Facebook: Twitter-verse war

I have been contemplating for a while whether or not I should write this considering how much anger & general internet hate the actual campaigners are facing. However, I consider this bunch sensible enough not to go on the defensive. So, here it is:
Laura Bates of the UK started #fbrape in response to facebook blatantly REFUSING to remove pages encouraging domestic violence, rape and misogynistic tendencies. Twitter-verse is pressuring advertisers (giants, multinationals and small businesses: anyone who will listen) to pull their ads off facebook.

Do you think social media activism of this kind will force facebook to take action? Change their community policy or atleast be less biased when removing pages?
Are there better ways to tackle this problem? Suggestions?
Here are the links:

How does facebook deal with these hate speech pages: https://twitter.com/jeffperera/status/338757653482307584/photo/1

Ugh people's idea of what's humorous and hiding behind the facade of being a "troll" is disgusting.

I actually feel sick after seeing those images.

I am happy to see the advertisers responding and people such as yourself acknowledging the misogyny displayed in these pages.

It's surprising that that facebook allows such things to be present on its website.
Though to be honest, I feel that a lot of these images and pages were made not to reflect a person's misogynist attitude but to actually reflect on the offensive humour of the society. It seems that the more controversial, offensive and troll-worthy you are - the bigger "keyboard warrior" you are pegged to be.
Some people may truly be disgusting men, however some people may have done it to come across as being a "troll" and that's the sad part that this kind of stuff is seen as being funny.
And if you don't find it humorous then you don't have a sense of humour 😕

I have seen far more offensive groups and pages where a person literally attacks somebody and it is cyber bullying, but facebook doesn't do anything about it and the person is encouraged to keep at it.

@bold. this was the argument made by some advertisers last week. the fact is NO, they are not. the admin in charge of these pages post daily comments ADMITTING their hate for women. The pages are in no way, shape or form even close to satire. they are supposed to be taken at face value.

the troll argument is, well, bull.

facebook is being sued for the death of an Italian teen after they failed to take down a video of the teen after multiple reports over the weeks. she was being cyber bullied but the staff who brushed her and her friends' requests off are being charged with her suicide.

let me tell you what they do ban: breast cancer ads cause you know, breasts are offensive.
then, monsanto march pictures were banned. WTH? propaganda much? All my facebook friends who either admitted to going to the march or posted pictures or statuses are currently banned from facebook whilst these creeps get to stay on because they do not disobey policy? then, facebook needs a policy revision. march against monsanto is part of free speech. ain't nothing offensive about that. alright I am done.

I am not denying that the people who made this group may actually hate women; however my point was also to raise that these pages thrive and continue to occur could also be because being offensive, disgusting, rude etc has become part of what's considered to be "humorous" now. I have seen this occur in a lot of places - be it YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc. The anonymity that the internet provides (though it's hardly any when people get in trouble) gives people the illusion that they can say anything, do anything and get away with it.

There have been countless reports of cyber bullying on facebook. It's sad and horrible when nothing is done about it.
The worst is when somebody makes an RIP page for a dear loved one lost in an accident or something, or even a Missing page for a dear one, and people come writing with horrible comments such as:

Glad she is dead

(insert derogatory word) deserved to be kidnapped

agree. It seems to me that there are no corporate ethics that this business (facebook) want to follow. They will allow anything that gets them attention whilst pleasing the view points of their benefactors (see post in purple).

An update from facebook:
In recent days, it has become clear that our systems to identify and remove hate speech have failed to work as effectively as we would like, particularly around issues of gender-based hate. In some cases, content is not being removed as quickly as we want. In other cases, content that should be removed has not been or has been evaluated using outdated criteria. We have been working over the past several months to improve our systems to respond to reports of violations, but the guidelines used by these systems have failed to capture all the content that violates our standards. We need to do better – and we will.
