HIS UNBREAKABLE VOW
PART 3
It wasn't long since they started walking through the thick jungle that Geet started feeling a bit uneasy, but she didn't want to voice it out, fearing his reaction as he was already hell irritated with the way things were proceeding. Should she tell him, will he be mad at her.? Debating with her own thoughts, she finally chose to stay mum assuming it to be just her forest phobia. The kept walking with Maan carrying Geet, when nature too decided to interrupt their journey, and it started pouring. It rained like never before, the water cascading down the sky and hitting their skin like piercing needles. Geet shivered feeling the chilly water hitting her skin while Maan looked least bothered given the clothing he wore, he could hardly feel the water hitting him as for Geet, she was vulnerable in her netted saree . The water was unreasonably cold today, or may be because she wasn't used to such rains before. Finding no other option, she just cuddled into Maan more, seeking his warmth finding him adapting to the weather easily as she couldn't take the piercing rain and cold any longer. Feeling her cuddling into him, for a second he forgot it was raining and wanted to leave her immediately given the closeness between the two. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, the water hit him harshly making him realize that it was pouring down heavily, while the water was too cold. He looked down at her, and saw her pulling him closer for his warmth. He looked at her saree, and realized it was too thin or rather nothing to keep her skin away from the piercing cold water. He could see her skin glowing through the saree revealing each and every inch of the skin that could be exposed. Regretting his mistake of screaming at her unnecessarily, while she was hiding it all within herself without even bothering to tell him for so long, he started walking faster in hope of seeking some shelter. He kept on waking, yet he couldn't find anything , not even a proper tree under which they could rest for a while. But he couldn't see her in that state too, knowing she was already hurt from the fall, and his harsh words didn't help her either. Finding no other option, he stopped in his tracks setting her down. The sudden loss of speed and his warmth, forced her to open her eyes, and she saw they were standing at a place drenching in the rain. Shivering, she cuddled herself closer and saw him taking his blazer off. What happened next was utterly shocking for her, he pulled his blazer away from his body and placed it on her. He was rude, arrogant but he was human. " Wear this, you will feel better " he said, drawing his hands away from he, while she looked at him astonished , he was concerned for her. Not that she wasn't happy, but a bit shaken up.
" What about you.? " she asked him, to which he just nodded in a no.
" I will be okay, I am used to this rain as I have camped a lot in jungles. So don't worry about me. Just wear it and you will feel warm. And next time, don't wear such an exposing saree. I mean, wear something which can help in such situations or for that matter, in any siutation." he ordered her, making her gasp and she looked down at herself, realizing what he meant. She was drenched, and could see her skin. She immediately wore his blazer feeling shy. But he pointed it out, which means he did notice and he cares.!
" I know you camped a lot in these jungles, no wonder you walk to fast, that you don't realize the people walking with you. " she commented in her instant need to change the topic as it was embarrassing for her to talk about exposure given she did it twice today. Hearing her, he just shot at her with his angry piercing gaze to which she just lowered her eyes. Soon enough, he realized that he was walking too fast for her to catch up, and even when she tried her best he screamed at her when she fell. He softened his gaze and looked away.
" I'm sorry.! I didn't realize that I was walking too fast for you. I should have checked on you, and not screamed on you like that." he apologized not looking at her by any chance.
" please don't be sorry. I understand " she replied, too awed by his apology, though he was very rude but he was caring too. Adjusting the blazer on herself, she looked at him and found him in just his shirt, with his waist coat on. Is he sure he doesn't want it.? She was concerned for him, despite his aloofness. Well, being the sweet and kind hearted girl she a always was she couldn't resist asking him.
" Are you sure you don't want it.? I am okay please take it back, what if you fall ill.? " she said ready to remove the blazer, when he held her hands stopping her.
" I said I am fine, you are the one who will fall ill.So please stop worrying about me, and keep it on. " he gritted through his teeth. He was waiting for her to answer, but she had her head lowered obeying him. He realized she was waiting for him to continue, and sighing he smiled at her childlike innocence, waiting for someone to complete their order
" Okay.?? " he asked softly, making her look up. She nodded her head, obeying him but she didn't miss the smile that faded away as soon as she looked up.
