Geet aap yeh dekh rahe ho ki bahut jald is parivaar se khushiyaan kam hojaayegi. Par yeh bhi toh dekho ki yahi ladki kisi aur ke ghar jaakar unke ghar mein khushiyaan bikheregi. Yeh Parivaar bhale hi toot raha ho par bahut jald Paayal apna parivaar bhi basaayegi.

CHAPTER 54 (A). THE NIGHT OF DECISIONS BEGIN

Place - Shantivan

It was evening of the engagement and the guests were starting to arrive. Soon, the engagement ceremony will be on the way. Anjali felt a thrill run through her body. Her Chutke was getting engaged. Anyone seeing her would remark that she was glowing. Most people would think that she was glowing due to pregnancy but only her family knew that her glow was mainly due to the engagement which was about to happen. She was smiling happily and there was an excitement in her eyes. Her Chutke will be starting his new life pretty soon. Soon, the marriage will occur. And soon, there will be babies running around. The next generation will start their life in this Shantivan the same way she and her brothers had done. Anjali sat by the sofa closest to the door so that she will be ready to welcome the Gupta family when they arrive. Maan's Dadima had told her and Naaniji, Maamiji and Maamaji how Paayal had saved Soni, Maan's fianc and how they considered Paayal as the daughter of their house. Maamiji had proudly exclaimed that she had chosen the perfect bahuriya for the family while Naaniji had teasingly asked that whether the Khuranas were the ladki wallahs today rather than family friends. All of them had a laugh over this. While the elder generation was discussing this, the younger generation was content with ribbing and teasing Aakash. All in all the evening had started beautifully. Ab bas Gupta family yahaan aa jaaye! Phir humaara parivaar poora hoga! Hey Devi Maiyya! Unhein jaldi se yahaan pahuncha do!

While Anjali was praying, Naaniji was sitting right beside her giving her company and Maamiji and Maamaji were talking with guests with Maamiji proclaiming how lucky she was to have a sanskari bahu with modern mentality. Nearby Savitri Devi sat with some older generation guests discussing the younger generation. Across the room, the younger generations were chatting up with friends and clients. Soon, the room was filled with guests and Anjali started fidgeting as the Guptas had not yet arrived.

The Guptas entered the room with Buaji taking the lead as she was the older followed by Babuji and Ammaji. Behind them was Paayal dressed in a heavily embroidered maroon coloured Saree, her eyes looking down shyly. Walking right beside Paayal was Khushi who was teasing her sister and NT who was giving last minute instructions to her. Geet and Lavanya followed the trio and behind them followed a whole bunch of servants carrying gifts and whatnot. Naaniji and Anjali got up from their seat to welcome the guests. Naaniji hugged Buaji and welcomed her while Anjali hugged Paayal and upon seeing NT, she hugged her too. NT noticing her stomach started asking about the latest news about the baby and Paayal and Khushi joined the discussion. Due to this, Anjali did not notice Geet standing right behind them. Naaniji started chatting with Ammaji, Buaji and Babuji and hence, even she did not notice Geet. Soon, Lavanya joined the discussion about babies but Geet remained in her spot. While in normal circumstances, Geet would have noticed the house and recognised it from her dreams but Anjali and Shyam had planned the decoration so wonderfully that the house was irrecognisable for the members of the family itself. Geet would have noticed and recognized the family members too as they would have seemed familiar to her, Geet's mind was stuck on something else. She was waiting to catch Maan's eye as she wanted his approval for her Saree, the same Saree she decided upon, coloured in red and white. As her mind was stuck on Maan, she neither noticed the surroundings and nor the family members.

As Dev and Arjun teased Aakash along with Annie Arnav allowed himself a smile and looked around. As his eyes settled on something, his eyes widened and he hid behind Maan. Maan raised his eyebrows at this action and look towards where Arnav was staring. Aah! The Gupta Clan is here! And so is Khushi! No wonder this fellow is hiding. My dear readers, the beauty of these kind of parties was that you could easily avoid people you want to avoid which Arnav was planning to do till the right time came but people can also not notice you in the party and this was the reason Geet would remain unseen or sometimes vanishing to the Raizadas. Suddenly, a thought struck Maan, yeh sab yahaan hai toh Geet bhi yahi hogi! He smiled softly and excused himself to search for his Soni.

