TWO

Here's Chapter two, I hope you enjoy it! 😉

Zoya

The sunlight filtered into her gaping window and woke her from what had to be the most restful sleep she'd had for the longest time. She rose, stretched and smiled. They were docking in one of the island destinations today. Each island stop was supposed to last a scheduled five hours, giving all the people a chance to explore and make it back in time to leave. The rules were very clear that if anyone came late, the ship wasn't waiting. There was a schedule and basically if you snoozed, you lost.

She got dressed and made her way downstairs to the buffet for breakfast. There was a wide range of dishes available, some native to the Caribbean Islands they would visit on this trip. Zoya wasn't very hungry and there wasn't pizza but she spotted a powdered Danish roll. It was the last one. She hurriedly moved towards it, tongs in hand, when another hand appeared and snapped it up straight from the tongs she gripped the pastry with. "Hey!" Zoya griped. "That is my Danish."

"Not anymore." That voice. It was him. That stupid annoying and rather very handsome man from last night. Urgh . . . she so didn't need this right now. The guy was infuriating and in no way helping Zoya's motto for rest and relaxation. "You." She said darkly. "I should have known." She shook her head. "You just can't stay away can you? Following me around the boat, stealing my breakfast." She grabbed the Danish off his plate while she spoke, catching him off guard. His eyes widened and he leveled her with a hard glare. "Listen here, you rude girl . . . I have no time for your tantrums and your loud mouth. Give me back my breakfast."

Zoya stared at him wide-eyed, "Your breakfast?" she laughed disbelievingly. "It's my breakfast now and it was before you snatched it away. I'm not giving anything back." She started backing away from him with smug smile on her lips. Arrogant man! If anyone was eating this pastry it was her. As she was about to turn away from him, she tripped and her pastry went flipping off her plate and into the mop bucket of the man cleaning the area. She stared wide-eyed and open-mouthed at her breakfast lying in a bucket of dirty water.

She turned around and saw him, still standing there but now there was a smirk on his face. He yelled out loud enough for her to hear, "You're right. It's really your breakfast." Zoya didn't bother heading back to the buffet, her stomach felt queasy now and she was sure she couldn't stomach eating anything. She just turned away and headed out to the deck, taking in the beautiful crystal clear waters and the clear blue sky.

Not even a full day on this cruise ship and she already wished she'd never boarded . . .

Asad

Asad grabbed his sunglasses and essentials as the boat docked. He locked his cabin and got off with the other passengers. They'd landed in a small Caribbean island; he couldn't even remember the name. He wasn't paying attention. He wandered off in various directions taking in the local scenery; the culture of the island surrounded him. You couldn't miss the rich aroma of food in the air, the revelry of people dancing in the streets. The culture was very different here and very interesting. Not his scene but it was beautiful and fascinating nevertheless.

He pulled his sunglasses over his eyes to ward off the piercing heat of the sunlight. The place was humid, very hot. But when the wind blew through, it was the most refreshing feeling. Asad ended up on a beach, sitting in the sand and just watching. Watching the families playing in the waters and the children building sandcastles and just watching the tranquility of the ocean. The sea was calm, peaceful and he felt centered looking out at the subtle waves crashing against each other. The sun dimmed and the clouds went dark.

The sea took on a greyish hue from its previous sky blue colour. He sensed the rain in the air and wondered idly if the cruise ship would want to leave earlier. He abandoned the thought soon after as they had already set a time with the passengers and couldn't retract now because everyone was off exploring in their own directions. Some of the passengers had taken tour guides but he had wandered off on his own wanting to have his own experience.

As he stared off at the sea, a flash of colour caught his eyes through the grey of the coming storm. A woman standing at the water's edge staring off into the distance. She was wearing a long pink sundress with a long sleeved black cardigan covering her shoulders. Black long hair whipped around in the wind along with the edge of her pink dress. As her face turned up to the sky he wondered why she'd done that and then he felt the raindrops. It was a soft smattering, barely drizzling.

