MILAN- The Final Destination
PART- 108
NOTE: Whole grey text is flashback/past... Bold text is Shreya's letter, in between the text inside brackets are Geet's thoughts.
After bathing Geet checked on Jia once who was peacefully asleep n went downstairs to prepare breakfast for everyone and then thought to come back.
Rohan n Dadimaa looked at Geet while she sat dull n mourning at the breakfast table playing with her food.
Beta aap kuch kha nai rai? Geet didn't even hear. Geet'.
Ji' kya? Geet asked apologetically.
Humne kaha ke aap kuch kha kyu nai rai?
Wo mera man nai hai dadimaa.
Nai beta breakfast is important. Chaliye finish kijiye.
Hmm' She made a baby face but ate her breakfast.
Mommy where is Daddy? Jia asked her voice shrill.
Geet had no other option but to inform Jia of her father's trip. Jia, Daddy has gone for a trip?
Prip?
Oh no this is going to be difficult. Jia had big-big tears in her eyes. Haan baby Daddy ko office ka kaam tha na issliye unh'
Jia started crying instantly. Daddy left me. Jia been good. Jia will sleep at night. Between sobs her words were shaky. I will not eat brownlate. Daddy chahiye. Geet hugged Jia to her chest. Daddy will come soon dear. He has important work tabhi gaye na. He will come. Her words had no effect on the little girl. Jia just knew that her Daddy was not there and whenever he wasn't there she felt scared that she did something wrong n he had gone away or would send her away. Jia ko' nanu'. ke paas nai jana'. hai. Jia' be'good.
Geet became hell worried. She tried many ways but nothing worked. No matter what she did she couldn't calm Jia down. She was continuously crying n asking for Maan. At last Dadimaa came to Geet's rescue. Jia why are you not eating?
Daddy left Jia. She sobbed, her nose, cheeks red and hairs messy and she hadn't had a single bite since morning.
No baby Daddy hasn't. Daddu loves you.
Jia lub Daddy so much but he angry. She squeezed her eyes n more tears leaked.
Who said he is angry? He will call you.
He will? She asked taking a break from her crying spree.
Yes. But only after you eat this.
Jia quickly wiped her tears. Otey' There was a relieved smile on her face. Daddy fall karenge. She assured Geet n Dadimaa put a spoonful into her mouth. Geet bte aap apne kamre me jaakar araam kariye.
Nai Dadimaa'.
Geet aap jayegi hum Jia ko dekh lenge. Geet looked hell exhausted-sick-so Dadimaa wanted her to take rest. Without Maan both his girls were in disarray. Geet nodded absently n walked towards her room, like there was no life in her which was almost true. While opening her room door she heard shuffling sound.
Rohan what are you doing? She asked while he rummaged through her drawers.
Was getting bored so' Gosh yaar you eat so many meds. No wonder tumhe bhuk nai lagti' Rohan said busy in his quest. Geet was dumb struck as he pulled the letter. Yeh kya hai' He couldn't finish because Geet possessively snatched the letter from his hand, her heart beating like drums. Woah Geet, aisa kya hai usme?
Kuch nai' She snapped n Rohan furrowed his brows. Touchy, huh? Okay leave it. By the way what happened to you it seems you have walked out of grave. He joked.
Geet kept the letter safely inside the cupboard. When she turned around Rohan was astonished to see tears in her eyes. I was kidding. You look just fine.
Geet shook her head rapidly. I am sorry. I shouldn't talk to you so rudely.
Rudely'? Gawd Geet. I told you na you don't have to say sorry all the time. It's not necessary to please everyone every time. Rohan had no clue what was her problem. May be because Maan wasn't there she was on edge but then when she ever thought before crying' it had become her habit.
Rohan stood up. Come on we will go out. He held her hand, she took it back. Nai' Are nai, no' your fav words? Na.. I mean' I know what you mean.
Rohan grabbed his camera from his room n brought her out into the garden. What are we going to do?
Capture moments.
When Geet came back to her room n dark had nearly fallen. She gazed at the camara in her hands. Rohan had said it was his first professional camera; he had purchased it with his own pocket money n Maan has also contributed a little but he also took back his money with interest. Geet smiled, Maan was constantly on her mind and she was dying to read the whole letter, to know what had happened, what Shreya meant by the sins' was she referring to marrying Maan when she knew he wasn't in love with her or was there more to it. And, she wanted to know when Maan gave up, when he accepted Shreya, when he moved on.
But she couldn't deny that though Rohan had forced her to go out she enjoyed their photography session. She needed a break. The air was fresh n Rohan had beautiful way of looking at things. With his camera he could make a simple bird or tree look magnificent. He taught her the usage of direction of light and shades to get the perfect shot. How much to zoom in, various angels and if a picture would look more good in color or black and white. When she took a picture of a flower with a dew drop on it, he praised her work n as a prize gave her his camera. Because the camera was his first it wasn't that complicated n was comparatively easier to use.
