MILAN- The Final Destination
PART- 118
Coming in front of him she wanted to hold his face but thought better of it, taking her hands back from mid air. Her hands were dirty. But her simple retreat hurt him more than she could ever imagine. Maine kuch nai kia Maan. Mai' mai maanti hu maine galti ki jab mai aapko chodke gai'
Aur yeh tum aaj kyu keh rai ho. Tumhe hamesha lagta tha na ke mai Shreya se pyaar karta hu. You thought I was going to marry her. Even after our marriage you thought that I had married her out of my own wish. You never believed me. Why you think differently now? Is it because you saw this room? Kya issi wajah se tum mere paas aayi, ke iss bechare ko bhi mai kuch de du taki isse bura na lage. Is that why you slept with me? Out of pity?
She shook her head frantically, speechless that he could think like that. She would pity him? A rubbish, useless person could never pity someone else. Maan held her shoulder. I don't want your body Geet. I want the whole of you. I want the love you have for that man. I don't want to be second in your life. Tears ran down his cheeks n she felt like being sliced in two parts seeing him so broken. I want to be the first, like you are for me.
Maan you are fir...st.
No I am not. He shook her hard, ready to go insane like her. I am not the first, would never be. Because you love that bas***d, because you were already married to him before our wedding. He clutched a hand full of her hairs bringing her face closer. Didn't he filled your mang first, didn't he loved this body of yours first. Tell me when did you go to him? Were I was in office when you made an appointment or it was when I had gone out for tour? Was I good like him or was he better? He jerked her away n it was getting unbearable for her to take the disgust in his voice. She was crying hard but he couldn't see neither could hear clearly. His mind was jammed with pain, the voices of strong, deadly emotions together taunting him. Jawab do mujhe Geet, jawab do. Was that bas***d good-
Don't call him that.
It hurt her so much. A knife pushed n twisted severely to fatality. He was accusing her for betrayal. Only she knew what she had endured to save that only thing. What she had gone through, even now the dreams plagued her n shivers crept under her skin when she thought about those days. He didn't know but she had felt it. He had given her the strength. When she had given up all hope n was ready to drown in darkness it wasn't the desire to rescue herself that her prompted her to take that risk but the fact that she was his n would always be the same.
She had taken that step without any possible way, no open door, no hope...only because she couldn't even think about being a property of some man even if it cost her life. All the abuse was acceptable, the curses, the accusations... crumbled present n rotten future, yet that one right on her body was his n only his n she had fought for it without any power in her. There was no dignity left, no honor but somehow at the last moment she had rescued that last thread of her innocence.
But what was the use of all that when still he was in pain. He thought she was unfaithful to him, that his Geet slept with another man. The thought disgusted her though she didn't blame him. He had loved her yet trust came in return for trust. How could she expect it when she didn't give him the same? But, that didn't make it any better. She hated him at the same time for thinking like that n even more so for hurting himself. She was miserable, broken...nearly dead but she wouldn't let him suffer any more. And she wouldn't ever hear anything against the man that resided in her heart, her Maan. He himself didn't have the right to do so.
What- Her small voice was strangely firm and Maan couldn't believe she was defending that man. Who had possibly hurt her n was using her.
After listening from doctor that she was pregnant when he had left she thought he would never come back; she was wrong. He came back. He had given her a chance something she didn't do six years ago. She wouldn't lose this one chance. Geet raised her head; face streaked with tears n blotches of blood but her words were determined. Don't call him that. Suna aapne? Marching forward she held his collar in her small fists. Because he is not what you are making him. He is the best man I have ever known. No one's like him. And he loves me so much. Mujhe toh pata bhi nai tha pyaar kya hota hai, usne mujhe sikhaya. Deewano ki tarah pyaar kia mujhse, itna ke koi kisi aur se nai kar sakta. Unhone kabhi kuch nai chaha... sirf diya.
Maan turned his face away from her. The adoration, the love on her face, and the proud in her voice... how could he bear that? Toh kya hua? Maine bhi bahut pyaar kia, certainly more than that man or any other for that matter. But she never noticed it. He thought sullenly with a mocking smile. Totally shattered n drained now with her heated confession for someone else. Finally her acceptance pushed him completely into gloom. He wanted the ground to swallow him n end his existence. Mujhe kuch nai sunna.
