Next day

It was the dawn of a day before the marriage of her daughter. Everything seems to be in still. The grandeur decorations set up in their house for the next day seems to be incomplete in their appearance. An ambience of a wedding household apparently depicts an eerie silence conjoined by the momentary chirping of birds. Garima dragged herself towards Khushi' room with a heavy heart. She hadnt met Khushi after yesterday's incident, infact she was afraid to meet her daughter's eyes which would make her go weak. As a mother she ought to have supported Khushi by her side, the presence of her friends wouldn't be good enough as hers. Her assumption proved wrong when she saw her daughter literally cutting her ties with her blood brother. Garima had assumed Khushi to go weak and disbelieve Arnav. She shrudded at her daughter's fight back for her love against her own brother. Torn between the two children she felt herself timid to argue for the one she cared for. Circumstances leading to snide remarks by the neighbours and her relatives on her son cheating on a girl, on her to be son in law who is cheating her daughter with having relationships far off. It would have been the worst night she had ever experienced in her life not able to perceive what her husband was going through after he had closed himself in the confines of the room trying to guage his decision which had all the lives depended on.

Garima opened the room scanned the whole area to find the supposed to be bride kneeling down near her cot resting her head on it. The sight was horrendous. Her butterfly had to be flying with joy and excitement at this day but as luck would have it her happines was swiped away in a moment. Can that smile be brought back on her lips lighting the face of her angel she thought. She sighed for a moment to brush off the thoughts and moved forwarded to move back the small strands of hair obstructing the view of her daughter's face. A small touch of her mother would have woken up the energy in Khushi but on the contrary Khushi even couldn't realise the presence of her mother who had already moved her head from the cot to her lap. A small smile played at Garima's lips reminiscing her daughter's childhood antics. When she was 8, a small play had been staged in her school for the annual day function where princess role was portrayed by Khushi. Khushi had run into her arms huugging her tightly with her best actress prize on her hand over excitement infusing in her.

"Khushi bitiya.. Im very proud of you..You look so cute like a princess".

" Ma' Shall I ask you something?" Khushi said with a pout..

"Hmm.. yes.. what do you want? Your favourite jalebis for winning the competition?"

" No Amma..I want my a beautiful looking Prince" Khushi replied with an irreplacable glee excited of getting her wish satisfied by her mother.

Garima smiled through her tears caressing Khushi's face which made her fling a little from her deep slumber. Khushi shocked to find herself on her mother's lap rubbed her eyes and sat beside her mother when she saw Garima's tears.

Khushi : Amma.. are you ok? Why are you crying? She asked with widening eyes.

Garima couldn't hold back for long. The emotions she had suppressed within herself let out in a go hugging Khushi tightly and sobbing on her shoulders. Khushi could understand her mother's plight. Any one in her situation would be vulnerable seeing her daughter's marriage hanging around especially with their family affair going public.

Khushi breaking her hug with Garima, wiped her tears.

Khushi : Amma.. please compose yourself. I know its difficult to control our emotions but nothing has gone beyond our hands..I still have hopes. I do believe in Devimayya and of course my Arnavji.. Im sure he would never be able to cheat me or his family anytime. Especially for a person who had suffered so much in childhood. Amma.. I respect him Amma, I am sure this was some misunderstanding happening in between. Khushi spoke with a resolve.

Garima was appalled at the confidence of this girl. She tried to comprehend the lines looking at the eyes of Khushi which still had a dip in confidence which was there in her words.

Garima : Tell me whats bothering you then? Garima questioned her.

Khushi slipped away from her hold and moved towards the window looking at the bright sun rays penetrating through. She closed her eyes looking at the far off street where the people had started to walk through it early in the morning.

Khushi: Lavanya.. I somehow feel I shouldn't be doing fair if I marry Arnavji after knowing Lavanya was cheated by my brother. I can't be staying happily with the guilt that would hit me whenever I see Lavanya around in that house. It would be like an unerasable black mark Amma.. Khushi's eyes began to moist with a guilt clouding her throat.