Manorama, known as Maamiji to us, was showing the guests her newly bought pricey necklace when Maamaji pulled her towards the main door as the Guptas had arrived. Maamiji brightened; Oh! The Gupta Sisters iz here. My bahuriya iz here! Very good! Very good! As she and her husband marched towards the Guptas, her eyes fell on the girl standing behind Paayal and she stopped in her tracks. It took her husband's poke on her arm for her to move. Who the girl with them? EE toh humaar Geet Bitiya jaisan dikhat hai. Naahi Naahi! Geet bitiya idhar kaisan? Uu toh apne ghar hoshiarpur ma hai. Phir ee kaun hai? Jo bhi ho! Pata toh lagaana padega ki ee Geet bitiya ki humshakal kaun hai! But by the time she reached there, Geet was already gone. Maamiji looked around searching for the Geet's duplicate when Buaji grabbed her attention. As she hugged Buaji she thought; Kaash Geet bitiya yahaan hoti! Apne Veere ki sagaai dekhkar kitni khush hoti! Hum tumko bahut miss karat hai Geet Bitiya! Aa jaao apne MJ ke paas!

Geet looked around, her eyes only searching for her Maan. As her eyes reached their target, Geet brightened and started walking towards him, hence missing the introduction between the families standing there. If she had stood there for another moment, NT would have introduced her and she would have met Anjali and Maamij and may be many future events could have been avoided. Or maybe things would have still happened. No one knows what was written in your fate.

Arnav sneaked around making sure that he did not meet Khushi alone. If he met her alone his explanation would not seem authentic. As he stared at her, he remembered how they had chosen the blue and silver sharaara for her and he smiled. She was looking so stunning. As his whole attention was on Khushi who was standing with Paayal and Anjali chatting with some of Anjali's friends, he did not notice where he was going. Suddenly, he was hugged tightly and his eyes widened. As he noticed the person who was hugging him, he gulped. Damn! The infamous Buaji! "Haayre Nandkisore! Kaisan ho tum bitwa? Khush ho?", spoke Madhumati alias Buaji loudly. Before Arnav could answer, Buaji continued in sad voice, "Kaahe khush hoge tum? Ghar ke bade aur aapan ki shaadi se pehle chotan ki shaadi ho rahi hai! Ee sahi nahi hai!" Before Arnav could say that don't worry Buaji I will be fine Buaji continued, "Par tohaar baat bhi sahi hai, bitwa. Sahi ladki nahi mili toh shaadi karna theek nahi na!" Arnav raised an eyebrow, when did I answer your questions? Buaji went on, "Galat ladki se shaadi karke poori jindagi kharaab karne se achcha shaadi na karna hi behtar hai!" As he heard Buaji's pravachan, he felt like smashing his head somewhere. Koi mujhe inse bachaao! Buaji continued her lecture, "Ab Aakash bitwa ko hi dekhlo. Humaari Paayal jaisan sahi ladki mili toh haan kardi. Ab dono kitne khus hain. Hum ka kahat hain, Bitwa?" She pulled Arnav's cheeks, "Tohaar liye bhi hum ladki dhoondhe ka?" Arnav looked at her in shock. SOMEBODY HELP ME!, Arnav screamed in his head. It seemed that somebody heard him. "Chote? Kahaa ho? Humein tumhein kisise milaana hai!" Arnav thanked his lucky stars and fumblingly explained to Buaji that his sister was calling and happily escaped. Buaji was left standing there. Ab hum ee baat ka matlab samjhe? Ladki dhoondhe ki naahi?

Anjali smiled happily as she reached her Chote as she dragged the girl behind her. The girl behind her noticed that even with pregnancy and the limp Anjali had a very strong grip. She tapped on Chote's shoulder and he turned around. As he noticed his Di, he smiled at her but his smile faded as he noticed the girl standing behind his Di. Anjali smiled happily and spoke, "Chote inse miliye. Yeh hain Khushiji, Paayalji ki choti behen!" She turned towards a stunned Khushi, "Aur yeh hain humaare Chote, Arnav Singh Raizada!" She turned back towards Arnav, "Pata hai Chote! Inhein laga ki aap chote se bachche hain kyunki hum aapko Chote bulaate hain. Inhein laga ki aap dus barah saal ke hain aur humse poochti hain ki Chote kahaan hai? Humein unse khelna hai. Isliye hum inhein aapse milaane laaye!" She turned back to Khushi, "Khushiji, agar aap Arnav ko hi dus barah saal ka samjhe toh aap Aakash ko kya samjhengi? Hum toh use Chutke bulaate hain!" She laughed and spoke, "Achcha! Aap dono baat kijiye! Hum baaki mehmaano se milte hain!" Anjali walked away.