She felt so good that time. It was after a long while she did something' creative, just for fun, n not because she had to do it.
Finally after completing all the work Geet came back to her room at night. Jia had fallen asleep. She was tired after all the crying; Maan had called so she ate dinner without much fussing n slept off. Geet pulled out the letter from her cupboard n only she knew what went through her when she touched the sheet of paper. She didn't read it there only but went to her room made by Maan and sat on her fluffy pink bed, in between the stuffed toys.
Hours and days and weeks passed, nothing changed between us while Maan's condition was becoming worse. Entire day he spent in office, would come home late n I didn't know where he spent his nights, it was certainly not our room. It was hell for me. I cooked for him every day and waited for him every night but he paid no attention. He said he needed time but how much more. My patience was wearing thin. I had nothing to do; I didn't want to do anything else.
Each of my second went in thinking ways to talk to him, make him see what I felt for him, that I wasn't that worthless as he thought me to be. He had started drinking too. Dadimaa was worried like me but Maan just wouldn't let anybody into his life.
A woman has her own needs, you would understand Geet. Shreya wiped the wetness on her cheeks; she wished that Geet would understand. Someone should understand' whatever she did was her helplessness. She wasn't a bad person n she loved him. In that moment she needed someone but no one was there for her so she felt the need to explain her misery' it all came out through the ink on the letter. I also needed love. I tried all possible means. At several occasions I even tried to seduce him, gave him hints thinking that if we crossed that road then maybe he would notice that he had a wife n had some responsibilities towards her also.
He didn't though. Shreya remembered all those sleepless nights when she waited for him-how agonizing that time was, when she planned what she should do the next, conjured up hope that tomorrow would be different, would mark a new start. The initial days of their marriage were gone but still not much was lost. She started writing again. He didn't notice anything. How would he. He wasn't there. Maan was living in some other world, surrounded by his own sorrows. He was detached to everything else.
And he had changed completely. I didn't know this Maan. Not anymore.
(Geet mind wandered back to the Maan she had met after her marriage to him. How ruthless he was then, had accused her so cruelly. Now she knew the reason, the creator of that Maan was no one else then she herself. All that Shreya suffered n Maan went through was because of her one mistake.)
He wasn't anymore the Maan that I admired, the understanding, compassionate and funny man had died at some point of time. He had become rude so much so that a word he didn't spoke without shouting at me. He would drink, ignore not just me but Dadimaa also. The worst part he didn't care. It was like there was no reason left for him to be alive. He didn't want to live. I saw it that night.
I thought he wasn't home n it was past mid night. I couldn't sleep n decided to go to the roof. That was when I heard voices from your room. Before I had never given any attention to that room, there were a number of rooms that were left locked in the mansion n I thought it was one of them. The door was left ajar a bit n I peeked inside, found him in there n for first time got the glimpse of his world. It was filled with pain, loads of pain. It overshadowed all that I felt. Just standing there I felt the harsh glum. In the almost dark room he was alone, drunk again. His pants were that of a defeated man. And there were gashes on his bare torso. He had beaten himself. The wish was immense but she could never forget that scene, couldn't push it out of her mind. He raised the belt in his hand but couldn't beat himself anymore n slumped on the bed. That was his escape, his love for you Geet. And I was jealous. You were not there but I was. How could he still love you so insanely? I never even believed such love even existed but it did. Why wasn't it for me?
Shreya ran into the room. There was blood on the sheets n when she touched his shoulder he hissed with pain. Shreya's heart ached. Maan.. yeh kya kar rahe ho tum? She cried and he looked up. His eyes lit up.
Geet? He pulled her down. Yeh tum ho? He cupped her cheeks. Mujhe pata tha ek din tum aaogi. He kissed her face, oh god he felt so happy. His Geet had to finally come back. His love brought her back. I love you Geet. I love you so much.
Shreya cried. He was touching her, confessing his love, pity she wasn't the girl for whom all this was. Maan kissed all over her face. I love you Geet. Dare you go away from me ever again. He nuzzled her neck n Shreya basked into the sensations. Her heart was for craving for this, for his love. For once, just once she wanted to feel his affection. The immeasurable love that every girl wishes for from a man, she wanted that from her husband, there was nothing wrong with that. She nodded n Maan's eyes swam with unshed tears. They were of happiness. I can't believe it. You are here with me. Why did you go?
For him, she was even ready to disregard herself n become someone else. Just-for once-she at least deserved this much. I am here Maan. I will never go again. He pulled her into him again while his hand roamed on her body, clutched her hairs.