Garima: Bitiya I understand the meaning of what you are thinking. But you cant be ignoring your life for others. You are hurting yourself and Arnav bitwa in the process. I agree what NK did was wrong. I do feel bad for that girl Lavanya.. I cant forgive him anytime for cheating her but as a mother I cant hate my own son too. Im caught in the middle of my affection and responsibility. I had thought of this yesterday but I don't know whether this would be repentance from our end on behalf of what my son had done for that girl. Garima's voice began to slow down as she said this.

Khushi turned to look at her with confusing eyes on what idea her mother had on this issue.

Garima: Khushi bitiya.. I feel this would be a best solution to solve this knot. Either way this had proved to be a bigger tug in everyone's mind. I guess we should ask for Lavanya's hand for NK's marriage which would do good for Lavanya as well as for you. Garima's voice trailed at the end.

Khushi snapped out from her looks with utmost anger.

Khushi: Amma.. What kind of a solution was that? You mean getting married would solve everything? Lavanya had suffered a lot because of your son though he justifies it with the story of a one side love affair the adverse effects of which even Lavanya wasn't aware of. Don't try to argue for your son amma. Who is he to punish for her greed? Whatever u can come up with slightly in favour of him I cant forgive him first.. you are talking about commiting another mistake of getting them married? How can that be a solution?

Khushi's raging eyes torn Garima into pieces with the question.She could measure the anger of her daughter brewing up for coming up with such a solution.

Do you think Lavanya would ever be able to forgive him and forget all those incidents which happened with her friend? By erasing off those scenes from her life, do you want her to start a life with the same man who was the sole reason for such a misery? If NK hadnt ran away from his mistakes and apologised to Lavanya I would have said there would be a chance but what did he do now? He blamed her brother in public without looking into the proper way of judging a person pulling out his past with the girl whom he had crushed blaming her for a revenge from her part? How callous was that?

Khushi composed herself a little and turned her back towards her mother.

Lavanya can never love him back the way she had loved him. If he lacked the courage to face her and run away from the truth what assurance do u have in your son after he marries Lavanya? Can you be so sure that Lavanya wont be facing the same situation again by your irresponsible son ? And I would be the last person to agree for that proposal. I would never compromise her life for my own happiness. If it is a case of abandoning this marriage I wouldn't hesitate to proceed.

Khushi said those words with a pang in her heart not able to deviate herself a bit from the innate characteristic in her.She turned towards her amma who had bend down her head in remorse for such a thought. Khushi walked towards her holding her hand near her cheeks consoling her with her teary eyes making her point clear again.

Its not about my selflessness Amma.. Im being empathical on Lavanya.. She is also a girl like me who have dreams and wishes. This idea can neither bring the happiness nor be a redemption from his part.

Garima : Do you remember I used to express my happiness whenever I say Im proud of you? Now again you have proved that I should always be proud of my daughter having such understanding and maturity par from her age. Garima stated with pride.

Buaji came rushing inside the room pausing the mother daughter conversation. Her eyebrows scrunched with worry which was noticed by Khushi. Buaji's face soon reflected the nervousness.

Khushi clutched her hands trying to ease out her nervousness : Why are you so tensed Buaji ?

Buaji held her hands in support and looked at her intensely: I cant see Sashi babua anywhere. He is not in his room. I searched the entire house and he is not even in our shop. I m actually a bit tensed..

Khushi and Garima got the share of her tension and started to get anxious. Garima got hold of Buaji and rushed outside the room to call for NK. Khushi meanwhile took her mobile and tried to call Sashi's mobile. It was unattended and to top it all the mobile tone was heard inside the house which had clearly suggested that he had left it at home. Where would he leave without informing anyone that too early in the morning raised doubts in everyone.

Arnav had been sleeping on the balcony after Anjali had left him last night. She had to forcefully have his food which Akash and Payal had brought for him. After much persistence Anjali allowed him to give him some space and left him alone to sleep in the balcony. The sun rays awakening the eye lids from his tiring sleep,he had hardly slept for four hours after sitting throught the entire night thinking about Khushi..she was Like a precious pearl he cant afford to lose from his life.

Nani had been sitting on his side not trying to wake him up. She was waiting for him to wake up on his own. When she saw stirring in his sleep trying to catch up sleep again with so much trouble, she felt the pain in her eyes of pondering on the uneventful incidents which had affected her little grandson. She sighed and smiled thinking of the sweet family moments which she had seen her chotte making his family lively everytime.

