CHAPTER 13
ASHA,AKSHAY,SID and ME were all in the FILM CITY for the shoot.
By the end of day 1 on the set of CARNIVAL OF LUST, I found I was grateful that my father had steered me toward a linguistics job rat5her than acting. I was so exhausted with the shoot. I was ready to head back to TAJ MAHAL hotel and fill out an application to be a maid.
My body ached from the hours of endless aerial aerobics and splits and back and front walkovers and side crab crawls.
I'd concluded that AKSHAY was a certifiable. Insane. No wonder MAMTA called off the wedding. The man was really a perfectionist and demanding.
1 example of AKSHAY's insane attitude was when we shot a scene on the top of the FERRIS WHEEL. This was nice until I discovered that I was to stand on my head on the top of those seats or spring from my hands to come bouncing off the seat just below. He loved the shots of me staring in terror at the huge foam mattress on the ground placed there to catch some crazy NRI actress. And what did he's beloved MAMTA did—she and her costar, MR. WALIA mime singing love songs underneath me on the solid ground. Then if I crashed, no one would notice.
It was now 7pm and SID had gone to AKSHAY's for a much needed shower. MAMTA had whisked me into her car. We were heading for her place for some extensive cleaning. If the water at MAMTA's wasn't 2nd-degree-burn-level hot, I planned to head for the nearest bazaar, buy a long knife and personally kill MAMTA's plumber. First, though, I'd stop at AKSHAY's to carve up SID for getting me into this movie business.
I closed my eyes when MAMTA nearly plowed into 3 bicycle riders in suits who were trying to avoid her convertible by staying on the side of the road. All 3 of whom began screaming at her as they found themselves in the dirt after she passed.
I began to think about what little tricks AKSHAY had in store for tomorrow's shoot. MAMTA, wisely, stayed silent. She'd had a fairly easy days. She and JAI WALIA, her costar, had been on terra firma, gazing into each other's eyes and warbling along with recorded music.
MAMTA broke her silence. "Where do u suppose SID is going tomorrow?"
I sighed. "Lord knows. SID said it has something to do with SHIVA's DIVA. Which leaves me alone tom with AKSHAY ji at mercy."
MAMTA giggled. "he is a pain,isn't he? But his movies win awards like crazy. So what's up with u and SID?"
Memory of BIPASHA BASU overtake my senses. I told her about BIPASHA the diva na dabout finding that picture of her posing with SID.
MAMTA avoided crashing into a stall at the side of the road by a foot. Her laughter become so harsh she couldn't see.
She grinned. "Sorry for that yaar. I was just thinking about u an SID. U 2 people r nuts for each other. I don't know who is this BIPASHA, but if SID met her at a restaurant with u sitting at a table nearby, it isn't likely they're going out."
She turned her head and stared at me. Not a wise move given the way she drove. I yelled, "Watch the road!" as I hugged the sides of this passenger seats and stared out into the streets of BOMBAY. And asked, "r u saying that I'm jealous with BIPASHA ji. Pls. uh give me a break. Can we stop this discussion about SID and that girl, MAMTA ji?"
"Just for now, VIDYA ji. But as u may have already guessed, I'm a nosy little girl. So expect the topic to come up again. and my perception on u and SID: u 2 are 2 idiots nuts about each other and too stupid to admit it." She said while laughing.
I think she guessed that right. "and what about u and AKSHAY, since we're on the subject of limping idiots. When do I find out what's the deal with the pair of u?"
She pursed her lips and said. "Later."
My classes have started today—so I'll update on WEDNESDAY—