Arnav felt his heart beat madly as he arranged his face to look like he was in shock. It was time for his plan. He hoped the plan worked or there would be hell to pay! Not only will his Di be disappointed in him but also he will get thrashed by Maan! He took a deep breath, "Afreen? I mean Khushi tum yahaan?", Arnav spoke in a shocked voice. Khushi's face looked a bit paler, "Aap Anjaliji ke Chote Bhai?" Arnav let out a huff and smiled, "I knew that Paayal had a little sis but I never expected it to be you. I can't believe it!" He let out a surprised laugh hoping Khushi would not see through his act. Khushi stuttered, "Aap….Aap Anjaliji ke Chote bhai hain?", Khushi seemed stuck on the same track, Arnav mused. But why did her voice seemed a bit sad? No! It was just his imagination. Arnav nodded eagerly, "Yeah! I am her brother. Such a small world na, Khushi! Tum mere Cousin Bhai ki honewali wife ki behen ho! You know what? I should have checked the invitation card. I would have known this. This is so funny! Jis ladki se main itne din mil raha tha woh toh mere Bhai ki saali nikli. Aur main soch raha tha tumhaare Amma Bauji se miloon! Mujhe toh pata hi nahi ki I met them two months back. This is so funny." He smiled at Khushi but Khushi did not smile back. What was wrong with her? Arnav wondered. Was she not buying his act? If she was not convinced then why is she not scolding me? Why is she staring at me as if his identity was a sad thing? What's wrong?

Khushi was staring at him as a conversation with her family came into her head. She felt tears come in her eyes as she stared at Arnav sadly. Hey Devi Maiyya! Yeh kya hogaya? Arnavji hi Anjaliji ke bhai hai! Yeh theek nahi hai Devi Maiyya! Theek nahi hai! Kaash yeh sachchai humein pehle pata hota toh…..Aapne aisa kyun kiya, Devi Maiyya? She turned away from him without reacting. Arnav stared at Khushi in confusion. Why was she not reacting? Either she should be happy that he was almost family or she should be angry because he lied to her. Why was she not reacting? Maybe she is in shock. He nodded. Yes, she is in shock. Once she was out of it, she will react. But he will not give her time to react. Before she knew it, he would propose and soon she would be his fianc. Arnav smirked and walked away to meet the guests.

Geet smiled at Maan as Maan pointed out various guests to her. They were standing in a corner unnoticed by anyone. Suddenly, Maan whispered, "Bas Soni! Ek mahine ki baat hai! Phir aisi hi ek party humaare ghar hogi aur tumpar saare logon ka attention hoga jaise aaj Paayal par hai." Geet nodded as she turned to look at Paayal who was blushing while Aakash smiled at her. They were surrounded by guests who were talking to them. Even though Paayal and Aakash were speaking with other people, their eyes seemed to be glued on each other only. Geet wished that Maan and she would be the same at their engagement. No, she wished that Maan and she would be the same even after years and years of their marriage. She hoped that their love was strong to withstand all the ups and downs in the life.

Maan suddenly pulled her and she broke out of her thoughts and looked at Maan. He smiled at her, "Aao! Main tumhein aaj apni best friend se milaata hoon." Geet frowned, "Khushi ke Arnavji se?", she inquired. Maan shook his head. "Arnav ki badi behen se!" Geet looked at him surprised and Maan explained, "Arnav mujhse do saal chota hai. Uski badi behen mere saath school mein thi. Mere hi class mein thi. Uske through hi main Arnav se mila. Pata hai poori school mein ek wahi thi jo mujhe sabse jyaada samajhti thi. Aao main tumhein apni Angel Dear se milaata hoon." Geet looked at him confused as he walked with her, "Angel Dear?" Maan smiled, "Uski koi relative thi jo use AD bulaati thi kyunki Anjali Di bolne mein use problem hota tha. Bachchi thi na isliye." Geet smiled and Maan continued, "Maine ek baar Anjali ke book par AD likha hua dekha aur uske baare mein Angel se poocha toh woh boli ki uske naam ka short hai. Main confuse hua aur matlab poocha toh usne kahaa khudi sochlo. Toh maine use chidhaaya ki kahin AD matlab Angel Dear toh nahi. Aur bas baaton baaton mein uska nickname Angel Dear padha. Par only I am allowed to call her that." Geet giggled at Maan's childhood story and spoke up, "Unhonein bhi aapka koi nickname rakha hai kya?" Maan nodded, "She calls me Maan Saab cause ghar ke naukar tabhi mujhe Maan Saab bulaate the aur mujhe pasand nahi tha. She did not like her nickname so she gave me a nickname I disliked." Geet laughed openly at the childish face Maan made at his nickname. Maan and Geet were nearing a lady dressed in beautiful red saree with back towards them when someone tapped Geet's shoulder from behind. She turned around and noticed NT. NT smiled at her uncomfortably, "Geet ek help chaahiye!" Maan turned to look at NT while Geet spoke, "Haan! Boliye!" NT was dressed in silver colored saree with sparkles strategically placed on it. "Woh kya haina! Jaldi jaldi mein humne Saree baandhi thi. Toh Pallu humein problem de raha hai. Jara aapke humaari madat kardo na!" Geet nodded and looked at Maan, "Maan! Main abhi aati hoon. Jaana hoga. Aapke Angel se thodi der mein milenge." Maan nodded and Geet walked away with NT towards washroom.