Realising Nani's presence Arnav stood up instantly moving towards her in a giffy. He was concerned about Nani as to why she would stand staring at him for a long time. Nani's face was imaging some confidence and brightness unlike yesterday. She smiled at him while he was still rubbing his eyes to clear his vision standing infront of her.

Nani : Chote.. Go and freshen up... I want you to accompany me to a place. Nani told him in a soft tone creating no impression of what she was upto ?

Arnav scrunched his eyebrown in confusion : Nani.. but where? Is that a visit to Khushi's house?

Nani chuckled which amazed Arnav at the sudden reaction.

Arnav : Nani whats there to smile about? Are you going to give your decision to Khushi's father about marriage? He had requested for time till today.but why? Arnav's voice turned to an supporting tone for Sashi while Nani interrupted him.

Nani : Chote. I told u to accompany me thats all. How could you come up with your own assumptions before I even think of something? Nani drew a sarcastic note to lighten his mood.

Arnav sighed in defeat as he knew he cant win over his nani. He smiled and hugged her all of a sudden. Nani hugged him back caressing his shoulders and his head.

Arnav : Nani.. I want you to feed me breakfast like what you used to do earlier during my school days.

Nani got stunned and broke their hug. She scanned his face to find out the reason for a sudden request.

Arnav : Nothing Nani.. I feel like missing Ma so much. So if you dont mind..

Nani: Of course chote.. Who would I feed breakfast other than you? Go and freshen up.. Nani terminated the dialog by sending Arnav down as she knew had the conversation continued it would have led to many emotions outpour. She prayed to Devimayya again and again to clear the mess around her grandson's life and return back the real smile in him which had vanished the day before.

As he came down after getting dressed up in search of nani to have his breakfast, he was stunned to find a group of people crowding on his hall. Quite shocking to find everyone at the dawn he moved in closer to find the occupants of the couch in his hall. The sight was quite astonishing than the former. Sashi Gupta with his relatives and most importantly NK had occupied the seats infront of his family.An air of awkwardness pervading through the enitre ambience maintaining the silence and peace. His entry was watched out by every single person in the hall who had ackonwledged to come in the middle facing the crowd.

Sashi stood up from his seat and looked at Arnav. He was meeting directly into Arnav's eyes for the first time after the accusation was hurled against him. Arnav was trying to guage the length of his expression. His curiosity on Sashi's take on his marriage made his heart thumping harder. He felt like his heart was on his mouth not able to identify the final decision by the elders of both the house holds. Sashi's eyes met his with a tormented guilt and apology which shocked Arnav at first. Even though Arnav was trying to get the real answer from his face he did notice Sashi's distress. A father in his place had done what is good for his child but now his life is depending too on the father's decision.

Sashi : Arnav bitwa.. We were waiting for you to disclose the reason of our visit here. Sashi said with clarity so as to make the whole crowd listen to his words with their attention.

Sashi glanced at his back towards NK who came forward towards Arnav. Arnav could feel the fury in Akash and Abhay's face when NK had neared him. He was taking control of himself not to get carried away by the anger at this moment.

NK folded his hands with his head bent down not able to face Arnav. He looked around the people giving a note of apology which confused all of them.

NK: I apologize to all of you for creating a ruckus yesterday. I shouldnt have discussed such matters in public which I did realising without anyone's trauma affecting the family.

NK moved his eyes gathering courage to look at Arnav finally.

I am terribly sorry for accusing you yesterday unnecessarily. It was actually a mistake from my friend's part. He had a slight doubt about your identity which misled to enquire about some one else at your place. It was just as a result of suspicion he had informed me but yesterday I was trying to prove it right when I got the opportunity to cancel this marriage. I didnt want this marriage to happen at the beginning as I had known about Lavanya being your sister.Things went out of my hand when both the families had developed such love and most importantly when I saw my sister happy with your proposal. I wished good for my sister and thought it would be good to stay away from you all that won't affect my sister's marriage. But as soon as I heard suspicions about you having affairs I jumped into conclusions without getting proper information and trusting the source which had provided this information.I made it clear in myself to prove this suspicion right which a clearly easy escape mechanism.

