I loved the way ganga turned the money away today from dadisa, even when she thought it was a gift at first (and not the bribe it was meant to be).
I'm wondering what she thought when turning down the gift.
I mean I wouldnt hesitate to turn down the bribe if i knew it was a bribe, I would find it demeaning.
But turning down a gift is not something I would do even in my own financially stable situation.
So I'm puzzled what concept of self respect/value system ganga must be having to turn down the gift in her state of starting a new college and also having manu's responsibility.
Just trying to see if something is missing in me. Thanks for all replies.

She thinks they have given her enough already. She needs DS's blessings not her money. Jagya must have her needs in Mangalore fully taken care of...with his own money. CVs haven't mentioned it but there's no doubt in my mind that's what's going on here.A person like Ganga who is so "khuddaar" must be feeling extremely indebted to the Singhs already for providing a home and safety, on top of that Jagya never misses anything...he has all things covered, he's so thorough in fulfilling his responsibility so I'm sure she has money to spend.

Hi yanks,
even if she has extra money, it still wouldnt hurt to have more, particularly if it is being given as a gift. 😆 That is what i am thinking.

for some people it's very hard to accept gifts...my mom is unable to accept gifts...even if she takes gifts from someone she immediately starts planning what to give that person in return. when ganga has nothing to give in return, she is better off not taking anymore.money will come and go...

I think she turned down coz she loves Jagya and its Jagya's grandmother . She does not see money anywhere in that equation ...neither as a gift of pity or as a loan . The turning down was not as she was too big for her boots but coz she is emotionally involved .

Ganga is a needy persone not laalchi person. What Jagya is doing for her is "help" to make her selfdepenent, he is not giving her mony directly. He is carefull about her selfrespect. May be Ganga earn little mony from hospital. DS chosed a wrong situation to gift her that mony. Plus Ganga is not in that condition to take a big amount as a gift from DS or from anyone.

You are exactly defining my mom here too 👏. Being a daughter too - it is so hard for me to give her something even on her birthday coz I can see how uneasy it makes her. She is happiest giving. She just doesn't accept things easily. And its not coz of the daughter or son thingy, my brothers have an equally hard time with her 😉.

Ganga doesn't take anything she can do without. Here too, she feels she is already indebted and even if she plans to pay off her course fees to Jagya from her salary later on - we have seen, she will always feel indebted for the help they provided and the emotional support and love and acceptance and understanding when she was a nobody with zero possibilities.

Ganga types don't come along very often - she is a very rare and precious person with a very noble soul and very high personal standards.

For all those who have berated her so long for "loving" Jagya - did they notice how easy she was yesterday with his engagement news ? She truely does not see him as someone she can aspire for. She did have a hard time of it on his b'day when Saanchi came into her room and taunted her and the news was so sudden. But she worked on herself and told herself this was ridiculous and she won't let herself feel bad for something good happening with Jagya's life.

But gifts don't hurt self-respect. Gifts are given freely with open heart particularly from old lady. But ganga immediately turned it down. She didn't turn it down after she realized that it was a bribe. She turned it down immediately even before knowing it was a bribe. How will it hurt her self-respect ?
I fully agree with yanks28 that often people feel a sense of strong obligation to repay and so will avoid any gift if they cant repay.
