Chapter-2:

//

Name: Khushi Kumari Guptha

D/O : Shashi Guptha

Age: 24

Date of Birth: January, 13, 1989.

Qualification: Computers Grad from Delhi University, 2006-09 batch.

Born and brought up in Delhi. Lived with her parents in Chandini chowk"Delhi. According to the information from the neighborhood, the family suddenly moved out to Mumbai for reasons unknown. The only information that the hospital could provide was that she was found with bruises, scars and major injuries in the vicinity of a cathedral resided in the out-skirts of the Mumbai city, she was then admitted into the hospital in question by the church trusty. Questioning the faculty hasn't been of much help. Apparently she was just found in a critical condition on a fine day in the back yard of the church and they knew nothing about the girl. This was exactly a week before Mr.Arnav Singh Raizada found the victim on the terrace of the hospital building.

//

Arnav studied the back story of the victim' as termed by the officer for the umpteenth time which was drafted five months ago in an attempt to try and fetch some more clues. Of course the first piece of information that included her education and native was provided by him and so the police were able to fetch the information from her Delhi neighborhood, which wasn't much as it is. He sighed dropping the file of papers on the table and fetched the other file lying beside it and took a deep breath looking at it with determination.

This was the file which the intelligence department handed him a week ago. He had been apprehensive to read it and had been delaying it, however sooner or later this needs to be done. Although he was informed by the agent that the information wasn't much helpful, somehow he found himself anxious to know about the mystery called Khushi Kumari Gupta. He noticed, as the days turned into months ever since that lone night, he was just being drawn into this more and more. Agreed that his stay in Mumbai was termed by the law, however, he might not just go back to his life leaving her in this state, especially when no one ever approached her as her care takers in all these months despite his efforts. Was she really that alone?

Yes, he had to give up his role of international acquisition in his company and hand over to one of his assistants, and instead take up the local Mumbai operations, however despite everything he found it all worth it. Giving up on his travelling zeal was suddenly worth it as well for reasons unknown. He just had this urge to know what happened with her and what got her into this mess, again for reasons unknown. There was also this sudden fear of apprehension and reluctance to find out what might have happened with her"for reasons unknown.

He found himself in-taking sharp deep breath and halted the inner debate finally opening the file in his hand;

He skipped the basic information which was almost repetitive and quickly moved to the later pages. He flipped a page glancing at her physical details, when a photograph from the file dropped on the table beneath his hands. His eyes swerved to the picture and he caught the glimpse of a smiling girl, looking completely like a woman unlike the one in his own long-lost memory and a much matured one. He held the picture in his hand and observed it closely. She was standing with two other girls in what looked like a corporate surroundings--she was in her casual attire, wearing a pale colored kudthi and jeans; her hair was let loose and was bordering her face on either side and her smile---- he took a moment to closely observe it, the smile was aloof and almost blank.

"Smile isn't just from the lips Arnav, if you think of smiling in your heart; it reaches the eyes which causes your lips to curve up into that adoring gesture; smile suits your face, you should do it more often----"

Her own definition of smile is what exactly lacking in the picture. Her lips were smiling, her eyes weren't. He let out a small bitter laugh at the irony of it all. What had life done to her?

He put the picture back into the page where it belonged, carefully re-fixing it using the glue-stick on his table. He then flipped to the page next, where a piece of written information awaited him.

//----

Khushi Kumari Guptha:

Investigation using her identification details fetched from Mumbai database, reveal that she had been working in Amazing Ad-Agency' as an assistant graphical analyst. Her term of employment was from March 2011 to October 2012. Further questionnaire session with co-employs in the office disclosed her nature as a person in the workplace---Apparently she was all the time aloof, distant and was only concerned with the work allocated; never friendly and stayed alone; genuinely helpful and always overdone at her work. One of her colleagues voiced her nature of behavior as a result to the loss of both of her parents in an accident two years prior to that. With the help of information about her parents fetched from the Delhi University, and digging the accident records of the intelligence department, it is concluded that Mr.Shashi Guptha and Mrs.Garima Guptha have been subjected to spot death in a brutal car accident in December 2011.

