Chapter#20

Khushi walked slowly and looked up at the sky leaving a heavy sigh out. She looked back at the road to spot any taxi or auto but couldn't see any and soon after taking a few steps she spotted a park where children were playing. She smiled, slightly and looked at the lunch box. She couldn't go back with this, Anjali would ask her questions and a doubt would obviously rise. Khushi felt that feeling erupt inside her again. She really did love him but there is nothing that she could do. At all. He didn't even look at her once.

Arnav's POV

Stop ASR what do you think you're doing?

No, you can't let her go Arnav. Stop doing this to her!

My mind and my heart both had different perspectives, it was frustrating but my heart... it was winning; for the very first time in years.

I kept walking and walking until I finally saw a familiar figure a little afar. It was her. I was glad to see her there, sitting in the park with some children around her, laughing and eating.

I left out a sigh of relief because the things that went through my mind made my breath catch in my throat.

It was a yellow bench she had been sitting on with a huge oak tree on the left side of the bench. She looked beautiful; either it was me who has never noticed her like this before or it was just something special. The little kids, some on the bench, next to her and some on the ground in front of her. The kids were eating food that was in the lunch box.

I got a little closer to get a better view of her but yet on a safe distance from which she wasn't able to see me. One of the kids offered her to eat but she denied. Seeing her head nod negatively made my heart slid down to my stomach for some reason. I don't know.

I unintentionally stepped a little closer. A girl, about 4-5 years old who sat right next to her on the bench touched her mangalsutar on which Khushi just smiled.

"My mom wears the same thing. She says she wears it because it indicates that she is married." –The girl looked at her mother who sat across the park.

"Is it?" – Khushi pulled her cheek.

"Yes, are you married too?" –The girl asked.

"Yes…" – Khushi said looking away and lost.

"Does he love you a lot like my father loves my mother?" – The girl asked her as she looked at Khushi innocently. I don't know why but I was waiting for her answer. My breath stopped for a second.

Khushi looked at the girl; I didn't miss the wetness in her eyes.

"Yes… he loves me a lot." – Khushi answered playing with the girl's hair.

"Did he ever get you anything?" – The girl questioned excitedly.

"Err… he once bought me bangles." –Khushi looked away. "Why don't you go and play with all the other kids now? All of them have finished and you are still eating." –Khushi pouted at the little girl. The girl jumped of the bench as her pigtails jumped in air. She kissed Khushi on her cheek and started running towards the kids.

Khushi smiled at her and then that smile was gone again. A tear slipped her eye and she looked down. After a few seconds she got up as the park guard came to her to inform that he had arranged for a taxi. She packed the lunch box quickly and left for the Taxi.

As soon as I saw her sitting safely and drive away I left the place. I walked back to my office, I felt as if my feet were moving mechanically.

Yes…he loves me a lot.

Yes…he loves me a lot.

Yes…he loves me a lot.

Yes…he loves me a lot.

All I could think of was Khushi's words. I didn't know what to feel. Happy or Sad? There had been times when Lavanya had said 'I love you' but I didn't feel this way, ever. But Khushi didn't even say that… her words it was… ugh… I hated this feeling but it was… good too!

There was only Nk who I could talk to. Yes, I had to ask Nk!

*

All day long he had ignored Lavanya. He had informed Aman to not let her come to his cabin saying that he is busy. His thoughts were stuck to Khushi's words. He didn't know how to react or what to do. The feeling in his heart was inexplicable. He was shouting at his employees for no reason at all. He didn't take any calls even if he did he would just bark orders and shut the phone before they could even protest. He wanted to finish work and get home as soon as possible. He was working physically but his mind was somewhere deep in thoughts.

Why had he even asked Lavanya for an opinion in the first place? Why did he go to her? Why did he even listen to her? When Khushi was going to say no on the Shagun day why hadn't he let her? What took over him? The 'no' was doing strange things to his heart, why? He wanted Khushi to stay with him, WHY?

He questioned himself again and again. Every time he closed his eyes a new question would rise up. He banged his fist on the table in frustration causing the coffee mug filled with coffee to drop down on the floor breaking into tiny pieces and spilling the liquid out. Even the sound of the mug dropping hurt his ears and brain.

"Arnav jee what are you doing? My hand!"

