I've been roaming around the forum and reading random topics and comments surrounding TR, Taani leaving, her decision and the fact that she hasn't accepted Rey back into her life. And a couple of comments have interested me. It seems as though some feel that Taani hasn't forgiven Rey...or that she is punishing him in some way. I guess we all have a different take on things...and in this case, I have a different point of view, which I would like to share, if I may :)
Taani isn't angry with Rey anymore, nor is she punishing him. She has forgiven him...and she has also acknowledged that she still loves him. Taani's predicament largely stems from the fact that Taani believes she is now a different person. She has changed her priorities and her outlook towards life in general. Taani now thinks that Rey cannot fit in her life because of those changes.
A lot of people say, why is Rey being punished? In all honesty, he isn't. He is suffering...but not being punished. And I think there's a difference between the two. Rey is in pieces because he can't tolerate the distances. We're getting out the tissue boxes for him because we feel his pain! But Taani isn't doing this on purpose. Not for a second would I ever believe that she would hurt him intentionally.
If anyone is being punished, I would say it's Taani. First she had to endure the heartache of a break up...then she had to pick herself up and move on. She then had to prove herself to others, aswell as to herself. And when she finally felt that normality had been restored, Rey throws a bombshell her way. How is one supposed to react? Now she's back to square one of trying to rebuild herself knowing full well that there was more to the break up.
At the same time Taani is trying to bluff her own self about a number of things. Of course she can have both a career AND Rey in her life. But it looks like Taani's old foes are back to disrupt her thoughts. Vulnerability and insecurities are once again creeping in to her mind. Her old demons are back to haunt her and this time round they are stopping her from giving Rey another chance. Yes Taani has become independent, career driven and confident in her own decisions...but she is still vulnerable as ever.
I could write an entire Thesis on TaaRey and come out with a distinction 😆 but this is enough for now...