The most crucial aspect of the whole investigation here is the fact that she neither did resign nor was dismissed from her job; she just stopped coming to work on a random day and further investigation about her whereabouts by her employer disclosed her absence from her flat as well from the very same day. Her flat was found disoriented and none of her things were moved. She had just disappeared.

-----//

Arnav shut the thick plastic file close with a thud and threw it on his table abruptly. His hands clutched close vigorously crushing his own knuckles as his jaw clenched and un-clenched in random moments, his eyes turning red as his heart was beginning to ache with a vague heaviness. The information was in bits and pieces and there was a lot more missing as well, yet whatever it was dint give him any good feeling.

"Parent's death in an accident? And then finding her in such a state?"

His mind raced with millions of dangerous thoughts and for unknown reasons the mere thought of imagining her in any of such situations raced his heart vigorously and the urge to see her conscious again has just increased by leaps and bounds.

He got up in one swift moment and started pacing back and forth in his office room. He knew what loosing parents was, he knew what being orphaned was, he knew the pain, he is aware of that aloofness which comes as an aftereffect, he is even aware of the walls that suddenly come up around your heart. Losing his parents at an age as tender as 14, and then diverting his attention from life to making his business as his passion made him the Arnav Singh Raizada the world knew today.

He perfectly understood what shutting off the world is; he definitely knew what materializing things meant, for he had been there, gone through it all and with time he did emerge as a slightly better person, but the damage by the past had already been done, made him the person he was all those years back when he was still dealing with his own wrath.

**

A cheating father, a suffering mother, a childhood that had been a silent speculator of domestic quarrels, Arnav Singh Raizada has become one brat of a child, owing to the only fact of his life--- a rich kid. His arrogance, man-handling fellow kids, fights and arrogance towards his teachers, stubborn nature, everything has resulted in being thrown out of one boarding school to another. While his sister Anjali Singh Raizada chose her natural interest and passion for music as her escapism from the wrath of their childhood, he settled for arrogance and stubborn nature.

His parent's sudden suicidal deaths one after the other, when he was all but 16, made it even worse for him. The only thing that remained constant for him was the flow of money from the family's business. Their family belonged to the one of the richest community of Delhi, very prestigious with right amount of political background; their father was the only clan of the Raizada brothers who did not opt the ancestors tradition of a political career instead chose to establish a cooperate industry with his own share from the ancestor clan, which later had been the only source of income for their family. By the time his schooling was completed, Arnav realized, money is the only key for everything and he needed to keep the flow of money coming. Under the guardianship of his Nani, he joined the business soon after his high-school and his mission was set. He encouraged his 21 year old sister to continue her education and implemented the same for himself, efficiently juggling between the business and his education.

It was these three years of his life, where he stayed constantly with his only family. Having realized the need to be a graduate in management for his business expansion, it has been important for him to stay the three years and pursue a constant education. His goals and intentions were set--- no attachments, no relations; no space for a fourth person neither in their worlds nor in their house; heart is just an organ; love is just a commodity; no one is coming near his sister nor him; no friends needed; only target was to be graduated and to fly away to take over the international expansions of AR-Industries.

Such a ruthless, heartless, still arrogant and quite popular Arnav Singh Raizada walked along the campus of the Delhi University with two of his body guards always protecting him; they acted more like guards around the walls of his arrogance into which no one can dare to enter and people just would know their aukad' if they dared to.

And so, at 20 reaching the final year of his graduation, he was the loner, the untouchable by everyone"unreachable rather and for which he was very much pleased with himself. At an age where everyone looked for lifelong friendships, he chose to stay aloof and arrogant. At a time when people of his age, flirted, enjoyed affairs, maintained relationships, he preferred occasional one-night stands. He awaited the running away that was standing at the end of the year and hated the happiness around him not trusting himself to be offered for anymore happiness from the big-fat-world.

**

August 2006:

Semester Results day...

"Sir, you have got an A" John, his body-guard handed him a piece of paper which showed a scribbled hand-writing of all his subject marks.

