Chapter 6-
Sharon was deep into her thoughts until the doorbell rang. She wiped her face with her arms to look normal and walked to the door. She opened the door to see Jennifer. She looked at Sharon who had on a fake smile in which Jennifer believed. Jennifer was jolly as she walked in. She slouched onto one of the beanbags that were in the living room. She motioned to Sharon to sit.
Sharon walked over to the beanbag next to Jennifer. Jennifer began speaking, "So, how do you know Swayam and his friends?" Sharon looked at Jennifer and was confused.
"I used to live in Mumbai, remember I told you?" Jennifer nodded in acceptance. "Well I used to go to St. Louis, where they used to go. They are the D3 dance team." Jennifer looked confused. "Well, many years back, I was the college diva, as in everybody looked up to me and called me Sharon, the diva. I am a dancer, and I am sorry for not telling you before." Jennifer didn't know what to do. Four years and this had been a secret to her. "I was part of a team called the Dazzlers and Swayam was part of the Weaklings. We had many fights, as the weaklings were poor and the dazzlers were rich. But then we found out how rich Swayam was but he just never wanted to be a Dazzler.
But yes, and then we became one. The college went against our fights and everyone in the college had to get rid of the social class lines. We were then called the Louians. Slowly, we all became friends. No, correction, best friends. We got so close we all were best friends." Sharon knew by Jennifer's expression that she liked him but Jennifer had the right to know the truth.
Sharon proceeded with her story. "Me and Swayam. Huh! What do I say about us? We got close. I mean so close that..." She took a deep breath and turned away from Jennifer. She couldn't. "I mean I never liked him. At least in the start I didn't. Swayam, though, never gave up on me. He did everything to make me feel special. And then one day, he asked me out but I turned him down. I realized it was wrong and I realized what I felt for him. Our love was equal from both sides. Then I went to him and suggested a trial relationship, just to see how well things would turn out if we dated.
He happily accepted the idea of a trial relationship. Of course he would. He said that he will make me fall in love with him. And he was right, because I fell for him completely. And then one day, I went to my dad because I had fainted while doing a performance. There I discovered I had asthma. When I got back to Mumbai with my friends, I broke up with Swayam because I had made a promise that just like dance would stay together we would too. But what was the point of staying with him if I couldn't dance. But when he found out I had asthma, he was the sweetest. He took care of me every time." She paused to let Jennifer take everything in.
Sharon took a deep breath. "And then we finally got back together. I knew it would happen. We were the happiest. Suddenly, four years ago, my dad called me to Delhi again. I didn't know the reason this time. I told Swayam that I would be back as soon as possible. But instead, the total opposite happened. My dad had found out about me dating Swayam. He told me something about Swayam being exactly like his father. I have no idea what he meant by this. My dad forced me to come here in New York. I didn't want to leave Swayam but my dad bought the tickets and everything.
I was so sad. It was the worst thing that had ever happened. My dad made me promise that I would not go back until he said. I couldn't deny him. He was my father after all. So I quietly came here and had to bear the pain of leaving behind all my friends. And then the rest you know." Sharon glanced at Jennifer, who was looking at her, dumb-mouthed. She didn't know what to say.
Jennifer finally figured out what to say. "So you and Swayam...like together?" Sharon nodded.
"Look," Sharon replied. "See, I know Jennifer, I know you like him. If I knew it was he you liked, then I would've told you earlier." Jennifer shook her head.
"No Sharon, don't. It's fine. Anyways, I'm pretty sure he likes you still." Sharon saw the grief in Jennifer's eyes and wished that none of this ever happened. She wanted to reverse it all, as she just broke both, Swayam and Jennifer's heart. She knew that doing this was terrible but she just wanted Swayam to know that she was forced to and had no other choice. Her boyfriend, she missed him all this time but he thinks opposite. She just wanted everything to be normal again. Her thoughts were interrupted by her cell phone ringtone. Her ringtone was Pehla Nasha's music, as it reminded her of Swayam and all their good times.
She picked up the phone and looked at it. It was an unknown number. She cleared her throat and answered the call. "Hello?" She said to the receiver. Her jaw dropped as she heard the person on the other side of the call speak.
