CHAPTER : 1 : RESPONSIBILITY :
Their bags which were packed last night ... were still the same place ; where they were put. There was no sign of a struggle ... then , where the hell - was Manyata & Udita? Uday dialled Manyata's cell , but all he got was : THE NUMBER YOU HAVE DIALLED IS CURRENTLY SWITCHED OFF ... PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER! Again he dialled ... again the same recording. His heart-beat was erratic with panic ... Princess - where are you? He dialled the reception area and asked if they had seen his wife and daughter , but they answered in the negative. In his heart , he believed that they were fine and just went for a stroll ... but his brain , kept telling him to call the cops.
They were Royals , Royal's that were moving around without bodyguards ... what if someone recognised them and took advantage of the fact that they were unguarded? Who could he suspect? There was Leena , whom he met on 2 occasions , then there was Miss Tess ... who had become really fond of Udita ; but those 2 woman were in Miami - and this was Orlando!
Perhaps those 2 teenagers ... they met them first in Miami and last night they were here in Orlando. It HAD to be them , Uday decided. No! They're just kids. My family is not kidnapped ... surely I would've heard something , if someone came in here! , he deduced. But the question remained ... where was his wife and daughter?
Just then , there was a knock at the door ... Uday opened it to find Manyata and Udita. He hugged them with full force , in relief , saying a silent THANK YOU to God. Where were you , Princess? Why is baby so heavy? , he asked as he carried Udita. The child was almost lost beneath 3 sets of clothes , which Manyata dressed her in. Uday - I got up and I was really hungry ... then why didn't u call for room-service? , Uday interrupted. I really felt like having a hot-dog and room-service doesn't cater for that! So , u go out by yourself ... taking my daughter! , Uday yelled. Why the hell , didn't u wake me? , his voice got louder and Udita started crying , fearing his raised tone. I didn't want to disturb you! But u woke up Udita and took her! Manyata took the baby and tried to calm her ... Uday - quietly please ... you're scaring her! This is not over ... we'll talk when I get back! Where are u going? I need some air. He kissed Udita and walked out of the suite.
Pacing back and forth in the lobby , was doing NOTHING to calm his shattered nerves. He always knew that Manyata was not the brightest girl in the world ... but doing something as foolish as THIS , was beyond the limit. He had a mouthful to tell her ... God - HELP ME NOT SMACK HER for her stupidity! , he prayed.
As he made his way , to their room ... Manyata was already wheeling their bags out. Uday - the taxi is downstairs - we need to go. He shut the door : the taxi can wait! His tone was serious and Manyata braced herself for the bombarding , she knew was coming.
I open my eyes at 7:30 ... my wife is NOT IN BED with me, I go to my daughter's room - and SHE'S NOT THERE! Do U know WHAT WENT THROUGH MY MIND MANYATA? DO YOU? She swallowed hard but didn't answer. He took a deep breath and made an extra effort to keep his voice low , as he didn't want to frighten Udita. Then my wife strolls in with my child ... who's suffocating under 3 layers of clothing. And where were they? Apparently , my wife got hungry ... and went in search of food! Do U know how ridiculous that sounds? Tell me THE TRUTH , NOW ... ! , he pierced his nails into her upper arm , and stared at her ... waiting for a reply.
Ud-Uday ... really - I got up at 6:30 and I WAS HUNGRY ; I PROMISE U THAT! I craved for a hot-dog. I didn't wake you , because I didn't want to disturb you. But I took Baby ... because I thought that in case she woke up and I was not there ... then , she'd remain hungry. I put on extra clothes for her , because it was a bit nippy outside.
Tell me Manyata ... do u have anything up here? , he poked his finger into her head. Did it ever occur to you to call me , to maybe leave a note behind? Uday , I didn't leave a note ... because I was going to call you ... Ahhh , but let me guess - the battery in your cell died ... RIGHT? She nodded slowly ... it did die Uday. BRILLIANT! He started clapping ... JUST F**KING BRILLIANT!
You don't believe me? , she mumbled. If you were in MY position , WOULD YOU? Uday - I promise you ... what I told you, is the TRUTH! Manyata - there was a time , very recently , when I was not with you ... and you became independent - and that was a good thing. But now , it's not all about you ... She was safe with me Uday , Manyata said when she realised what Uday meant.
You were walking around , in an unknown city ... WITH A BABY ; suppose someone recognised you - gave u a bump on your head ; and kidnapped Udita ... THEN WHAT?
You are a beautiful woman ... what if someone followed you , pulled you into an alley ... raped you ... THEN WHAT?
Hot tears started to flow down her face ... realising her mistake. I'm sorry Uday ... I ... , he held up his hand and stopped her from talking further. He took Udita in his arms and wheeled out the luggage , while Manyata followed like a stray cat. Besides Udita's baby-talks ... the taxi drive was quiet. Manyata's eyes kept filling with tears, which she slyly wiped away. Uday continuously stared outside, without giving a second glance to Manyata.
Out of the blue , he suddenly asked : Did u get to eat what u wanted? She shook her head in a "NO" : It was too early ... the vendors were not around! He stopped the taxi , got out and disappeared for a few minutes. When he returned , he had 2 hot-dogs in his hand ... both he gave to Manyata. She smiled at him ... but he did not return her warmth. He remained cold and aloof ... he stayed like that till they got to the yacht ... the sail to the Bahamas was also quiet ... & even when they reached the hotel! There, Manyata tried her best to make light-conversation with him , but he was adamant on staying angry with her. 2 Days had passed at the Bahamia Resort and the only time , she heard Uday's voice , was when he was playing with the baby.
