BV A THESIS SUBJECT FOR SOCIOLOGY

Basically we are all emotional , esp.regarding Anandi>Pratusha. We r emotionally attached to Anandi..>Prats. All ages of people...irrespective of their social strata...all states...countries...continents...unimaginable impact of that character,s portrayal by an young... beautiful girl. We love her, adore her, appreciate her ,started imagining her as an important part of our lives. Till now ... I think .. no other TV serial got such a huge fan following...it is her Right...she should get it for her talent... hard work... infusing life in to that character...new meaning to life...sanskar...what not?...every thing for a classic character. At one time I was unable to accept that it was a mere BV serial,s character...a part of me ... an imp part...a good friend, guide to many ill fated women...a social reformer. We have to learn a lot from HER. Alas...now its a mere shadow of that great character...actress..Till feb end this serial was considered as A THESIS SUBJECT FOR SOCIOLOGY... BY MANY. now it is only a TV serial for time pass. IT IS A HEART FELT FEELING OF MANY PEOPLE ...including me an ordinary person...Sidushian...PRAnandi,s admirer.

The child AVAnandi interviewed the then new PRAnandi ...whom the real Anandi loves most in the serial.? With her 1000 w smile PRAnandi said ANANDI loves everybody ...Dadisa...Ma ...Bapusa...Taisa...Tausa...everybody...in the family... in the village, ofcourse ... Jaggiy most... she said with thoughtful eyes...a spark in them.

Relationship dynamics with Dadisa :

Her relationship with Dadisa is an 'ANOKHA RISTA 'as once described by Sumitra. Dsa tried to control and crush Anandi's desires and aspirations from day one itself in a typical rural Indian family head manner. Every time, in the evolution of their long relationship, in every imp situation , Anandi yielded ...resisted...questioned...and ultimately convinced Dsa and made her realise the dominance of love and understanding, over her autocratic behavior . Her sons and D'in laws never questioned her decisions ...blindly followed her orders..may be ..because of immense respect...love...or fear of conflict. . Once Anandi entered into their household ...many conflicts , rifts , adjustments ... so many family dramas unfolded. Child Anandi, beautifully portrayed by Avika ,who was scared of Dadisa , bore the brunt of her anger...disciplinary actions , punishments, earned a lot of sympathy from viewers and became a darling daughter of every household. She prepared the ground for the future protagonist, and went back to her parents house. Then the adult Anandi -PRAnandi entered into the ' Badi Haveli' with dreams in her eyes desires in her heart,a profoundly tender...passionate affection for Jaggiya. Faced some hindrances from Dadisa ...succesfully paved the way for Jaggiya's further education in Bombay ..then comes Jaggiya's infatuation...growing distance between them...the broken relationship .. and then the complete void !

Meanwhile Anandi's life entered into new vistas...social reforms, Jaitser developmet, questining social evils-----taboos...educating the villagers etc. The reformist in Dadisa realized the real worth of Anandi's selfless social work...started appreciating ...applauding and encouraging her, who later extended full support to all her endeavors wholeheartedly.

Docile... tender, child Anandi was a victim of Dsa's anger, whereas adult Anandi emerged as a strong person with inherent leadership qualities, interacted and sometimes confronted with Dsa, could successfully change her attitude and gave a new world view to her. NOW She has full faith in Anandi...accepted her as a guide and philosopher...a teacher to her...to the entire village.

Dadisa is the first person who understands Anandi's pain and void in her life. After Jagdish deserted Gowri..he wanted to enter into Anandi's life again and pleaded with the family members to allow him to come back . But Dadisa makes it clear to him that some mistakes are unpardonable and says ' Anandi ko baar baar...din me kayi baar marte huve dekha'...how can i forgive you?'[5^th sep 2012 BV episode] She even disowned her Ladisar for the sake of Anandi for her happiness and encouraged and arranged her marriage with Shiv. She treated Anandi like an angel—she even apologized to Anandi for asking her to forget Shiv and to forgive and accept Jaggiya. With great pain and guilt she questioned Anandi ' WHY ARE YOU NOT BLAMING ME?' With complete understanding, Anandi replies '' BECAUSE OF GREAT LOVE AND CONCERN FOR ME YOU CONVINCED ME TO MARRY SHIV. TODAY WITH THE SAME LOVE AND CONCERN FOR JAGGIYA YOU TALKED LIKE THIS. ON BOTH OCCASIONS. THE MAIN REASON IS LOVE; HOW CAN I BLAME YOU FOR YOUR LOVE?''

That is the level of their relationship!. Dadisa was the first person to encourage Anandi for divorce, She was the first person to console her after her divorce which made way for her future. A stubborn person like Dadisa gave Anandi great love and at times adored her like a role model. Anandi served her, followed her orders, won over her with her pure love and affection. Surekhaji played Dadisa's role in a commendable manner with great aplomb. She is a great actress. Even though she got 5-10minutes role in Mr. AND Mrs. AIYER her portrayal was really great. Pratusha Banerjee put her soul in the role of Anandi and we can say she was the real AMULET to this serial.

