"Hey! Abhi tumhe call karne hi waala tha. Kaisi ho?"

"Jhute! Call karna hota toh ab thak kar chuke hote"

"Anuu…bahut pehle kar chuka ho tha, phir socha ki shaayd rest kar rahi hogi issi liye…"

"Haan, haan whatever" Anu pouted.

Shree on the other end chuckled, imagining precisely how her face looked at the moment.

"Accha woh chodo, ab kaisi ho yeh batao…"

"Kal hi toh mile the, itne main kya badal gaya hoga? Main thik hoon, bas bahut bore ho rahi hoon"

"Kyun? Maa, papa, Riya, Arjun sir…itne saare log hain ghar main, bore kyun ho rahi ho?"

"Maa aur papa ghar pe nahi hain. Mere liye kuch medicines laane gaye hain. Riya aur tumhare Arjun sir apne room main hain…pata nahi kya kar rahe hain…" Anu trailed off thoughtfully, while Shree laughed and added,

"Pata karna bhi nahi hain…"

"Haan waise bhi Riya bhai se naraaz hain. Pata nahi subha subha kaha chele gaye, aur ab ghar aake bahut mysterious ban rahe hain…bata hi nahi rahe hain ki kaha gaye…"

"Aur yeh Arjun sir hain, unse kuch pata lagana…almost impossible hain" Shree added.

"Hmm…" Anu agreed and after a pause she said, "…ab tum yeh sir, sir kehna kab band karoge?"

"Matlab?"

"Matlab ab toh unhe sir kehna band karo…I mean, office ke baahar"

"Sir nahi bulaata toh kya bulaata unhe?"

"Bhaiya of course!!"

There was silence for a few seconds filled with Shree's surprise, "Main? Arjun sir ko? Bhiaya? Pagal ho gayi hain kya??"

"C'mon Shree, aaj nahi toh kal bhaiya bulaana padega na...aur phir…"

"Kyun? Kyun bulaana padega??" Shree interrupted her.

Anu huffed, "Zindagi bhar tum aur main issi tarah se toh nahi rehenge na Shree? Shaadi toh karoge na mujhse??? Tab toh bulaaoge na unhe bhaiya???"

Once again silence prevailed between them before Shree broke it, "Wow! Aaj taan ke rakha hain na…mujhe surprise pe surprise dene ka"

Anu, as if just realising what she said blushed and smiled shyly only to vanish with Shree's next question.

"Waise, kisne kaha ki tumse shaadi karoonga?? Hmm…sochne waali baat hain, zindagi bhar ek hi ladki ke saath…"

"Shrrreee, tumhare Arjun sir ko bata doon…that you are having second thoughts about us?? Aur haan, Sameer bhai ko mein kaise bhool gayi? Unhe batane main toh mujhe bahut mazza aayega…" Anu trailed off laughing.

"Haan, haan tumhe toh mazza hi aayega na? Tumhare bhaiyon ko chodo, mujhe toh yeh samajh main nahi aa raha hain ki maa ko kaise bataun??" Shree said, real worry now taking over.

"Arre haan, abhi tak naaraz hain kya aunty bhai se??"

"Thoda sa! Par kuch matlab nahi hain yaar naaraz hone main…I mean I have told her so many times that if Arjun sir didn't shoot me then Sikander would have and I would have…."

"Shree please!! Kitni baar kaha hain ki un sab ke baare main mujhse baat math karro…" Fear and irritation boiled in her.

"Oh sorry Anu! Main toh bas…"

"Accha chodo! Main…main rakh rahi hoon, I'll talk to you later"

"Anu aisa math ban yaar! I understand whatever happened was…"

"Shree please!! Main rakh rahi hoon, bye!!" she said more gently not wanting to hurt his feelings and disconnected the call.

Meantime in the other room….

After a few moments of silence, her eyes flew open remembering something. She jerked off him making him turn towards her.

"Kya hua?"

"I am supposed to be angry with you…"

Arjun chuckled and looked at her adoringly, while she narrowed her eyes at him.

"Oh c'mon Riya, ab chodo na…"

"Chodo? Arjun you have been missing since morning and when I called…you…you cut my call!!!" she sported a look of total disbelief and anger making Arjun laugh.

"Oh ya! Sorry about that, actually uss waqt kissi se baat kar raha tha issi liye…"

Riya was about to ask who he was talking to, but knew she wouldn't get an answer so remained quiet. Arjun sensing her next question smiled and added,

"Kisse baat kar raha tha yeh bata saktha hoon…but it will ruin the surprise, so you decide, should I tell you or not?"

"Surprise?" when Arjun nodded she pouted a little and continued, "No, I don't want to ruin the surprise…but it better be good ACP…bahut gussa hoon…"

He smiled knowing that would be her answer and pulled her close to him once again. She too smiled widely and hugged him back. She was just snuggling into his chest when she remembered something…again. Much to Arjun's annoyance she jerked away from him…again.

"Will you please stop doing that!!" He exclaimed.

Riya eyed the door nervously and said, "maa aur papa baahar hain Arjun, woh kya soch rahe…"

He rolled his eyes and cut her off saying, "Woh baahar gaye hain, Anu ke kuch medicines laane. Aur tumhe kya lagta hain Ri, unhe baahar bitaake maine tumse…" he shook his head and got off the bed, annoyance written all over his face.