Abhay turned his eyes with a huge shock towards Sashi who inturn assured him with his eyes that things are under his control. The whole family stood shock at the relevation which came unexpected as they knew Abhay was the one who had relationships. Their relatives were still unaware on that piece of information including Abhay's family. Arnav stood speechless with a jaw drop on NK blaming himself entirely for the incident. No one dared to open their mouth.

Sashi : Bitwa.. This was all my son's fault. I sincerly apologise to you and your family , relatives on his behalf for maligning your name in public. Sashi pleaded him.

NK : I have committed an unforgivable sin. I have to be punished severly but please dont punish my sister because of my fault. She had been unaware of what had happened because of me. I beg you all to accept my sister please..

NK folded his hands tight infront of Arnav making a plead. Arnav held his hands to console him but was stopped by mamiji's words.

Mami : wah.. what a drama? The entire mistake was on your side Sashiji. Your son cheated my daughter, he blamed my Arnav bitwa publically and now comes and requests to accept his sister considering as if nothing had happened? Leave him.. what about you? You didnt trust your would be son in law and had asked us for time without giving a chance for our bitwa to react? You purposefully insulted us infront of all these people to go back home till you find a way? Now we should forget everything and accept your child when you found our Arnav bitwa was flawless?

Sashi : No Manoramaji.. I am sorry for what had happned because of him. It was all our mistake.. A mistake of not bringing up my son in a proper way. I repent for that exteremely. He stared at NK who didnt have the courage to meet his face. Yesterday it was like a thunder hitting my head on the day of my daughter's mehndi that revealed suspicions about my son in law who is more or less like my son. Above all the new phase of my son who had cheated your daughter came into light which shook myself from reality. The sudden relevation out in public made me go weak.Things would have settled more amicably if it hadnt gone outside the family. I had trust in Arnav bitwa that he would never indulge in such relationships. Just like your family who had intense trust and love on him I too considered him the same. If Arnav bitwa hadnt hesitated for a second to reply on NK's questions I wouldnt have taken such a decision to cut the talks then and there.

Arnav felt a bit pulled back for his act which had demeaned his father in law's trust on him.

I am also a human , a father of a grown up daughter, more vulnerable to everyone's emotions.. I had prayed that Arnav bitwa never accepted such accusations be it true or for any other reasons. If I had let it continued there it would have led to shattering of relationships, breakdown of many tender hearts on the above my child's life. I dont justify myself saying what I did was right but being a person drived by family morals and values I felt it would be right to give time and clear out than taking decisions in haste be it for or against Arnav bitwa. After I had given time for myself dwelling on my daughter's future, many truths revealed at a point one after the other clearing the mess.

Sashi looked at Abhay who had been keenly interested in his talks about the decision.

Truth that my son was behind all this, truth that there was a misunderstanding taken place blaming Arnav bitwa, truth that another daughter of my age was affected by my son's actions, truth that I was being wrong in getting an skeptical view without depending on my trust for my son in law and the ultimate truth that I heard from my daughter that she is not at all shaken by any other force to lose trust on her love, she herself confessed that she would be the last person who could be forced to believe about relationships Arnav bitwa had previously. She wasnt shaken a bit like me. I was a bit apprehensive on her reactions as to how she also would get suspicious about Arnav's character. She amazed me to the core with her retort to her brother. Her words still rings my ears on how she trusts her would be husband and her love.. what more a father needs than his daughter's confidence?

It would be an understatment to see the whole family smiling in excitement and joy when they heard about Khushi's take on the whole issue. The reaction was worth watching on Arnav's face when he was trying to juggle with the overpowering mixture of emotions in him. Happiness on the top of the world for her trust, sadness not able to even match up to her level of love, curiosity of having missed such a great dialog from her, Pride of his love, Jealousy of having his father understanding her more than him.He didnt know when happy tears flowed near the brim. He didnt let out any of them..

Sashi held his hand as an act of forgiveness to a much younger person than him though he would have bend to ask apology.

Sashi : I dont have more words to apologize for my son. I too find a fault in believing those accusations for a micro second too. I would request you to consider only my daughter here in this situation.

He turned towards Naniji and with due respect he asked her

Sashi : Devayaniji, would you accept my daughter forgiving all of us?Sashi's anticipation grew with the proceeding moments of silence.

