| | | | Neeru Bajwa and Amit Sadh | The TV industry was recently abuzz with rumours about Amit Sadh and Neeru Bajwa's so-called break-up, but it has now come to light that the couple was living in wedded bliss for well over a year at their Yari Road residence. "They had a registered marriage with just a few close friends in attendance," says an actor who's worked with Amit.
Contractually bound
A source close to the couple spills the beans, saying, "Amit and Neeru married in January 2006, but hid that fact as Neeru had signed a three-film contract with Tips. The producers coerced her into hiding her marriage and even made it a part of her contract."
But Kumar Taurani of Tips is on the offensive. He says, "We have signed Neeru for several films since our Punjabi film, Dil Apna Punjabi (starring Bajwa), was a big hit. It's a long-term contract where we will promote, share revenue and even negotiate films for our stars with outside banners, like we've done for Amrita Rao, Shahid Kapoor and new comer Urvashi."
As for the clause which states that Neeru can't talk about her marriage till her films with Tips are complete, Taurani says, "There's nothing like that in our contract. It's her personal life. I have no problems with heroines getting married. Personally, I don't think Neeru is married."
Back-tracking
However, a source in Tips says, "In Bollywood, it's taboo for a heroine who is starting out to be living in with a man or worse still, being married. That's the reason why rumours of Neeru's break-up with Amit have been circulating for a while. She doesn't want her marriage to affect her career. If you've noticed, she has purposely kept away from anything to do with Big Boss and Amit."
When we spoke to Neeru, she was miffed about speaking openly about her relationship with Amit. "I don't see any reason why I should discuss my private life in public," she said.
Before entering Bigg Boss, there was speculation that Amit had broken up with Neeru only to patch up later. When asked if she was still dating Amit, Neeru said, "Everyone is watching Amit on Bigg Boss and knows exactly what is happening. What more do you want to know? Yes, we are still together."
When confronted about her secret marriage, she said, "Who told you this? We aren't married!"
Shifting equations
But a friend close to Neeru and Amit confirms, "It's true, they got married last year. It was a very private and simple affair attended by only close friends and friends. They've admitted that they can't disclose their marriage because of Neeru's film commitments.
Apparently, there's a clause in her contract that states she has to project a single status."
Another source close to Neeru added that she never broke up with Amit. "With Neeru shifting her priority to movies, the equation between them has changed dramatically. After her debut Punjabi film worked well, they decided to downplay the relationship."
Neeru admitted that she even spoke to Amit on New Year's eve. "I wished him a happy new year and he said things were well with him." As for plans of settling down with Amit in the future, she said, "Of course. But at the moment, work is my first priority. Amit and I understand each other really well. We don't give a f**k about what people have to say about us." |