Maan turned around only for Anjali to turn around too. "Arre! Maan Saab! Kaise hai aap? Aur kahaa hai humaari Soni? Yaad rakhiye aapne promise kiya tha ki engagement mein milaayenge. Kahaa hai woh?" She looked around Maan as if Maan was hiding his Soni behind him. Maan rolled his eyes and spoke, "Main abhi use hi la raha tha tumse milaane but NT needed her help. So she had to go!" Anjali huffed, "Theek hai! Par hum aur intezaar nahi kar sakte. Jaldi milaayiye humein unse!" Maan nodded and Anjali waddled off.

Khushi smiled as her sister prattled off about the various guests she met till now; but her smile seemed a bit sad. As she noticed Anjaliji limping around, she remembered Arnav's words from the day when he told her about his past, "Bahut khush thi meri Di! Aur woh toh pehle hi khoobsurat thi but that day she was simply glowing; woh dulhan ka joda, haathon mein shagun ki mehendi, aankhon mein sharam aur hoton par muskaan. Pari lag rahi thi meri Di!" Khushi's eyes widened as she realized that Anjali was the girl Arnav was talking about that day. As she stared at Anjali, Arnav's voice echoed in her head, "Next thing I knew, Mom slipped and fell down the balcony right into the holy pyre jo Di ke saamne jal raha tha. Meri Di ke aankhon ke saamne Mom jal rahi thi." Her eyes filled with tears. Bechaari Anjaliji! Unki aankhon ke saamne unki amma jal gayi. As she noticed Anjali smiling, she felt proud that she knew such a great lady. Itne bade haadse se ubhar kar apni zindagi naye se shuru karna woh itne khush hokar! Maanna padega aapko Anjaliji! Hum bahut garv mehsoos karte hain ki hum aapke rishtedaar hain! She smiled softly. Anjaliji aur Arnavji pehle Malik the. Aur Naaniji hi thi jo Khurana Mansion se unhein le aayi thi. She gave a fake smile at guests around her as her brain connected the dots and pieces and gave her rough idea of Raizada's past. Suddenly, her own words echoed in her mind, "Bas! Ab itna hi! Ab aur dard nahi, Arnavji! Ab aur dard nahi! Ab aapki zindagi mein sirf khushiyaan hongi; sirf khushiyaan! Gham aapko choo bhi nahi paayengi! Aur aap ab akele nahi! Hum haina aapke saath aur hamesha rahenge!" Khushi looked at Arnav who was milling with the guests, with tearful eyes. Kya hum woh waada nibha paayenge, sach jaanne ke baad? Kya hum us wade ko tootne se rok paayenge, yeh sab nayi baatein janne ke baad? Nahi! She wiped her eyes. Hum poori koshish karenge ki yeh waada na toote! Hum poori koshish karenge ki aap kabhi akele na padein.

He walked around the perimeter as he noticed the decoration of the house. To yahaan hai Geet? The man mused. He was cloaked in black from head to toe but his face was seen. He was hiding by the shadows near the mansion. He had covered himself in such a manner that none of the guests passing by him noticed him. Once the guests stopped coming, he stepped forward. As he neared the main gates of the Shantivan, he gave a signal and soon there were men around him dressed as same as him with only their faces showing. He turned and looked at each and everyone's faces, "Mujhe Geet chaahiye. Jo karna hai karlo lekin use zinda baahar laao. Main uski jaan khud loonga. Jaao!" The men sneaked by the mansion and one man crouched behind the security guard. He grabbed the man's neck and twisted it and soon the security guard was no more. The other men entered the gate and continued with their mission. The man smirked, "Har waqt tu bach gayi Geet! Aaj nahi! Itne din chupke baithi thi us Khurana Bangle mein par aaj tu baahar aa hi gayi. Har baar tujhe koi na koi bacha gaya mere vaar se par is baar kaun tujhe bachaayega. Is bheed ka faayda lekar main tujhe chup chaap kab vahaan se le aaunga tujhe pata bhi nahi chalega!" He looked smugly at the mansion.

