Love your post. I agree, the story is called 'Saraswatichandra' for a reason...it's the love story of Kumud and Saras...not Kumud and Pramad. It's about the journey of love, trials and tribulations Kumud and Saras will have to go through..
Saras has always tried to be the perfect son, and as shown at the beginning of the show, the strain between his dad and him was visible thanks to Gumaan. Kumud changed it...but again, Gumaan played her cards. Saras is the type of guy who doesn't want to hurt anyone, he's been afraid of relationships all his life...and somewhere deep down he knew why his mother suicided, but it suddenly came out in the open and he had to vent out his feelings. He's never had the perfect illusion of a happy family...In that situation, how would he feel if he turned out to be a replica of his dad.,...and not give Kumud the happiness she deserves...so he thought it's better for her to be away from him...cause the only thing he would be able to give in life is pain. He's emotionally unstable atm and he's breaking off the marriage for Kumud's welfare. He's making a sacrifice for her.
As for Pramad, he's obviously going to be shown positive in the beggining, but as the story unravels, his dark secrets will come out as in the book :P And the saga of Kumud's troubled married life, and how Saras will help her through that will come out ;) It's a story worth watching.