Nai aapko sunna padega. Haan he filled my mang first. And made love to me to first. I am proud of it. He has right on all my firsts n everything that comes later. Mai sirf unki hu. Mera tan, man' yeh dil sab unka hai. Samjhe aap. Aur aapke liye behtar hoga ki aap yeh jaan le. Because you can never run away from it. Because that man is you, you idiot. She hit his chest will all her measly might.
Maan looked at her not believing her words. It wasn't possible. She was making a fool of him again or maybe he heard wrong. Aisa kya dekh rahe hai mujhe? Appko lagte hai ki aapki Geet aapke alawa kisi aur ke saath- chee... She made a yuck-appalled face. Mai sirf aur sirf aapki hu, hamesha se thi. Maan saw the pain on her face with tears of delight in her eyes, the relief of finally letting it all out, shedding the burden. Aapne itna pyaar kia k mai chahu bhi toh kisi aur ki nai ho sakti. This all wouldn't have happened if not for your weird habit of drinking n forgetting. Maan cocked his head in utter confusion n she cupped his face.
You are mine n I know how to claim you.
These were the words you spoke before rubbing your blood on my forehead that night after the club incident. You were drunk n furious that I didn't believe you and left. That I believed you kissed Kiya.
Bells ringed inside his head but everything was still hazy n muddled. He tried to grab that memory, it was there, but faded before he could get his hands on it. Although he couldn't draw the complete picture his soul screamed that she was saying the truth.
I love him n... you know I am married to him.
A surge of unexpected elation consumed all his pain n sorrows in a split second. When Geet had said that to Meera, she was talking about...
I can never forget him even if he did long back.
Yes, she was talking about me. Did that mean... that she... Oh god!!
Geet knew he was having his moment of realization n as emotions played on his face she felt her heart swell with his happiness; she shifted closer to feel it more, to share his joy. She was so tired n overburdened of pain n grief n regrets.
Staring in her eyes Maan wondered what a big lunatic he was, burning himself and pushing her away thinking that she was married to another man. He smiled; he couldn't keep himself far from her for long though. And good lord! He had filled her mang long back even before he had to sit in that marriage with Shreya. Technically he had already made Geet his then the marriage was with Shreya wasn't real. Another reason to support what he always knew and it was great relief to him. Geet was his.
His wife since past six years and even the distance of seven seas couldn't change the fact. She was his n she remained his. His Geet treasured his claim on her. A frown came on his face. And this child?
Is yours, who else?
How... I mean... The stable night. Maan held his head, there was nothing else than a dull ache. I... don't remember it.
The incredulity, confusion and sting of missing such an important memory pinched him. He had felt her the morning after, he knew she was there but couldn't remember how n when they got there. Also there was no evidence of her being there. It felt like a hole inside him that could never be filled n he was scared he would have to exist like this, incomplete. I don't remember. He whispered again to no one but himself. I will remind you. There was strange kind of determination on her face, a kind of madness that bowled him. He had become all too familiar to this madness n as she pulled him towards the bed, he let her take control but then his eyes moved to her bloodied hands. The uneven, small slits were no more bleeding but obviously needed dressing. Your hand needs dressing. He said absently. Later.
There was no time to waste. She was in desperate need to erase all his doubts. Her wounds didn't matter only his hurt did. Heat crept up her neck painting her cheeks in red hue while she opened his shirt button. She pushed it off him n he just looked into her eyes searching heaven knows what.
Will you give me this one night? She repeated from that night in stable n his eyes widened, the stable flashing in his mind, the rain, her face. You had said yes. Her was voice was soft n loving as she continued to enlighten him. You had carried me to the end of the stable n laid me on the hay. The small palm on his chest pushed him back on the bed. And it was darker there. She switched off the only lamp that burned the room with light. Now only a little natural light filtering from the windows illuminated the surrounding. Her lips landed on his chest n Maan was overcome by a familiar heat in his body. We were both wet. I remember how warm you were. When you lips touched mine I had melted in your arms. There was no one else, could never be. It was just you Maan. And me.