" Now lets find a place where we can avoid this rain " he said, and bent to pick her up, when she placed a hand on his shoulder, stopping him. He raised an eyebrow, she removed her hand and fidgeted with the button of his blazer.
" Woh..I..You.. Your hand must be hurting now, you carried me all the way, it's okay I can walk for a while. " she said worried, that he might be tired.
" I said dont worry about me, I am fine. Moreover, you are my responsibility. If anything happens to you, Dadimaa will ask me. So I don't want to face any of it. " he said, draining the color out of her face. She felt the pang in her heart at his harsh words. He was just doing this for not wanting to hear anything from Dadimaa, not that he cared for her.? Doesn't he care for her at all.? The thought itself, broke her and tears gave away. Seeing her silent he was ready to pick her up again but she stepped back.
" It's okay. I can take care of myself. You don't need to bother about me, if you are responsible enough to take care of me for your own benefit, then I am responsible enough to take care of myself for my own good too. " saying this she walked away. He stood there, shocked by her simple yet hurting taunt. Did he hurt her.?? Again.? Was he rude, was all he could think.! Seeing her limping her way forward drenched in the cold rain, he got his answer; yes he was rude and he hurt her yet aain.! But he didn't deserve the concern she was showing for him, and to escape that he bluntly hurt her yet again. Sighing, he closed his eyes regretting his words. He really needs to calm down a bit. He ran towards her, and jerked her back ready to pick her up again but this time she protested.
" Please, leave me. You don't need to do this. " she wriggled trying to free herself.
" Geet, stop it. You are hurt. " he said, not loosening his hold on her.
" I know. But why do you care.? " she said, regretting the very moment as she was very rude for her own limits.
" Please Geet.! I know I was rude, I am sorry. But I am irritated with everything and you are adding to it. " he lied proficiently. She looked at him shocked as he apologized yet again, making her feel guilty that she was bothering him after the entire disastrous events that took place. She slowly toned down, letting him take control of the situation. Sensing her calm mood, he picked her up once again and she willingly agreed. He walked again, carrying her while she just kept staring at him, not scared of him anymore, as she knew he was soft at times too. Soon she started feeling drowsy again, and the pain started kicking into her nerves right at the place she hurt herself. She knew she had to voice it out, yet she couldn't as she was unable find her own voice in her body, as she was slowly loosing consciousness. Finding the last option, she tugged on his shirt, with her hands around his neck trying to grab his attention. But before she could do it anymore, her eyes gave away and she lost the bit if sight she had. Feeling her hand, tugging him and her body loosening up compared to a while ago, he looked down to see her all unconscious, her head hanging off while her hands too flapped towards the gravity. He instantly stopped, seeing her unconscious and panic coursed through him.
" Geet.?? " he called out, patting her cheeks. In response, he got only her silence. He patted her several times, yet she didn't respond to him. What happened to her suddenly..? She was all fine till now.?
