CHAPTER 1
As the white soft snowflakes fell to the ground already covered in a few centimeters of snow, she waited outside the school. The black hair of hers that was not covered with her black hat blew with the wind. The wind was not a fierce wind but a calm one. Her hands cuddled up inside her black, fluffy gloves were seeking more protection from the cold in the pockets of her long black jacket. It was a pain to be standing on an icy pavement in 1 inch pencil heals, but she couldn't resist wearing them, she absolutely loved her black leather boots. A snowflake fell on her nose, and she removed her right had from the pocket to wipe it off. She tried to mange her blowing her in the process. Typical Toronto weather. She thought. It was true, the weather of Toronto changed so often it was unpredictable. Just a few minutes ago the sun had been shinning bright. At least isn't snowing like crazy. The snow of Toronto could be really crazy, but it was always warmer when it was snowing, yet she was freezing. Four years in this freeze yet she was cold.
RINGGGGGGGGG.
She looked at her watch. It was exactly 12:00 am, and like it had been for the past four years the bell rang at the proper time. It was her practice for 5 days of a week. Monday to Friday she would get out of the office at 11:30 and drive her jet black Nissan Altima to Markham Gateway Public School, reach there at 11:50, wait for five minutes and then leave with the love of her life to their house, that was an hour away. Then at 2:00 drive her love and herself back to work. What time they returned home in the evening was never certain.
"Hi, Bani. Cold isn't it?" Roshni Chopra asked as she came to a stop beside Bani.
"Sure is!" Bani replied as her teeth chattered. Roshni had been a very good friend of Bani's for the last four years now. She lived ten minutes away from Bani's house. Roshni was the first person Bani had opened up to since her arrival in Toronto. Roshni had helped her through the nine most difficult months of her life and was still helping her. Bani trusted her love in the hands of Roshni.
Laugher sounded the air as kids age 5 and younger came pouring out of the big grey doors. Children made a beeline to the person who was waiting for them. Nisha, Roshni's daughter made her way into her mother's arm.
"Hi Mummy! Hi Bani Aunty!" sticking her hand out to Bani.
"Hi Nisha" Bani smiled as she shook Nisha's tiny hand covered in a bright red glove.
"Gotta get going Bani. I have a meeting at work, can you pick Nisha up from daycare around 6?" Roshni asked.
"Sure," and Roshni headed off Nisha beside her.
Bani looked around, the area by now was empty, there were only a few parents still waiting for their children. Bani looked at her watch again. 12:05.
"MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" the love of her life was running towards Bani, with a huge smile on her face.