Everybody looked up as a voice boomed through the room. Till now there was only soothing music playing in the room which many people had not noticed. So this voice jarred them out of the thoughts. "Dear friends, family and guests welcome to such an auspicious event; an event where two hearts tie themselves in a strong bond." Everyone looked towards one of the corner where musicians had set up their equipments and a man was speaking on a mike while a girl holding another mike stood. The girl spoke, "Aayiye is khoobsurat shaam ki shuruvaat karein ek pyaare love duet ke saath. Ek aisa gaana jiske bol yahaan aaye har ek jode ke dil mein hoga!" As the crowd tittered, the man spoke, "So, let me see all the couples on the floor starting with the stars of the night - Paayal and Aakash!" People clapped as Khushi pushed a blushing Paayal and Anjali pushed a sheepish looking Aakash towards the dance floor. Both looked at each other shyly before Aakash boldly raised his right hand and Paayal bashfully placed her left hand on it. He pulled her softly and took the dance position. Paayal remembered their dance on their date and took up the position. Everyobody cheered and the lady with the mike spoke, "Arre! Dekho kitne sharma rahe hain. Chaliye! Unhein comfortable karne ke liye aur jode inhein company dijiye." When nobody moved, she spoke again, "Arre! Koi toh aayiye. Kya pata aapke is effort se inki yeh shaam inki zindagi ki sabse khoobsurat pal ban jaaye." Suddenly, Arjun tugged Annie and dragged her to the dance floor. Annie sportingly joined him. Dev tapped on NT's shoulder, who turned to look at him. He gave her a bow and spoke, "May I?" with his hand raised in front of her. She giggled and mumbled, "You may!" and placed her hand in his. As they joined the dance floor, two more couples joined them.

Anjali was looking at Paayal and Aakash with a smile when she felt someone place a hand on her back. She turned to see Shyamji standing behind her. "Chaliye Rani Sahiba! Thoda naach lete hain." Anjali frowned as her right hand pointed at her limp while left pointed at her pregnant stomach. "Par kaise?", she pouted. He winked at her, "Naachne ke liye chalne ki jaroorat nahi hoti, Rani Sahiba! Hum dono ek jagah khade hokar naach lenge." Anjali grinned delightedly. Soon, they joined the dance floor and the song started. The man and girl with mike were to be singing while the musicians played the melody. The lights around the area dimmed and spotlight shone on the dance floor. The spotlight was dim enough that only the couples on the floor could see each other's faces. Soon, notes of flute flew through the air followed by tunes of piano and guitar and the couples started swaying.

Shyam smiled at Anjali as they swayed in the place. He slowly pulled her close and hugged her lightly being careful with her baby bump.

Anjali came out of his embrace and looked at him tearfully. While she had a whole plethora of family members, he only had her. She smiled softly and placed her head on his chest. But she grinned as she realized that soon there will be another person to be called his; their baby.

Soon the singer started whistling and Arjun spun Annie around. Annie laughed as she spun. Both had large smiles on their faces. This was their forte from college days; couple dancing. He dipped her very low and she shrieked; not in fear but in excitement. He pulled her and turned her around. He hugged her from behind and they swayed softly.

As the music continued, Aakash pulled Paayal closer by her waist. She took a sharp breath and her eyes widened. He winked at her and she blushed.

Aakash spoke up, "Main waada karta hoon, Paayal. Main tumhaare har dukh mein tumhaare saath khada rahoonga." Paayal smiled, "Aakash! Ab hum ek hain. Toh humaara dukh aur aapka dukh kaisa! Jo hai hum dono ka hai! Sukh bhi aur dukh bhi!" He smiled at her answer and she smiled back.

As music began, Maan who was standing near Geet reached for her hand and held it. Geet looked at Maan in surprise and Maan whispered to her, "Agle mahine hum dono bhi Aakash aur Paayal ki tarah sabke beech mein naach rahe honge. Humaare liye bhi koi aisa hi gaana gaa raha hoga!" Geet smiled and nodded.

As the notes of Guitar flew in the room, Dev spun NT around and she smiled at him. Then notes of flute flew around and Dev pulled NT closer and she placed her hands around his neck.
