired filmmaker is now reworking the script. The film in its new avatar will be titled Pehle Aap Janab and is about two friends played by Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor who have not met for 40 years and how excitement returns to their lives when Chitrangda's character (she may still be named Mehrunissa) becomes the trigger point. The film will now be seen through the eyes of
their friendship.
Pehle Aap Janab is also an ode to Lucknow, a secular city. Yet in the case of the film, one of the characters is a Muslim and the other is a Hindu and they hate each other. Their hatred for each other, of course, has nothing to do with religion. While Sudhir was earlier all ready to shoot the film, he is now looking out for two younger actors to be cast and the script to be re-worked before he begins the principal photography.
If you recall, Sudhir had earlier reworked the script of Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi which was first titled Tryst With Destiny. We are sure, even in the case of Pehle Aap Janab, the changes will turn out for the best.