While watching BV in earlier days I used to wonder ...is it necessary to bear the brunt of Dadisa,s anger and insults for two morsels of food? Can,t they [Bhairov and family ...esp Anandi] move out of the house? Later realised that we can,t distance ourselves from our family Roots so .easly. In such situations one has to adopt, adjust himself for the entire family,s welfare .Here on this point BV people has given us the real picture of joint family system ...flexibility of decision making. Anandi,s passionate love for Jagdish as her Beend , later as a friend made her to question the autocratic decisions of Dadisa...and convinced her successfully to change her ideas--decisions.

In the initial part of the serial once Dadisa dragged child Anandi in to the store room and locked her there for a small mistake [for eating Laddoos!!!]. When Jagdish demanded some part of property to sign on divorce papers--- then Dadisa yielded to his demand and ready to give what ever he wants, for the sake of Anandi,s freedom...from that painful relationship . When ANANDI came to know about this agreement , she confronted with Jagdish...tore the papers and [drag?] take away Dadisa from that place. What a great performance by all actors esp.PRAnandi .Surekhaji ,and Sashank Vyas.[BV 7th&8th May 2012] At that time Anandi declared her decision about her future.. IS RISTE ME AKELAE RAHUNGI...KUCH JINDAGI ME NAHI . AAP SUB LOG MERE SATH HAI NA...MAI AKELE KAISE ?...'' MA SUMITRA AND HER DOTING DAUGHTER ANANDI

The un conditional love she extended to her cute daughter in law, and the way she has taken care of Anandi from the day one , is typified [ personified] by the BV serial as an ideal mother in law on the small screen ever. Every Bahu in Indian house-hold started dreaming of having a MIL like Sumitra. Like a cloud that spreads a cool canopy over a heated path , to make it comfortable for the traveller ...like a fine breeze that gives a lovely swing to a just blossomed beautiful flower...like a mother bird protects its young one from the eagle's evil eyes[Dadisa], Sumitra protected Anandi from every awkward [ dangerous] situation. She extended her full support to her Lado in whatever she did in her life. Anandi continued to have a special bond with her. Sumitra tried her best to save Anandi from the rigmarole of a rural Bahu . She never treated Anandi like her bahu, but as her own daughter Suguna...a beautiful bonding. Though Bhagwati is Anandi's biological mother, immensely attached to her daughter , Anandi considered Sumitra as her Ma because as she is emotionally more connected to her Sasuma.

Anandi got unconditional support from her in laws , except Dadisa, in her fight against the gender-based inequalities of the society . Sumitra is a supportive wife, a passionate mother, and an obedient... docile daughter in law, but whenever the situation demanded she always stood by Anandi. She protected the child Anandi from her Beend's pranks and Dadisa's cruel punishments.

Sumitra helped Anandi in most of her love adventures with Jaggia... his demand for the first kiss...outing with her etc, like a friend. She gave her full support and guidance to Anandi in most of her intimate...confidential issues... which a girl likes to share only with her mother. Her motherly ... heart to heart talk with Anandi while sending her on her honeymoon trip to Mumbai with Jaggia is a guideline to every mother who cares for her daughter.

She disowned her son for his deceit to Anandi . Even though Jaggia helped Anandi and saved her from Heaith Singh's capture, instead of allowing him in to the house , she sends him back from the courtyard itself by simply saying-- Dhanyavad .

A night before her marriage with Shiv, Anandi reviews her past , re- visualises her association with Dadisa , Basanth and Gehna, remembers how Gehna always stood by her side... then she goes to Sumitra and Bhairaov's room , with teary eyes she fondly recollects how they gave her unconditional love, support ... solace when she was in distress, paved the way for her education –freedom from failed marriage and then for her bright future. Then Anandi passes by the sleeping Jaggia's room and recollects her childhood days with him '' NAT KHAT BANDER'' teasing and playing with him -- then the tender and romantic moments with him..at this point she breaks down with all sorts of emotions runs back in to her room with broken heart and falls on her bed like a torn garland and starts crying. In such a situation only a mother can attend and give solace to her doting daughter. That's what Sumitra did for Anandi. She tried to clear Anandi's doubts...about new association ... new surroundings... adjustments ...relationship with her spouse etc. Here Sumitra's well defined role as a mother to guide her daughter - is worth watching...Smitha Bansal acted very well , and of course Pratyusha as Anandi...she is the epitome of elegance and action. This episode is considered as one of the best SENTIMENTAL AND SENSITIVE SCENES of this serial. [ BV----6^th Dec 2012] After marriage, whenever she was in dilemma she tried to contact her Ma and sought her advise . Anandi wanted to clear her doubts before entering in to an intimate relationship with Shiv. That's the level of relationship Anandi shared with Sumitra ...like a friend, confidant and a sympathetic lap to get solace. She carried her mother in her tears, in her dreams...in all her pursuits.

WE CAN DIG A WELL..A POND ...A RIVER... BUT WE CANNOT DIG AN OCEAN...WITH SO MANY PRECIOUS STONES...FULL OF LIFE...ESSENTIAL FOR THE EXISTENCE OF THE EARTH. SIMILARLY, WE CANNOT DEFINE A MOTHER.
