Chapter 15: Home, Sweet Home.
Khushi rang the doorbell. The maid opened the door. She entered the house. She looked around as if she had entered the house after years. She was almost in tears, partly because of nostalgia, though she had barely been away for a week, and partly because she never thought she would be back again. She loved this house, it was so grand yet homely, it was so beautiful yet simple. She went up to her room. It was the same. Perfect. Nothing had changed but she had. The first time when she had entered her room she called it boring, but today, she called it perfect, that my friends is change.
It was 1 pm. She knew she wouldn't find him at home. She went downstairs and decided to surprise Arnav by sending him lunch herself. She went to kitchen but the cook said, "Sir asked me not to send lunch today." "It's fine. I'll send it anyway." She said smiling. The cook smiled too maybe because she could sense the love, which was unknown to Khushi herself. She was excited as she put the lunch in the lunch box and gave it to the driver. She then went up to unpack. It was such a relief to be back home. She kept her clothes neatly into the cupboard, which took her quite a while. She was very happy and chirpy. She sat down on her bed and looked around at everything again. A smile crept upon her face. That day when she was leaving she had mixed feelings in her heart. She didn't know whether she would be happier here or at her own house. But today she just felt one thing, happiness or khushi. She had lunch and then sat in front of the TV. For the first time she switched on the news channel. Her eyes narrowed. They were broadcasting shots of the Uttarakhand floods. She was horrified to see the statistics. She sympathized with everyone stuck inside and what their families must be going through. Nature had done a cruel thing and it had certainly ruined millions of lives.

Arnav sat behind his desk and worked harder than ever. There was a knock and his secretary entered with his food. "I told the cook not to send lunch," he complained. His secretary kept his food on the desk and cleared the files. Arnav looked at it. Something was different. He took a bite of the roti after having dipped it in the dal. A huge smile broke out on his face. He tasted the sabji and his eyes widened. "She's back!" he remarked. He finished his lunch as fast as he could eat and then left. He sat in his car and the driver drove home. The driver was staring at his boss who had a wide smile playing on his lips. Arnav could not believe it. She was back. Finally. He wondered why she didn't tell him but then he realized again, she was back! It didn't matter why, what mattered was that she was back, she was back by his side.
He got off the car and rang the doorbell. The maid opened the door and he entered. He could here the TV so he went straight to the living room. There she was. Dressed in a simple suit and her eyebrows narrowed over her eyes. Her innocence shining in her eyes as she watched something with great interest. She suddenly looked up. "Hi!" she said with a wide smile. "Hi," Arnav said. He just froze, again. What should he say now? What the hell? He just couldn't think again. A mind freeze. He wanted her to come back so desperately but now that she was here he just couldn't speak? What the hell? "How are you--I mean--here so fast?" he asked. "I got on immediately after I read the newspaper," she said smiling. "Oh! You read it?" "Yes, and I would have preferred if you told me yourself." She stated, "But I am really, really proud of you!" she said. "Thanks." He said, a small smile playing on his lips. "So now you're going to be busy again?" she sadly pointed out. "Not so much now, but in a few weeks, yes." He said.
Flashback
"Khushi!" Buaji called out. Khushi came rushing out of the kitchen hearing Buaji shriek. "Arnav's interview is in the Business section, first page." She said handing the newspaper over to Khushi.
'Arnav Singh Raizada: I have it all'
Mumbai, 2nd July: ASR industries has been booming upwards for the last 5 years and it's almost there, covering vogue almost every week is ASR industry and it's owner, Mr. Raizada doesn't have much to say about it, 'I have it all. I couldn't wish for more.' He said when asked what his aims for this company was. It is known that Mr. Raizada likes to keep a low profile and says less but he doesn't need to when his work speaks instead. He also mentioned that in Fall'13 he will be launching a new line after receiving a tender he is applying for in the USA. If he get's that one he will officially be the no.1 fashion company in all of India and atleast and 8th in the world. 'A man can only dream,' people say but this man has turned it all upside down. He didn't have everything at the start but has earned it along the way, someone whom we can call a 'Self-made Man'... and so on.
Khushi read it throughout. There was a picture of him in his cabin. 'Why didn't he tell me himself? I should be there with him at this time. It's such an important deal for him. I wish I could help in some way.' Khushi thought. That is when she decided that she would leave right away.
Flashback
Khushi had butterflies in her stomach. "How did you know I was here?" she asked. "The food." He said smiling. Khushi blushed. She was so happy that he came home just to meet her. These small gestures showed how much she meant to him but at the same time made her realize how wrong she had been about him and how much she had hurt him in the past. It was wrong to hide the truth from him and now she knew it. She had apologized but she knew it wasn't enough, she didn't know what was. Arnav really cared for her, she knew that very well but just how much she was yet to find out and how would she? He never told her. He never expressed his love for her. Expression is a strong means of communication. It is the most important.
"How is Buaji?" he asked. "She is great." Khushi replied. Once again it was slightly awkward. Arnav had come home early for her but now what? What would they talk about? There was so much unsaid that there was lack of conversation. They wanted to say so much but were blank. They were itching to be together again but now speechless when they are. All they did was just look at each other. Arnav wished they could just talk on the phone. It was easier that way. "Arnav, do you know, Buaji is planning to open a restaurant?" she told him. "Really? That's amazing. You should open one too," he said. "I am not so good yet, I need some more practice." "Then get it Khushi. Join a class or a course or something? You need this!" he said. Khushi realized that it wasn't such a bad idea. She was usually bored in the afternoon with nothing to do and this would be a great thing. "I will find out." She said slowly. She had just come back and she needed time to let it sink in. "You would do great Khushi but please don't just do it for my sake. I just thought it would be a nice change." He said. "Yes, ofcourse and I love cooking!" "And I love eating the food you cook," he commented under his breath.
Arnav and Khushi spent some more time watching the news when suddenly Khushi realized the time and switched on Star world. "One tree hill!" she said as Arnav frowned. "What is that now?" he asked, clueless. "Arnav!" Khushi exclaimed. "Anyway, I am pretty sure you are going to love this one!" she said grinning. "Sure." Arnav said half-heartedly. Khushi laughed. After the episode was over, "You like it right?" she asked turning towards him but alas! Arnav was already asleep on the couch. "Oh great!" she said frowning. She got him a pillow and tried to place it behind his head but whenever she did that his head slid on the other side. She tried to take her hand around him and place it properly but he turned again and the pillow slipped out of her hands. Arnav's head rested on her arms and he seemed comfortable. Khushi looked at him and then after a few seconds decided not to move. She was trying to reach across to the pillow on the other end of the couch when Arnav's eyes opened and his head shot up. He stiffened a little and then said, "I don't know when I fell asleep." "If you didn't like it you could have just told me." "But you like it so much!" He said trying to smile. "Huh. It's okay, we could have seen something you like!" she said. "I don't watch much on TV except for news." "Yes, I know." "What happened to your other TV show? I liked that one better!" he said. "At the moment, they are on season break." She said. "Oh," he said.
Arnav and Khushi sat in the room talking. It was so nice talking without any awkwardness. They had started opening up and things were looking good between the two. Arnav was trying as hard as he could to open up to Khushi. He truly wanted to give it a shot. Khushi on the other hand was just happy to be home. She wanted to spend her life with Arnav, just like this.
Their night was perfect, they slept peacefully and Arnav kept looking at his beautiful wife as she shut her eyes and sleep dawned in on her. He just couldn't take his eyes off.
