Kavya had been standing in the middle of the road. He whirled around to face Anjali his shock evident and approached her gingerly. Anjali and Kavya were completely drenched, Anjali's clothes hugging every curve of her body, making her feel more exposed and venerable than ever. A million thoughts flashed through her mind all at the same time.
What is he thinking right now?
Does he love me?
Will he ever be able to love me?
What will I do if he rejects me?
She took a step backwards, unable to look into his eyes for fear of scorn and rejection. She could not phantom what would happen to her if Kavya did not return her emotion for although her love was strong enough to overcome any obstacle thrown in her way, to shield Kavya from every evil, however it could not withstand the vigor of his rejection. She felt her eyes been drawn towards his, against her will, and what she saw in them brought forth more tears, releasing a torrent of emotions which she had been holding back.
He had nothing but love in his eyes, the sheer force of the emotion left her breathless, for she had never seen such raw emotion. Kavya hugged her tight against him, murmuring her name over and over again. For Anjali this was a dream and if it was, she never wanted to wakeup for fear of losing the most perfect vision which she had never even envisaged. They broke apart, however there was still something holding her back. He had still not said the 3 magical words. She was eagerly waiting for him to tell her that he loved her and all of a sudden she grew apprehensive. He was drunk. What if he did not really love her? This thought was killing her and she squeezed her eyes shut to hide the pain and sorrow in them.
Although Kavya was drunk, he was still in his senses and could very well imagine what was going on in her mind. He had seen the pain and doubt in her eyes and wanted to comfort her, reach out to her in some way that assured her that all this was reality.
He slowly extended his hand and put it on her waist, drawing her into a warm cocoon and protection of his arms. he embraced her tightly and said,
Kavya: I love you!
Anjali: WHAT???
Kavya: I LOVE YOU!!!!!
Anjali: But what about Kripa…… I mean you love her….she was silenced by Kavya who placed his finger on her lips.
Kavya: Kripa called me shortly before you reached here. She told me everything about you liking me and I was estatic. Here I am supposed to be heartbroken over the fact that Kripa is getting married but I realized that i was happy to know that you loved me. I realized that there was something wrong with the way I was thinking and I found myself recalling every stupid fight we've had, every single moment of the time we have spent to gether.
I love you Anjali. I realized that but like always I am a bit slow at everything including sorting out my feelings. So please forgive this idiot and accept my love. however i myself wanted to see if you really loved me.
Anjali: hmmm…..I'll have to think about it. She squealed in surprise and delight when Kavya leapt forward and grabbed her, twirling her around in the rain. He looked concerned when he heard her sneeze and dragged her towards the car, making sure she was warm enough. Both of them stared at each other, lost to the world, oblivious to the ongoing around them and it was the perfect moment for both of them as their lips met softly, hesitant at first but grew bolder and passionate with every passing minute. The shrill sound of the phone ruined their perfect moment as they both resurfaced to answer the call.
Anjali: Hello!! She wriggled about as Kavya kissed her neck.
Kripa: Anjali! Did you find Kavya? Is everything okay? Did he tell you?
Anjali: Yes! Yes! And Yes!!
Kripa: OMG OMG OMG!!i can't believe it I am so happy for you. Kavya is a really good person. He deserves happiness.
And I know that you will always keep him happy. Oh God this is so great. Now there will be 2 weddings I get to attend yours and Josh's.
Anjali: oh but you get to attend one more. Don't tell me that you forgot that you will be getting married aswell. Would'nt it be cool if we all got married at the same day? She let out a laugh as Kavya tickled her and silently pleaded to herto get off the phone.
Kripa: well I'll talk to you later. Tell Kavya I said hi. She cut the phone and took a deep breath to calm her ruffled nerves. She changed her clothes and went off into a deep dreamless sleep. Kripa woke up late the next morning and stretched herself; her eyes still closed, inhaling deeply. A pleasant fragrance assailed, up her nose, bringing pleasure to the senses. She opened her eyes and to her amazement she saw a single long stemmed blood red rose on the pillow. She looked at it in awe when her mother came in.
Mom: morning beta. Hurry up and get dressed we have to go shopping for your wedding. She looked at Kripa who was still staring at the rose. She smiled at her daughter.
Mom: Angad had it delivered over while you were asleep.