He remembered how she struggled in pain when he twisted her wrist on the Shagun day. He closed his eyes in regret. I shouldn't have done this, he thought. Why did I force her into this? He thought. There was so much in his mind and so much he wanted to admit but he couldn't. He wasn't that easy to let anyone get to his heart but Khushi wasn't just anyone.

He felt so guilty. He had done worst with people but this made him die inside. And then today for the first time he had given her a second look. The color blue looked like it was made for her; the dangling earrings she wore were always loops of different colors. For a second he wondered how many colors she actually had. Her waist long hair; her big honey like eyes; her lips like a rose flower… so Perfect. He was so lucky to have her as a wife.

A smile tugged on the corner of his lips but then his own behavior hit him. He had been so cruel to her. He always slept on the cozy, warm fluffy bed where as she slept on the cold, hard uncomfortable ground. He hit his fist with the table once more but harder this time.

Yes, he was guilty and he regretted every single thing and he was going to apologize to her. He admitted that. But this other feeling in his heart was creating havoc in his mind. He had to go home. He had to ask Nk.

He had been behind the closed door of this cabin for hours now, it was time for home.

The looks that his employees were giving him freaked him out. Today he was Arnav not the usual ASR. That was mostly freaking him out. Lavanya even tried to stop him but he shrugged her off saying that he doesn't have time. He wasn't wearing his coat or his waist coat. He had taken them off and they were lazily lying on his fore arm. His hair was messed up and the look on his face clearly stated how tried he was.

As soon as he reached Raizada Mansion he got out of the car and the servants quickly took his coat and waist coat. He went inside and the first thing he wanted to see was Khushi. He desperately needed to see her once, just once. He looked here and there when Anjali called out to him from the living room.

"Oh, you look tired. You go freshen up I'll quickly send the coffee over?" –Anjali said as she patted his left cheek.

"Where's Khushi? " – He asked looking around the hall in an audible whisper.

"She must be in the kitchen or in the room. I'll send the coffee with her, okay?" –Anjali said. She witnessed the sudden light in his eyes at the mention that she was in the house.

"Chote, you liked what she brought for you in noon?" –Anjali asked smilingly.

"Huh? Um… yeah." –He said looking down, feeling guilty again.

"You know she was so happy and she asked me about your favorite dishes and she made them herself. I tasted them and they were to die for. Literally." –Anjali said dreamily as she flicked her tongue over her lips.

There, he felt all worn out again.

She was so happy.

Asked me.

Favorite dishes.

Made them herself.

He closed his eyes in regret. She really was happy. The way she was jumping and walking with quick steps. The smile that lit up every time she tried to annoy him purposely. The sparkle in her eyes, it all came back and he looked around the room once again silently wishing for her to come to the living room. He wanted to see her.

Anjali saw the change of expressions on her face. She knew he didn't treat her well and she had sent Khushi in hope that he'd like that although deep down she knew he'd hate it but there was hope. She saw the way he looked at her, there were mixed feelings. But she couldn't see through. She didn't know how to get things right between them.

"Did you like what she made for you?" –Anjali asked purposely.

"Huh? Um… I…" –Arnav gulped. He didn't even know what she brought for him. "I loved it." –Arnav looked around the fourth time in hope that she'd listen to his heart and come here.

"Really? What did you like the best?" – Anjali questioned curiously. The exact question he was scared of. Why was she doing this to him?

"I… umm… it was the…"- Arnav looked down and rubbed his forehead.

"Di, actually I made him wear the blind fold. You know how I love annoying him." –He heard the beautiful melodic voice. He looked up and saw her standing there smiling pearls. And she saved him? She saved him!

"Aww… you guys are so cute." –Anjali hugged Khushi sideways. Anjali was amused by Khushi, that was the worst life-safe ever. But she let it be. She didn't miss Arnav's relief, the sudden breath he let out as if he was waiting for her.

Arnav on the other hand, looked at Khushi. He felt his heart skip a beat seeing her smile like that. He mentally made a note that he'd never hurt her. She wasn't even at fault anywhere. He made another mental note – Listen to your heart more often and control your anger you idiot.

He had noticed the slightly visible dark circles under Khushi's eyes. He knew she cried but before he thought she was worth it but today he promised that these dark circles wouldn't be there any more.

He had somehow changed a little bit…

Note: Khushi was lying to that little girl about Bangles. Arnav NEVER gifted Khushi anything.
