Amitabh, Rekha, Jaya were not the original cast of Silsila. It was Parveen Babi, Smita and the hero I don't remember (but it wasn't Amitabh) This is in the talks Srk had with Yash ji before JTHJ release. It was only a few days before Silsila shooting started that Yash ji met Amitabh by chance at the shooting of another film. Amitabh listened to the story and cast and asked Yash ji if he's happy with the cast and Yash ji said no. Abitabh probably felt the same thing and asked him what he thinks the cast should be and he said you Rekha and Jaya. So Amitabh said, okay I'm in. I will ask Jaya and you ask Rekha. So it was both their idea to do this film. They all did it because they knew it would do very well and earn lots of money.

So, at the end of the day, the original cast was kicked out just a few days before shoot.
