A year of unprecedented success - Debojit Saha resolves to outdo himself in every performance and emerge as a voice to remember | ||
Voice of India Debojit Saha looks back on 2006 and ahead to a year full of promises... A very happy New Year, dear readers. As I look back at the year gone by, I must confess that 2006 was an absolutely roller-coaster ride for me. It was a year that changed my life forever. I began 2006 as one of the finalists of Zee TV's popular musical reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. And my fans helped me win the contest. I had never, ever, even in my wildest dreams, thought of winning the contest. But what followed was even better than my dreams. Overnight I was a star — signing autographs, doing concerts, cutting an album and singing for Assamese films. Now I am busy shooting for ZEE Bangla's Bengali version of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. I am the anchor of the show. It is still difficult for me to believe that I am hosting the same show, where only a year back I was a contestant. Perhaps this is destiny. The job is demanding. I have to speak and sing and coordinate with the participants and judges. But I am enjoying my work and receiving good feedback from my fans, singers and the music fraternity. Recently, singer Shaan, who was the anchor for ZEE TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, called me and congratulated me on my work. Those words are all I need to try and perform better each time. And trust me, it's not an easy job. To be able speak well and speak well spontaneously requires a lot of honing and homework. It is a skill I am still trying to acquire and I must thank the entire team of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa for helping and supporting me constantly in my endeavour. But the time I enjoy most while doing the show is when I get an opportunity to interact with the audience. It's the only time I get to speak without my anchor's mantle. As far as New Year resolutions are concerned, this year I intend to sing better and do some playback work. I have already spoken to a few stalwarts in the Bollywood music industry and have also held musical sessions with them. Let's see how things work out. I will devote myself entirely to hone my singing skills. I yearn to do better and better with every performance. Actually, I believe that there is always a scope to outdo one's own performance. I also want to develop a unique style, like Kishore Kumar. I am die-hard fan of his. I dream to have a classic, timeless voice like his — a voice that appeals to the young and old alike. I hope when I will have grandchildren of my own, they will be as crazy about my songs as the current generation. |