" GEET. " he screamed, rubbing her hands into his , and then took off her heels rubbing her foot and that's when he noticed it. Her foot was all turning blue, that's when it struck him; she was hurt. He immediately picked her up again, desperately seeking a shelter. He finally managed to locate a tree which was good for a while. Setting her on the ground, he tightened the blazer around her , covering her and ran forward to find something better. All the while, running through the jungle he was praying for some better way out, and her safety as she was all alone. Finally after running for minutes, he located a small hut in the center of isolated tress, he ran towards it to check for it's reliability. Satisfying himself, he ran back to her with dashing speed and felt relieved finding her just the same way he left her. Swiftly picking her up, he ran yet again towards he hut managing to keep her safe from the chilling rain. Once, into the hut he placed her on the hay and secured everycorner of the hut yet again. Luckily, there was a small bunch of wood lying there, carefully placing them away from the hay he ignited the fire with his lighter. After several failed attempts, he managed to light it and the hut started getting warmer. He checked on her, and worried finding her body utterly cold. What was he supposed to do.?? He had the basic knowledge of her body getting cold due to the rain, but how long will the fire last.? He had to do something. An idea crept up his brain, but he lost the hope too as how would he find network in the god forsaken lonely place, but it was the last option he had. He ran out of the hut, securing it behind himself and fished out his phone, trying his best to get network. He ran for each and every corner trying to get network, so he could get help. After several attempts, he finally managed to get some network in one corner. They couldn't go back now, given the fact that Geet was unconscious and cold, he cant take her back with the rain pouring its way down, it might just make everything worse. Hurrying, before he looses it he dialed Aakash, his very close friend and a renounced doctor. Soon he got through the call and blasted off about the condition Geet was in. Aakash freaked out hearing Maan so confused and panic stricken. He asked Maan to be calm and describe the situation properly. Hearing him out, Akash warned Maan to listen carefully as it could turn out to be way more serious than it possibly was.
" Maan, listening to the symptoms you just described, I think Geet is the state of a hypothermia shock, or to just say it ; she is suffering from hypothermia. Her body is below the normal body temperature and she needs heat ASAP. I am worried that her injury might have dipped her temperature down as it was neglected and could have been poisonous. Give her some kind of heat or take her to a warm place immediately " Aakash explained on the phone.
" We found a hut and I have lit the fire. But her body is not warming up even after the fire. " Maan said, worriedly.
" Maan please, stop panicking and give her body sometime. These thing don't happen over minutes. Her body will take time to take the heat back, so wait. " Akash tried reasoning.
" But how long.? What if it doesn't work.?? How long will the fire remain the way it is.?! " Maan shouted.
" Look Maan, you have to be practical. If the fire is not enough, give her your own body heat. It's the only way out in that place. " Akash said, making Maan widen his eyes. Even though being from a non medical field, Maan knew what Aakash was implying at, but how on earth was he supposed to do what Aakash said.?
" Aakash, are you out of your mind.? How can I.?? " he shouted.
" Hello.? Maan, you there.? I can't hear you.? Maan do as I said, or she might get worse" was all Maan heard before he lost the connection. He looked back at the phone, and it was dead. He tried his best to bring it back to life but nothing seemed to work. Giving up, he decided to go back and figure out what to do. As soon as he entered the hut, the ground beneath him slipped seeing Geet shivering in the hay. He ran to her, and held her in his embrace feeling the worst coming true. He has to do something, but how.?? Debating his own self, he can't be so selfish to let her die when he has all the reasons to save her. He ran outside and gathered every small piece of wood he came across and dashed back Into the hut and emptied it into the fire, with the hope of keeping it intact for a bit longer. Finally gathering up all his inner self, he held her in his arms and unbuttoned the blazer finally taking it off her. Slowly stripping her off her clothes, he laid her back on the hay, covering her form with the hay and stripped out of his own clothes. It took, every ounce of his courage to lay back beside her but he had to do it at any cost and that's what he did. He lay back on the hay, and pulled her cold body closer, wrapping his arms around her. The moment her body touched his, he shivered feeling her coldness. Her shivers were scaring him, he held her tightly till the time the shivers subsided, while he could feel her relaxing against him. Letting go of his mental trauma, he reached the hay with one of his hand and covered them both with the same. Pulling her closer than ever, he closed his eyes forgetting every detail of his life, except for the truth that; he has to save her. She started warming up soon, but he didn't let go of her scared that she might get worse. Contemplating his own worries, he drifted along with her to the world of unconsciousness as sleep took over him. Soon they were both sleeping peacefully in each others embrace, as Geet even in her unconscious yet subconscious state wrapped her arms around his waist finding relief in his warmth. The nature's assault decided to cease after a while, but failed in disturbing the 2 souls, who were somewhere in their own individual worlds too lost to think of what consciousness was bringing for them.
