Supernatural @ Comic-Con: Bros 'Stronger Than Ever,' an Angelic Free-for-All and More Scoop
Hellacious angelic mayhem is upon Supernatural.
Executive producers Jeremy Carver and Robert Singer joined Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles,Misha Collins and Mark A. Sheppard to tease Season 9's "free-for-all" of angels and demons. They also weighed in on the state of Sam and Dean's bond and Castiel's new humanly form.
SNEAK PEEK | A Season 8 sizzle reel set to Doobie Brothers' "Rockin' Down the Highway" (watch below) was followed by a first look at the new season, which features Kevin freaking out in the Men of Letters bunker. When Dean enters, the prophet almost shoots him with an arrow. "You're a crappy shot, Katniss," Dean remarks before Sam brings in a bagged-and-cuffed Crowley. They want the name of every demon possessing a human, and they have a plan to get them by putting Crowley in his "own personal hell": Isolation.

ANGEL MADNESS | "We're going to learn pretty quickly that a world full of fallen angels is pretty much a free-for-all," previewed Carver. "We're going to see it's not one unified body. We've got lots of angels out there with lots of different agendas. Many are feelings lost and vengeful. A world of fallen angels is a dirty, bloody, scary and, in some ways, a very human world."
BROTHERLY BOND | "For the first time in a long time, the brothers chose each other and their love for each other over the season-long quest," shared Carver. "That has left them stronger than ever, but has also created a tremendous amount of fallout." Season 9 will find the "brothers walking into a world where all the normal constructs of Heaven and Hell aren't there anymore." Added Padalecki: "We keep on fighting the fight together. In this free-for-all world, where we have the King of Hell living in our dungeon and angels walking all over the place, we're really going to need each other."
BEING HUMAN | Castiel's new state of being will be "a remarkable shift" for the former angel, teased Collins. Whereas before he could use his powers to help the Winchesters, "now he can pop in and basically fold laundry. There's a shift in the dynamic there in terms of how he can be utilized by the brothers. For Castiel's arc, it's going to be an immensely rich terrain to explore." So what human moments can fans expect for Cas? "Getting to experience what it's like to actually eat ' and then what happens to the food after," joked the actor. "You're an adult and you're flushing the toilet for the first time. There's gotta be an epiphany."
BUNKER HILL | "The Men of Letters for Dean is a home," said Singer. "For Sam, it's a workplace" to explore academic pursuits. "That's something we'll be exploring even more fully."
GIRL POWER | After geek goddess Felicia Day crashed the panel, Singer revealed that the producers have "big plans" for Charlie this coming season.
TAKING THE REINS | While Ackles has directed episodes of the show, Padalecki doesn't "think it's right for me to do currently," he said. "Maybe in a couple of seasons. Our breaks always seem so short." His costar, Misha Collins, will helm Episode 17. "I thank Bob and Jeremy for the chance' and apologize in advance for the product," he joked.
HEY, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO HIM'? | Burning question time: Will Jesse the Antichrist be back? "It's a wonderful character to play with," replied Carver. "I don't think you're going to see that character in the early run of episodes this year. Beyond that, I really couldn't say any more."

Supernatural Scoop: Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki Tease Dean's Big Secret About Sam
Someone's got a secret on Supernatural, and it's a major one.
When the CW series returns Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Winchesters will have to band together like never before to deal with the aftermath of Metatron's actions in Heaven, not to mention handling Crowley and his ilk.
But all of that may prove difficult when a key piece of intel threatens to pull the brothers apart.
"They've got angels, they've got demons and all the other stuff in between to now deal with," star Jensen Ackles previewed at Comic-Con. "They've got to figure out how to navigate the terrain with all the new elements. They're really going to need each other more than ever at this point, and they're going to have to rely on each other more than ever, which is going to be difficult because there's a secret that Dean is harboring right now from Sam."
So what is this hidden info, which Ackles called "one of the bigger issues of the series" and "a massive wrench" in the brothers' relationship?
"It really heavily involves Sam," revealed his costar Jared Padalecki. "It even has a lot to do with why Sam's still alive."
While the outcome of the secret is good ' Sam's still here, after all! ' the elder Winchester is not feeling so great about keeping it under wraps. "Dean is continuing to lie to Sam, and he's hating it every step of the way," continued Padalecki. "And Sam can't really tell. Sam's like, 'OK, I remember our conversation about teamwork, so I'm going to take you at your word.' But when Sam finds out, s't's going to hit the fan."
Padalecki, however, is optimistic. "I hope Sam will understand," he said. "I'm sure there will be a time when he does not, when he's upset just because Dean begged him to stop something and offered honesty and partnership and then, right off the bat, is keeping a secret' I like Sam being alive, so I hope he forgives the guy."
In the meantime, the Winchesters will find themselves fighting side by side. "Given the fact that the brothers chose each other, essentially, instead of closing the gates of Hell, that has now given them a lot to deal with," teased Ackles, adding that the enormity of their new fallen angel reality means "they're really going to have to unite' For right now, they're on the same page. We'll see how long that lasts."
Is anyone already getting 'the feels?' I AM. đł I say, bring it on then! :)