Riya smiled finding his annoyance cute. She walked to stand in front of him and held her ears,

"Sorry, mood karaab kardiya na. Sorry baba, ab chodo na!! Please…" when he didn't pay heed, she stood on the tip of her toes and planted a soft kiss on his cheek, immediately melting him. He turned to look at her, smiles of happiness and content etched on their lips they looked at each other, communicating all the love and understanding for each other silently.

Their sweet little moment was once again interrupted, this time the interruption wasn't Riya herself but her phone.

"Lo, soch hi raha tha ki kaise poore do minute nikal gaye interruption ke bina…" Arjun said as Riya looked at him guilty before walking to the bed and answered the call.

"Haan Shree bolo…"

"Riya, woh abhi Anu se baat kar raha tha toh…" Shree went on to explain most of his and Anu's conversation.

"Lagta hain woh phir upset hogayi hain. Tu ya Arjun sir jaake usse baat karro na please…" Shree ended in a concerned tone.

"I'll talk to her Shree. Tum tension math lo…" Arjun said who listened to everything Shree said as Riya switched to speaker early in the conversation.

"Sir, actually woh itna darr gayi hain uss haadse ke baad ki, agar casually usse mere work ke baare main kuch baat karoon toh bhi irritate ho jaathi hain…uske chehre pe darr dikh jaata hain sir. I am just worried that aage jaake aise bahut saare…"

"I understand what you are saying Shree. Usse samjhana hoga, don't worry I'll talk to her" Arjun assured him again and ended the call after asking him about his health.

Arjun knocked on the door before slightly opening it and peeked in.

"May I come in?" he asked his sister who sat on the bed resting against the head-board, looking lost.

"Bhai…" she rolled her eyes at his formal tone and beckoned him in. He smiled and walked in, sitting on the bed facing her.

"Riya kaha hain?" she asked immediately seeing she didn't follow him into the room.

"Humare liye adrak waali chai banane gayi hain" he smiled seeing his little sister's widened eyes.

"I could do with some piping hot tea right now!!" she said.

"Hmm pata hain, issi liye gayi hain chai banane…"

Anu looked at him puzzled when he added,

"Shree ka phone aaya tha…"

She rolled her eyes understanding what Shree would have told her brother.

"Bhai main thik hoon"

"Maine kab kaha ki tu thik nahi hain? Bas woh Shree tumhare liye tensed tha, toh aagaya dekhne…"

Anu smiled and nodded before looking away.

"Waise banda bahut pyaar kartha hain tumse…" Arjun said making Anu blush a pretty pink. He chuckled seeing her all shy and happy, he got up from where he sat and moved to sit next to her. He flung an arm around her shoulder and pulled her to his side.

"Anu tumse kuch kahoon toh bura nahi maanogi na?" he asked her as she rested her head against his shoulder.

"Bhai aapko nahi lagta aaj aap kuch zyaada hi formal ban rahe hain??"

Arjun smiled and nodded before saying what he came there to say,

"Anu jo bhi hua hain…main jaanta hoon ki yeh aasaan nahi hoga par…tumhe bhoolna hoga aur aage bhadna hoga. Main jaanta hoon, given sometime you'll do just that…I am not here to force you to forget everything that happened. You take as long as it takes you to get back to your routine…Shree yehi chaah tha hain, maa aur papa, mein aur Riya sab yehi chaah the hain…"

Anu silently listened to him. She didn't look up at him but nodded still resting her head on his shoulder as he continued,

"What I am here to talk to you about, is your future with Shree" Anu tensed under his arm and slowly looked up to see him.

"Anu, Shree ek police officer hain, and he belongs to a team that requires him to be on field fighting with crime every day. That's what he does, that's what he is good at doing and knowing him, he loves doing what he does. Anu what I am trying to say is, whatever happened in the last one month or so…it's not the first time something like this happened and I can assure you, it won't be the last…

Aur bhi aise kahi cases aayenge jaha Shree ko aur poore team ko apne jaan pe khel kar kuch karna ho, and we will not think twice before doing that. I am not trying to scare you Anu…just laying out the facts for you. If you really want to spend the rest of your life with Shree, then you will have to understand and accept his life as an ETF officer. Anu ek officer ki sister hona aur ek officer ki wife hona, bahut different hota hain.

Heey…tum samajh rahi ho na mein kya keh raha hoon?" Arjun asked her gently caressing her hair.

"Aage jaake aisa kuch bhi ho sakta hain jaha…" he looked at his sister to see her pale and anxious. He smiled sadly, he hated to say all this to her but it was only the truth. She needs to understand completely and prepare herself. He cupped her now completely drained face in his huge hands and continued,

"…darne se kuch nahi hoga Anu. You have to become strong and face any situation that is thrown at you, and no matter what happens just be proud of Shree for what he does"

He ended what he wanted to say with his head tilted to a side and eyebrows arched high up on his forehead as if asked if she understood what he said.

Everything her brother so loving said rang in her ears as she thought over it. She smiled hesitantly and nodded just as Riya and her parents came in, with five cups of tea on a tray in the formers hands. Once everyone had their cup of tea, the family started chatting about nothing in particular but cherished the moment of togetherness.

Arjun put an arm around his sister again reassuringly, as she snuggled in and sipped on her tea.
