Pariyon ki nagri se aayi - A special OS for a special sister
(this OS is dedicated to Anam di as a birthday gift from meš³..don't beat me up because its not a Manveer OS, Its a story involving di and her favorite 'Yuvraj'...please read)
Once upon a time in a faraway land there was a couple who were childless even after 5 years of marriage. They loved children very much and wished for a small cherub of their own. But god was yet to shine his blessing on them and the lady used to spend hours crying for a kid. They were very kind hearted and no one ever heard a scorned word from them. One day they were taking a stroll in their farm after dinner when they saw a shooting star in the sky.
"God, please grant me a child.. a small angel to hold in my arms..to give the sad a reason to smile" The couple prayed to god with folded arms. Their eyes were closed and they didn't notice that the light of the shooting star had shined itself on their faces.
Exactly a week later the wife noticed that she was short of firewood for cooking and decided to bring some from the nearby forest. She picked up her axe and ventured into the woods. There was a majestic tree spreading its huge branches around and she lifted her axe to cut a branch for herself. But then she heard a small feeble voice.
"Please don't cut the branch o kind lady; my children will lose their home if you cut the branch.." a small sparrow was speaking to her.
She let the axe fall to the ground, how could she let any child lose its home? She would go hungry but wouldn't steal anyone's happiness.
Then she heard one more sound; A happy gurgle, a small voice. She followed the sound and saw the most beautiful gift of god to human kind; a baby. She was lying on the bed of grass and was flailing her arms as if trying to touch the skies. Her big toe was in her mouth and she looked undeniably cute. Her pink cheeks and fair complexion could melt any cynic's heart. The lady couldn't resist taking her in arms. She looked around to see if the child's mother was anywhere around but she could see no one. Finally god had heard her prayers and blessed her with a child.
She cooed to the child and cuddled it. Suddenly the angel in her arms let out a wail scrunching her pink lips and shedding a small tear from her eyes. "oh my baby, you must be hungry, come my darling..i will feed you milk and never will you shed a tear again" she promised her hugging her to her bosom.
As she traced her steps back home, the evil witch hiding in a nearby bush smiled. A rose bush nearby withered on hearing her laughter, such was her black magic. The baby was not any ordinary baby but the daughter of a Fairy and an angel from heaven. The witch had imprisoned the baby's parents and thrown them into dark dungeons. She had sealed the dungeons door's with magic and the prophecy was that when the baby fairy met her prince at 18 years of age, the doors would automatically open and her parents will be free. But the witch had kidnapped the baby and left her alone in human land so that she would never realize who she was and the prophecy never comes true.
The kind woman took the baby girl home and started raising her as their own daughter. The child won the hearts of everyone who met her and enveloped all in the blanket of love. Her mother could not bear a moment alone without her and her father gave her everything she wished for. They named the child as 'Princess' because she was exactly that. She had brown colored eyes and had coal black hair that made her look like exactly like her fairy mother. When Princess was five years old, the witch again decided to visit human land and visited her home. She had expected the baby to suffer at the hands of humans but she was wrong. In a fit of rage the evil woman cursed a nearby tree and the entire land became bereft of any greenery.
"No! no..i would not let this happen..i have to do something'I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!" the witch threw back her head and yelled at the sky. Accordingly she transformed herself into a human woman and disguised herself as a poor housemaid. Princess was growing up and her mother was not able to contain the child alone. Her childhood mischief's often tired her and she welcomed the poor maid into her home to take care of the child. The witch's plan was taking shape slowly and within a week of her entry into their house, the child's mother fell ill. Doctors came from unheard lands to cure her but the witch's magic could not be reversed by anyone. Princess changed from a happy child to a sad one since that day. She would keep awake at nights and pray to invisible gods to make her mother well again. She was unaware that she herself had the cure to witch's evil magic. One day before going to sleep, she sat by her room window and looked at the clear sky outside. Then her eyes fell on a figure playing outside. She jumped the bed room window and went outside to investigate herself to see who it was. It was a small boy of her age; alas he had two wings attached to his back!
