A Bollywood babe-off that like the Eastern epic tales of love, lust, betrayal and happy endings, may prove to be a good old fashioned fight for the title of India's hottest film siren. Meet Aishwarya Rai's newest competition: Bipasha Basu.

You may be in Detroit, Dublin or Dubai, but trust us, with the likes of George Clooney, one of the West's most famous and handsome male leads seriously talking about producing and starring in a Bollywood extravaganzas, you just may be getting to know these female stars as easily as Julia Roberts or Kate Winslet.

In 2005, a Kolkata girl won the title of India's Most Desirable Woman - Bipasha Basu. Her stats are a stately five feet eight inches tall, with dark brown eyes that won this her the title over Miss World and Queen o' Bollywood Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Miss Universal Sushmita Sen and several other notable Bollywood actress.

Basu started her career as a model, but the brainy beauty that she was, she also wanted to study medicine or accounting.

Beauty won over brains and the film bug beckoned. Bipasha Basu bypassed modelling fashion gigs and went into acting, her debut film 'Ajnabee' (2001) was successful by "Bolly" standards.

Similar to "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria, Basu's childhood was marred by thoughts that she was ugly because of her darker complected skin. Eva was often teased over the same issues.

Time will tell if Basu has the chops to go the distance with Bollywood bombshell Rai, and if she will garner the legions of fans that "Ash" has accumulated during her career.

In the recent release of "Dhoom 2," Bipasha sang in the song "My name is Ali." She co-starred with Hrithik and Aishwarya Rai for the first time.

so guys wat do u think... is bipasha competition for aishwarya.... or no?

in my opinion nowadays bipasha is performing very nicely in her films... she even won the GIFA award 4 best actress.... she is also becoming competition for every actress... i think now bips will show us her true talent... and as far as ash is considered, i think there r actresses out there who have passed ash by a mile thru their acting and films from the past few years, so in my opinion ash is not considered amongst the top ryt now in the acting category and her films r the evidence. ( hope no on gets offended but i think ash isnt really showing the best of acting skills)

I agree mumtaz!... Even though bips came after ash but she has prooved that she is a better actress than her 😳 .... i really liked her acting in Raaz 😳 😳 .... If u talk about her real life,she splitted up with dino but they are still friends...whereas ash dumps her boyfriend's(salman,vivek) every 1 year or so and then she go after someone else ... (i really feel sorry for abhishek) 😕

she is not talking about luks or how hot she is....she is talking about " acting skills" .......... well i dont think ash was ever in competition for acting...But she was always in competition for controversies with other actresses..

i admire ash very much as a person..why?
after being blacklisted by srk( and with him johars,chopras and 5 films)

turned away by salman supporters(like sanjay leela bansali)..

she didnt give up..she says"I AM NOT DEFINED BY THE OTHER"

she became an international celebrity(only known bollywood face intenationally according to priety zinta)
she wason thejury of cannes,on times top 100 list,60 mins,larry king,oprah winfrey gushed isnt she a beaut!!etc etc..

today the same chopra's are sending a clear message about dhoom:3to SRK(my other fav)..ash stays in our film you make your choice(this by unabashedly promoting her in dhoom2 over her male co-stars!!)a week after B&B released ,they created a major media hoohaa about releasing video clips of "craze of the nation" KAJRA RE..

she has come back stronger than ever..she rules...some might ofcourse say that likes of ashutosh gowarikar,mani ratnam,rituparna ghosh etc should get their heads examined!! 😆

trade pundits dont know how to react to her clout in international markets..eg

ashs umrao jaan made more than $1 miilion in theUS,where as jaan-e-man made only $500,000 😕 with combined power of akki and sallu(source- check any Hollywood box ofice list)
the case in UK is worse for jaaneman(souce india fm international box office)

so her going to the west has not been in vain..the producers and directors know where to put their money!!

cheers to girl power!! 👏 people instinctively understand a person's inner strength!!she is second only to amithabh bacchan in popularity in india..the guys are Way down!!( source 'times of india' poll..there is even a city by city break up!)

now to bipasha...i like her more and more each day 😛 .she comes across as a smart,confident,no nonsense yet smoulderingly sexy girl..ash fizzled next to bipasha's oomph in dhoom:2.you can say i am a bips fan!!

two strong contenders..i guess i agree😃

bipasha is a sexy girl no doubt about it, but she isn't really much of an actress. i like her better than aishwarya but i have to say that aish is the better actress. her roles in taal & shabd were excellently performed.😊

well..i blve tht bips has both SEXY looks nd skill of an actor.....as for ash...i din lyk her mch in de bikinies....it werent really suitin her nd ash is also not a superb actress.....she had nuffin to do in dhoom:2
but neways i fink bips is betta than ash....... 😊