Naniji looked at her family who was waiting for reply. She finally rested her eyes at her Chotte whose eyes lit with unbound happiness. That was all she wanted to see. The rest doesnt stand a chance near by her decisions.

Nani : Arnav bitwa has to decide this. Since I know about his decision , Sashiji when are you planning to conduct the Haldi? We are running out of time..

The family broke into petals of laughter creating a wave of happiness back into action in the house. Sashi moved into tears holding his hands infront of Naniji which Mamaji came and stopped.

Mamaji : Enough Sashiiji. We are going to be relatives.. Now enough of crying and pleading.

Sashi : Before anything I would like to apologise to another important person.. Your daughter. She deserves the right to accept our family or not.

Lavanya who was standing beside Arnav hugging his back as soon as she got excited with Nani's approval came out from the hide to face Sashi bowing her head.

Lavanya : Uncle.. I dont deserve anything.. Past is past.. I dont like to live and rot in past. She glared at NK the one look which teared him into pieces.

Uncle..Im just happy for my bhai and bhabhi's life. I would be the first person who would share their happiness. Please dont bother about me anymore. I dont have qualms on anyone.

Sashi was surprised to see the maturity in the girl who had almost the same age of his daughter. He smiled at her and blessed her by keeping his palm on her head. She bend down to take his blessings which overwhelmed him. Arnav who was watching this scene was much relieved as Anjali came in to hug him releasing the much deposited feelings letting out in one go.. There is no turning back from now on.. Its happiness in her little brother's life she thought. Arnav stood there in his sister's arms till his friends and Shyam and Akash came behind him to congratulate him.

Abhay found out Sashi standing alone after NK had left the house with the guilt strikken face. The relatives had dispersed and started to proceed for further preparations.

Abhay : Uncle.. whats happening? I dont believe this.. Why did NK lie?

Sashi : Beta.. after you came to me yesterday at my shop revealing your past relationships and the way how Arnav bitwa was mis understood by NK's friend, I had made up my mind to talk to my daughter about her opinion.. thats when I heard my daughter talking to Swetha.. To be really surprised would be less, she was stopping Swetha from revealing all these in public as it would affect yours and Swetha's life too. The selflessness my daughter had did poke my selfish nature. I decided not to take up your name in between this as it would be a mess in your family too. Let it remain buried inisde our hearts as Lavanya said Past is past. Its better to move on with the time.

Abhay : How come NK confessed like this?

Sashi : His remorse, the pain of getting a reality check from his own sister, a punishment he deserved from her. The guilt of cheating a girl for his selfish reasons, a stupidity creating a meance for a marriage.. He came to me at night repenting for his actions. I gave him this solution for repentance. If he was the one to start then he should be the one to end it. For the public eyes let my son remain as the main culprit which I think is a deserving punishment.

Arnav who was hearing the conversation with Abhay was overwhelmed at his family and Khushi's family.. All the more his heart started to beat frantically to meet the other part of the heart. Sashi saw his face and hugged him proudly. Words ceasing to come out of the mouth. Abhay saw his friend melting into his father in law's arms just like he had found out his father back.

Sashi : Arnav bitwa, I havent told Khushi about this. Infact I wasnt sure if you all would accept us back. Now I want you to tell her this news.

Arnav nodded and didnt wait for a second turning on his heels he rushed to his room confusing the family and Sashi.

Khushi was pacing inside her room worried about not able to reach her father. She tried many of his friends who hadnt answered the calls thats when he she got informed about their relatives had accompanied with him to go somewhere. She had a mild doubt but all her doubts vanished when she heard the brake sound of the vehicles outside her house. She was trying to run outside her room to see if her father had reached but she stumbled when her leg hit the table making her wince in pain.She straightened up herself and was about to move forward when her eyes fell on the person standing on the door watching her. Her Arnavji dressed in the same white kurta which she had stiched for herself and sent through Abhay as a gift.. He had millions of emotions flooding in his face which confused Khushi more. Before Khushi could open her mouth Arnav rushed in to take her in arms. He hugged her posessively as if there was no tomorrow. Khushi was shocked at his sudden action but she didnt fail to reciprocate his hug. That hug which shared the passion, intensity and all their desires clubbed in one. They stood in their arms in peace for a longer time not wishing to part.