"That's as expected, anything new?" Arnav shrugged sipping his coke from the tin, leaning onto his sea green TVR Tuscan, a mere head-turner in the campus as his aviators reflected the sun above the roof of the cafeteria adjacent to his car. He exchanged occasional nods to the passing by students who threw random pleasantries at him and ignored the constant glances from the group of girls seated opposite.

"Sir, there is a fresher's event coming up. There is notice put up for the interested students who would like to perform seeking their nominations--"

"Seriously Naman?" he snarled at the second body-guard who gave this piece information. "Is that all you can get from that big freaking notice board? A stupid party of maroons?" he asked sounding incredulous and thus earning an annoying look from the passing by student.

"I'm sorry sir"

"Anything else, important that I should be aware of?"

"I guess nothing sir"

"Guessing doesn't work with me Naman! You get that straight in your head. I only want sure shot answers, you understand??" he yelled again.

"Yes"sorry sir" with that he turned around.

"And where do you think you are going?" Arnav stopped him.

"I'll just go recheck everything and come sir---"

"Did I ask you to?"

Naman just looked down rooted to his place. Arnav then glanced at the other man speculating it all and flipped his head; taking the command John quickly made his way towards the notice board again.

"And you!" Arnav pointed his finger. "Get me a sandwich now, here" he added thrusting a 500 rupee note in his hand.

*

"Oh my god! Guys you can't be serious!!" exclaimed Khushi who had been silently witnessing it all seated with a group of students right behind Arnav's car at a decent distance. Her eyes went wide having seen the whole Arnav Singh Raizada's, I'm-the-boss- drama and her jaw dropped almost digging itself into the ground below.

"He is a man-eater! A perfect definition of an ass-hole! He"he is a living"dinosaur! And you are planning to send me as his prey??"

"Shhh--" a guy from the group silenced her and dragged her away into the cafeteria.

"Look, that's the bet, either do it, or forget your chance to perform in the freshers!" another girl voiced and the group grinned at her.

"This is not fair!!" she exclaimed eating her nails nervously.

"All is fair in Love and war baby" the guy wrapped his hand around her and she shrugged it off immediately. "Listen you---"

"Khushi kumara gupta" she offered.

"Yeah whatever--"

"It's not whatever, it's my name!" she argued with the weird guy, who looked like he had a hundred of piercings at his ear-lobe and the guy just stood there suddenly dumb struck being smitten by her chirpiness.

"Argh! listen you feisty girl, Freshers DO.NOT.PERFORM for the fresher's party, but since you asked and you are not bad yourself, we are giving you this chance, either take it or forget it" the girl standing with the guy offered.

"Or are you scared of bets?"

"I thought you promised you would do anything?"

"So Ms.Khushi Guptha backs off from her promise?"

"Alright stop" She shoved her hand at the small group of her seniors. "Khushi kumari Guptha doesn't back off her promises" she said confidently lifting her chin in the air and girl in front of her lifted her eye-brow in a challenging way. "He does look like a monster but he isn't a monster, is he?" the confidence in her voice suddenly seemed low enough and she swallowed hard.

"Well, you would find that out, wont you?" with that the group started walking away.

"You know what to do right?" she heard them call as she was glued to her place. "We are waiting for another 15 minutes behind the same bushes, get your ass there as soon as possible, we don't have all day you see?" with that the last guy smirked and the group walked away.

----

Having done with his sandwich and coke and after noting down the required details for the coming up semester Arnav walked around towards the driving seat of his car right when he heard the velvety voice with a hint of huskiness in it.

"Arnav!" his hands froze on the door knob and his stance stilled. No one ever called him by his first name other than his own sister. His nani called him chote and the other people whom he interacted with him often called him ASR. So the sound of his name from a foreign voice surprised him.

He turned around in one swift moment to come face to face with a very petite girl, with a ridiculously fair complexion and immensely expressive big eyes, dressed in a floral top and jeans, quite unusual from the kind of girls who hit on him often; she walked nervously and her legs stilled at an audible distance from him while she looked like she was pondering over something.

"A-Arnav right?" she said looking apprehensively.