Princess giggled on seeing him. He was the most handsome boy she had ever seen.
"How dare you laugh at me?" the boy questioned her. "I'm not laughing at you, what are those white things at your back?' she questioned him.
He looked at her back and replied "those are given to me by mom and dad, so that I could fly to skies and faraway places"
Princess thought of her own parents who were in difficulty at this time and a tear came out of her eyes. "don't cry Princess, I will give you my wings..Please don't cry" the boy caressed her brow.
"no..i can't take them, mom dad have taught me never to desire for things that belong to others" Princess told him.
It was nearly dawn so the boy had to leave but he promised her that he would visit her again. Next day after supper, princess kneeled in front of the window and started praying "oh god, please grant me two wings exactly like the boy so that I too could fly and go to faraway lands and find a medicine for my mother"
When her prayers were finished, two wings had appeared on her little back and the child danced in joy. The boy waited for her in the same place again and she proudly showed him her wings. He held her hands and they danced together under the moon light. He taught her to flap her wings and fly in the skies. Princess's wings disappeared during the day and would appear only at the night. Yuvraj as that boys name was, never missed a day and they would spend every night together. One day while they were playing under the stars, Princess saw a tiny rabbit shivering in the cold. Its leg was bleeding and a thorn was pricking its leg.
She picked the poor rabbit and extracted the thorn but the bleeding wouldn't stop. Then a strange thing happened. Yuvraj gently took the rabbit from her hand and placed his arm on Rabbits injured paw. A light glowed on its wound and when he lifted his hand, the wound had vanished. Princess was very excited and she let the rabbit on the ground and it went away hopping merrily.
"What did you just do? You made rabbits boo boo disappear?" she questioned him.
"You can do it too if you want to" Yuvraj told her.
Next day Princess went to her mother's bed and decided to try out the magic Yuvraj had taught her. The witch who was sure that no one can cure her magic had been sleeping peacefully in a corner. Princess ran her small hands over her mother's limp body and sure enough a light glowed on her body where Princess's hand touched her. The kind woman sat up and she wasn't ill anymore. The witch's spell had been broken and Princess jumped up and down seeing her mother hale and hearty. Of course the witch wasn't happy but she faked her happiness. She had realized that the fairy's magic had been gifted to the child as well and the prophecy could very well come true if this went on anymore.
That night witch made herself invisible and kept a watch on the child only to discover she had been meeting the fairy kingdom's little prince Yuvraj almost every night. When Princess went to sleep that night, the witch cast her magic spell on little prince and he instantly transformed into a cactus plant in Princess's garden.
Next day, princess waited and waited for her dearest friend, but he never came. This went on and on for months but he never visited her again. She had noticed the cactus plant in her garden and she used to lovingly tend to it every day. She used to pray god every night with the following words "dear god, please take care of my dearest friend Yuvraj..bless him with happiness wherever he is"
One year passed thus and one fine day her mother announced that she was going to be a big sister very soon. Her mother was going to have another baby and Princess's face glowed in happiness. Nine months passed in a jiffy and her mother bore a girl child on a blessed night. Years passed and both girls grew up together, sharing their joys, happiness, sorrows and secrets together. Princess was the kindest sister anyone could get and her little sister used to annoy her to no end. Princess never lost her temper and adored the kid. Princess was the apple of everyone's eyes in that village and there was no one in the village who didn't love her. She never forgot her friend who had helped her to discover her hidden talents and every day he found a place in her prayers. The cactus plant in her garden had grown big as she had grown. She used her healing powers to cure anyone in need of it and they considered her a blessing in their lives.
Wheels of time rolled by and then came the day of prophecy. Tomorrow was the princess's eighteenth birthday and the witch was almost sure that she had succeeded in her plans. On the eve of the day prior to her birthday, princess was sitting in the swing in the garden when her 11 year old naughty sister strolled into the garden. She was so naughty that she started plucking the leaves of the plants.