Bhagwaanji - please meri madat karo! , she prayed in the bathroom , as she dressed into the yellow-stringed-bikini that Uday got her , especially for this trip. She hated the way it looked and felt ... it was as good as she was naked! But this is the only way ... she could get Uday talking again. Please Bhagwaanji - make him stop me , from going out like this! DAMN! I don't even have a sarong to cover with.
She came out from the bathroom and Uday was seated on the bed , deeply engrossed in the newspaper. She walked pass him , purposely bumping into him and picked Udita from the other side of the bed. Uday's jaw nearly hit the ground , when he saw his sexy wife. Come Baccha , let's go to the beach ... Mamma and Baby will get a nice tan! , she said whilst watching Uday's expression from the corner of her eye.
She had made her way to the door , when her wish was granted ... UDAY SPOKE : Just a minute! Manyata was so relieved that he stopped her from going outside , dressed in that tiny , little thing. He came to her and took Udita ... U carry on ; Baby's not going with you! Manyata was horrified by Uday's announcement. Her plan flopped ... BADLY!
She slammed the door loudly ... What's your problem Uday? You are actually going to let me go out there , LIKE THIS? Why Princess - U always do whatever u want ... since when do U NEED MY PERMISSION? 1 Time Uday ... just 1 time , I left without informing you ... and you're gonna punish me for the rest of my life for it! , she yelled. Not " for the rest of your life" ... just till u understand what u did. Before she could say anything - he walked out of the room with the Baby. I understand , Uday , she sobbed.
That night Uday got a call from Giriraj , advising him about the "wrong" he was doing unto Manyata. She had obviously phoned him and asked him to intervene in their matter. As the call ended, Uday smiled at her and she felt that all, was back to normal. Uday HAD to listen to his father ... there wasn't a doubt in her mind.
He walked to Manyata and cupped her face. She threw her arms around him and hugged him. He left wet-kisses on her jaw-line ... whispering in-between : U called my father? Mmm ... she managed, as she was losing herself in " the magic of UdayVeer" . Didn't I tell you to call home ... only in emergencies? This was an emergency! He moved down to her neck and began nibbling ... so , U think I'm being unfair? Hmmm. He moved her shirt down and bit into her shoulder ... Tell me Manyata ; is this gonna happen again? No Uday , NEVER EVER ... I'll ask you permission , even if I have to go to the bathroom , she mumbled as she was succumbing to Uday.
He suddenly held her tightly , while laughing hysterically , leaving Manyata ; shocked and confused. What just happened? , she managed to ask. Princess - OBVIOUSLY you don't have to tell me when you're going to the bathroom. Oh! , she answered but was still very confused. Uday , weren't you ... I mean we ... we were , she fumbled her words, trying to find out why they weren't being intimate any more . Oh that ... Uday answered as he realised what she was implying ... I was just having some fun! ; then he moved away.
Halkat , Vede ... tu dekh ab .. , she grabbed a pillow and hit him on his back with it. He had to take cover as she continued the onslaught, until the seams of the pillow gave in and fluff and feathers blew all over the place. Before she could grab the next pillow , he held her hands and dropped her onto the bed.
Princess - kamre ka haal to dekho ... " HOUSE-KEEPING" kya sochenge? , he told to irk her. Uday - enough fighting now. I don't want us to fight ever again , she hugged him. I don't like it when u give me the SILENT TREATMENT. He kissed her on her fore-head ... I also don't like it Princess.
Uday - I'm hungry! , she suddenly announced and made Uday order a 3-course-meal from room-service for her. He watched as she finished every last morsel on her plate ... without sharing anything with him.
The next day , they visited the famous STRAW-MARKET ... which sold everything , made out of - STRAW , obviously. Uday had to put a stop to Manyata's frivolous buying after she already purchased a ton of " unnecessary items" ... in Uday's words. Ummm , where EXACTLY are we gonna put that? , he asked when she bought a set of 3 straw elephants. I don't know yet ... but they look so cute , she pouted.
Uday smacked his fore-head and Udita began laughing at her father. Hmmm , so you think that's funny , hey sweet-heart? , he asked her and she giggled even louder. He lifted her vest and began tickling her stomach. She laughed hysterically as her body squirmed in his arms , out of ticklishness. What's happening there? , Manyata asked with her hands on her hips ... angry that she was being left out of the fun & games. Nothing Princess - U carry on with your shopping ... this is between MY DAUGHTER AND I!
Wait till I get my SON , then WE won't include you - FATHER & DAUGHTER in anything ... haan nai toh! And where do u think you're gonna get "YOUR SON" from? , Uday asked with a mischievous expression which caused Manyata to blush furiously.
Uday was stunned when Manyata finished a large pizza which he ordered , to be shared between them. She wolfed it down in a few minutes , making him very worried about her new eating patterns ... but what she said next ; elevated his happiness to an unknown level : I feel like I'm eating for 2 , nowadays! Oh My God Princess - ARE U PREGNANT?