"You don't look like you don't know my name?" he said with a hint of smirk in his eyes. (Self-obsessed Ass.)

"Ofcourse!" she smiled too widely for own good and extended her hand offering a hand-shake. (Get done with it Khushi, you can do it! You will ask and he will reject, just a matter of asking!)

"I'm Khushi---Khushi Guptha"

He arched an eye-brow and looked at her extended hand for a brief second and turned around to sit back in his car. (Arrogant Ass!)

"uh Arnav!" He stopped again and rolled his eyes.

"What do you want?!" he sounded oddly exasperated and annoyed as he turned around to face her again.

"Uhh--- you"you have a great car!"

"Right, I'm aware of it!" he nodded looking impatiently at her.

"Yeah, you"you even have nice bodyguards!"

He looked to his either side at the men who had been silently witnessing all of it and looked back at the weird girl in front of him. "Oh!" he exclaimed sarcastically.

"They are very much single, you can take them, do you want both or one would do?"

"What?????!!" she exclaimed looking horrified and stole a glance at the two strongly built men, their biceps peeping out of their black too short tee shirts. She gulped looking at them and back at those brown orbs which now held a teasing glint.

She let out a sigh through her pouted mouth and smiled a fake one again. "NO! I mean you have nice Bodygaurds; nice as in who take good care of you. It's really nice of them you know?"

"Like I said, you can take them" he said with a straight face while the men on his either side grinned expectedly.

"----no, they are nice as in normal nice not i-like-them-nice' just normal nice. Why do you even need bodyguards anyway? Do you have a terrorist threat or some political threat? Even Kareena has just one bodyguard in that movie, of course one Salman khan would be enough though---- but you are not even a girl like Kareena in Bodygaurd, are you?"I mean not that----"

He stepped dangerously close to her in the next instant and she stopped her blabber taking an immediate reflex step behind. She looked up widening her eyes and seen a new red sudden fury in his eyes which is when she realized what did she just utter.

"No!! I mean you are very much a guy, a very capable guy I must say" she started off again looking extremely uncomfortable trying desperately for some damage control. "Yeah, you are, see even you have pretty good biceps" (may be not as good as Salman Khan)

"Excuse me???"

"Your Biceps! They are not bad at all! See?" she involuntarily placed a hand on his arm and dramatically poked his hard muscle while looking at him from the corner of her eye. He then rolled his eyes and took a step behind crossing his hands against his chest.

"Impressive" he commented and she just stared at him blankly.

"Quite impressive, so what's the bet this time?"

"huh, what?"

"What's the bet??" he repeated like he is explaining to a 4 year old.

"Co---cofeee?" she mumbled.

"And in return?"

"Joining me in their dance performance for the Fresher's event"

"For the starters, they don't intend to join anyone in their dance troop, so there is a very good chance that they might have just played you cleverly-----"

"WHAT???" she exclaimed incredulously.

"Are you a fresher?"

"Ye"yes"

"Not bad at all!" he smirked and continued to stare at her.

"Excuse Me??"

"Nothing, shall we go then?"

"Where?"

"I thought you wanted to have coffee with me"

"You will have coffee with me?"

"Yes" he stated and walked ahead of her and stopped in his way when she dint move from her place.

"May be you could test your luck, they might really join you after all, because no one ever won such a bet of them, no one ever had this nerve to come and talk to me before and usually all their bets involve me and they win. Always" he explained and she kept staring at him with a slightly opened mouth.

"Are you coming?"

She broke out her trance and managed to give him a nod before silently following him inside.

Knock knock*****

**

"Sir?" his secretary popped her head into his cabin evidently disturbing his trance.

"What?" he snapped.

"I'm sorry sir, I have avoided all calls since afternoon like you said, but this one seems to be an important call--"

"Lisa, I said--"

"Sir, it's from the hospital."

"I've taken the message sir" she quickly added looking at his stilled stance. "Dr.Angad wanted you there in the evening" she spoke and waited for him to acknowledge while a minute later he looked up from his desk and nodded his head. She then quickly exited herself leaving him alone.