"Please don't hurt the plants" Princess told her.
The girl started running across the garden in her childhood mischief and Princess was forced to run behind her lest she hurt herself. The girls in the process of running didn't notice that they had crossed out into the forest and had lost their way. Princess caught hold of her sister but they were confused with the way to return back home. They weren't scared and they were determined to find the way out. It grew dark and soon blackness descended on earth. They walked and walked and finally came across a large and magnificent palace that had become dilapidated due to passage of time.
"Listen o princess, I'm going to narrate you a tale never heard" a chirpy voice announced as they stepped inside the huge gate of the palace. It was the same sparrow the kind lady had rescued when she had found Princess in the forest.
"Behind the doors of mansion lie your creator's o young lady, morning dew shall dissolve the shackles and a fairy shall meet her prince" The sparrow sang.
"Oh sweet Sparrow please be kind enough to explain the riddle to me" Princess asked the sparrow.
The small bird explained her in detail how the evil witch had stolen her from her real parents and left her between humans. Her parents were tied up behind the doors of the magic palace and only Princess had the powers to free them. She needed to collect all the dew that fell in her garden and sprinkle it on the doors of palace to free her parents; that too before her eighteenth birthday passed. Otherwise the whole palace would disintegrate taking her parents with it. The sparrow also informed her that the little boy she had met during her childhood was no ordinary boy but the one she was meant to marry. The Prince of fairy kingdom, Yuvraj. He had been reduced to a thorny plant in her garden and he would come to life on the same day as her birthday but on one condition. He needed to be fed the dew that fell during the night. Otherwise he would wither away next day and die. Tears rolled from Princess's beautiful eyes plunging the weather in sorrow. She had to make the choice between finding the love of her life and rescuing her parents. After narrating the tale the sparrow flew away wishing her luck. Both the sisters cried together for the fate god had blessed them with.
As they walked their way home, Princess had decided what she would do. Though she had never met her parents, she knew it was a mother's love that had found her in forest all alone and made her this big. With her heart heavy like stone she reached home. Her tears flew nonstop when she saw the cactus plant. The two girls could not breathe out a word of their mission to anyone and they had only this night to carry out their task. The little sister had promised to sit with her all night and both girls collected all the dew in a glass bottle and as time passed their tears too got added to it. At midnight Princess's little sister saw a shooting star and silently wished for a miracle to appear in her beloved sister's life. Unknown to her, god heard her prayers and smiled on them. It was time for them to leave for the palace and Princess bid adieu to her prince whom she was sure, she would never see again.
They turned their backs and walked towards the palace finding their way in the dark. The witch was feeling fully helpless and irritated and in a fit of rage she jumped into the kitchen hearth and disappeared in a puff of smoke. It started raining that day and a huge deluge followed.
Princess and her little sister reached the palace and before sprinkling the water Princess closed her eyes and recited a small prayer to god. Then she completed the ritual the sparrow had told her and there was a big sound. "Boom!" and the doors opened. The Princess's parents were set free from witch's magic and she hugged them in relief. She told them about how the witch had destroyed all peace in her life and also about Yuvraj. Then came the time when they needed to leave for their true abode, the fairy land in faraway skies.
When Princess got home to say good bye to her foster parents, a surprise waited her. A unicorn stood there waiting for her. Behind the huge horse stood the love of her life, Yuvraj. He opened his arms for her and she flew into it forgetting all her pain, uncertainties everything. He explained her how after the witch died, it had rained all night and that revived him. Life couldn't get more beautiful than this. The Prince took her hand and they flew to Fairyland to meet Yuvraj's parents. No they hadn't forgotten the little sister and she too was given a pair of wings to fly with them.
The Prince was very soon crowned as the king of Fairyland and they all lived together happily ever after.