Asad couldn't draw his eyes from the woman, her arms now outstretched as the rain came down harder. She started laughing and jumping around in the rain. He smiled at the scene until she turned around and he caught sight of her face. His smile died on his lips. It was her. The trouble maker. The loud-mouth. He could go on forever with the names but he didn't. Trouble-maker or not she was beautiful with long black hair that fell almost to her waist that was presently slicked to her skull. Her dress was also plastered to her body but not indecently so. She was jumping up and down in the rain, her smile miles wide and a pretty, deep dimple made an appearance in her left cheek.

Asad found that he couldn't take his eyes from the scene playing out in front of him. This girl was so nothing like what he found attractive and he did find her attractive but he would never say that out loud, least of all to her, but he found her carefree nature, her independence and unconventional personality refreshing and frustrating at the same time. She wasn't like any other woman he'd met and not like any woman he'd choose for himself. She laughed shaking her head back and forth, raindrops flying off her long hair and laughter bubbled up his throat. Her laughter was infectious.

He checked his watch and realized that he'd been on this beach longer than he realized and the ship would be ready to go in a half hour. He started heading away from the beach when he realized that the girl was still playing in the rain and she might not know to get back. He huffed a deep breath not really wanting to approach her but did anyway out of courtesy.

"Excuse me." He said curtly. She turned around suddenly, her wet hair slapping him across his face, some damp strands sticking to his cheeks. He slowly lifted his hands and brushed them off. "Allah Miya! It's you! Again!" Asad was taken aback by her reaction though he shouldn't have been surprised. Trouble-maker through and through.

"What's your name?" She asked her hands on her hips. Staring at him with one raised brow. He folded his arms across his chest and stared right back at her. "It's Asad." He answered tersely. She nodded, "Is that like Madonna or do you have a last name?" she asked straight-faced. The gall of this young woman made Asad angry and he refused to answer her question. "Look, the ship is boarding in a little while; I just came to tell you in case you didn't know or whatever." He said and started to walk away.

"Hey." Asad heard her call him back. He turned halfway, looking at her expectantly. "Thanks. I'm sorry for being . . . anyways thanks." He nodded at her words and turned away again. "Oh and Asad." Hearing her say his name sent a thrill through him and he immediately squashed his reaction. He stopped but didn't turn. "My name is Zoya." He smiled and kept walking.

**~**~**~**~**~**

All the passengers boarded the ship and Asad saw the girl among the throng of people. He was glad . . . for her . . . making it back on time. Just out of courtesy, he reasoned. That evening he sat at one of the three restaurants on board the massive ship and quietly ate his food. All of a sudden someone plopped down in the seat in front of him. It was her again. Was he going to see her all through this trip? Every moment? He sighed.

"Hey." She said chirpily. "Can I join you?" She asked unfolding a cloth napkin and spreading it on her lap. He shook his head, "You're asking after you've already joined me?" He asked sullenly. "Sure why not." He said sarcastically. The waiter came over and she made her order immediately. The waiter returned moments later placing a glass of water in front of her.

"So . . ." she started looking at him expectantly her big exotic eyes were very expressive. "So what?" He asked brusquely stabbing at the food on his plate. That didn't deter her. It seemed this girl had a knack for saying things that others would probably keep to themselves. "Are you always like this?" She asked taking a sip of her water. "Like what?" He asked not even bothering to look at her. He didn't want to give her any importance. She was a stranger. A stranger with a loud mouth and a penchant for speaking her mind even when it was completely discourteous.

"Uncouth, arrogant, irritating. You name it, the list goes on." Asad's fork stopped mid-way to his mouth. He didn't have to listen to this. Who did this girl think she was? "Listen here, we aren't friends. Just because I did you a courtesy earlier doesn't mean we're friends." He said sharply. She sat back in her seat with her palms raised. Then she smirked and brought her hands to the table. "I never thought we were friends for a moment. You looked kinda' pitiful siting here all alone so I decided to do you a courtesy." She dragged out the last words bitterly.

Asad's eyes narrowed and he looked back at her, "I don't like you." He said slowly. "Good. I don't like you either and I'm not a pre-schooler so unless you have a problem, you don't need to speak that slowly. People might get the wrong idea about you." With those last words she got up and dropped her napkin on the table and left. Asad settled the bill and went after her. Insolent girl!

Don't you worry, things are about to get very interesting from here 😉 Do leave our comments! 😃
