Ekta Kapoor and team booked for hurting religious sentiments
Film and Television serials Producer Ekta Kapoor, her mother Shobha Kapoor, four members of her team involved in production of serial Pavitra Rishta and Zee TV owner have been booked by the Nakodar police under section 295 A of IPC for hurting religious sentiments of Valmiki community.
The case has been lodged after Rauni Gill,President of Bhartiya Valmiki Sarav Dharam Samaj, complained to the police that August 5 episode of the serial had made derogatory and objectionable references towards Maharishi Valmiki which hurt religious sentiments of the community.
Police officials revealed that they contacted the Zee TV and Ekta Kapoor's team after receiving the complaint on August 6 but they did not care much about the complaint and no steps were taken to resolve the issue as Gill and other members of the community were also contacting the persons related to the production of the serial.
Nakidar DSP H S Parmar revealed that they saw the episode of the serial and there were repeated references to the Mahrishi to which the Valimiki community members were taking umbrage. He confirmed that police tried to resolve the issue by contacting Zee TV and Ekta's associates in the production but there was little response.
Apart from Ekta and her mother Meghna Amal, Sameer Kulkarni, Bhavna Thakkar and actor who made these references have been arranged as accused in the case. Zee TV owner, without naming him, has also been mentioned in the accused list.
