A ride aboard the Chennai Express just got a lot more expensive. Tickets to the Shah Rukh Khan,Deepika Padukone starrer will now cost upto 40 per cent more, thanks to a decision taken by the multiplexes yesterday morning.

The raise, which will see an unprecedented 40 per cent increase in ticket prices during the weekday shows and up to a 20 per cent hike over the weekend, will not be uniform across all multiplexes. Increasing ticket prices around festivals is not unusual but the Rohit Shetty film takes the cake with its unprecedented pricetag and a ticket in Juhu PVR will cost the patrons close to Rs 500.

While Fun Cinema will raise the weekday tickets prices by 40 per cent, PVR and Cinemax tickets will cost 25 per cent more throughout the week.

When contacted, Anand Vishal, Head of Operations, Fun Cinemas told Mirror, "The jump in weekday ticket prices is largely due to the fact that currently they are sold at a lower price. Eid has been traditionally good for business and during the Eid week, we expect to sell more tickets than we do in a full month otherwise. A Shah Rukh Khan film is coming after nine months and history shows that Rohit Shetty's films have not gone wrong at the box office."

Another major chain Inox had decided on a hike but had not fixed the price at the time of going to press. The hike has drawn extreme reactions from the public. Aditya Sampat, 27, an interior designer from Mumbai, feels that the move is "uncalled for" and the development has put him off the film. But the rates have not deterred others, like Taranpreet Kaur, an audit firm consultant in her mid 20's from Delhi. "I will not miss the movie for anything," said Kaur and her enthusiasm was backed by Piyush Kumar, a young engineer from Chennai who believes that the audiences will not shy away because of the new rates.

But all is not bad news for SRK fans waiting for the film as most single screens, including popular theatres like Gaiety, Galaxy and Chandan, have decided to buck the pricey trend.

40% for WEEKDAYS ???? F U K N G - INSANE this is... 20-25% On Weekend...

Now CE Should make 100 cr in 3 days & 140 cr in 1 week atleast... Ab bhi opening 3 records na bane - Opening Day, Opening Weekend, Opening Week - for a HOLIDAY Release... it will be big disappointment...

Aur Agar audience ko film na pasand aayi just like last 3 SRK Films...

Audience na aayegi for SRK Film DOBAARA 😆

This Question should not be asked when a film stars SRK, abhi uska itna bura time nahi aaya... Only difference it will make as audience won't go "DOBAARA" to see this movie due to this high price, while 1st time toh sabhi dekhenge at any cost.

Very few films in past has ticket price raise, generally WEEKENDS have little bit raise, this time SRK is desperate to get some Records to level with Salman's Records. So this much raise, surprise to see despite Srk's last 3 films not performing well, Plexes have gone ahead with this HUGE Raise.

Also this kind of raise if 1st time, even BO Current Fav. Salman's film wouldn't be raised to this much high level to gain some extra money... here it seems SRK just want to make RECORDS, less considering about the ticket paying audience.

If Audience loves a film, Ticket raise is justified, but coming from a SuperStar whose last 3 films are just (S)HIT, this is insane.

So if CE makes 140 Cr, in reality its only made a 100.

This is why some analysts have been calling YJHD a bigger hit than ETT. YJHD had normal ticket rates, while ETT had inflated, yet the final gross was about the same.

YJHD has Inflated rates as well just like ETT, higher Weekend rates... plus ETT was having First 5 days as Ramdan period with no Muslim Audience, still it is BIGGER hit than YJHD.

With crap illusion they are simply looting money. Infact these so called star producer etc. are happy that their fans will fork out a good amount of money from their pocket so that they will shout on their 100 200 300 crore collection tag.

Increasing ticket price is festival gift to fans, which happen every year🤢

Multiplexes to hike ticket prices for Ek Tha Tiger

(Salman Khan in Ek Tha Tiger…)

Websites had started pre-booking shows a month before Salman Khan's much-awaited Eid release Ek Tha Tiger was scheduled to hit the theatres on August 15. And now, TOI has learnt that most multiplexes have decided to hike the ticket prices by as much as 12-16 percent.

Pricing tickets higher for certain films or during special occasions like Diwali and New Year is not uncommon. In fact, earlier Salman releases Readyand Bodyguard had been priced higher than regular rates. However, a 12-16 percent hike is unprecedented.

  • UK Care Home Investment8% NET Returns p.a. for 10 years. 21% BMV, Income paid to you monthlywww.experience-investments.co.uk/
  • Instantly stream 100s of movies on NOW TV, Powered by Sky. Try it now!

Explaining the hike, an insider said, "Most multiplexes rolled back the ticket prices (ref. Mirror, May 3, 2012) a few months ago. So, a 12-16 percent hike will come out to be about Rs 20. Which is fair. After all it is the festive season. People are willing to shell out extra money for a Salman film especially during Eid. The multiplexes have taken this decision after a lot of research."

Confirming the development, Anand Vishal, Head of Operations, Fun Cinemas told us, "Nationally, the price will rise by about Rs 20 per ticket. After all it is a premium product. This kind of thing is done during festive seasons. And today Salman films demand higher premium than before."

The price hike will however, not be the same in every theatre. Areas where there is more than one multiplex, will see a 12 percent hike in ticket price. While areas, with fewer theatre options will see as much as a 16 percent rise. And this will apply to all major cities in the country.

Harshavardhan Gangurde, Vice President (Marketing), Inox Cinemas said, "We haven't decided the exact amount by which we shall raise the ticket price. But we will soon. Ek Tha Tiger is a blockbuster."

And his thoughts are reiterated by several other theatre owners who have allocated as much as 95% of the shows for the YRF film. Vishal confirmed that as far as Fun Cinemas is concerned, "At least 90 percent of the shows have been allocated to Ek Tha Tiger."

However, most single screens have decided to maintain the ticket prices. Like, for one, Manoj Desai, owner of Gaiety-Galaxy, told us, "I have never hiked ticket prices. I am not doing it forEk Tha Tiger either. But I must tell you, I have full confidence in this film."
