Excerpts from a chat:
Are you satisfied with the way your career has shaped up post Bandini? I've had a good career in the showbiz so far. So far as getting that satisfaction from whatever work I am doing is concerned, I feel my efforts have given me good returns. I am doingPiya Ka Ghar Pyaara Lage right now and hope to get to play lead characters on shows in future. I am happy that I got a chance to work with reputed production houses and the likes of Ronit Roy (in Bandini) and Gurmeet Choudhary (in Punarvivaah season 1 which concluded recently).
You made your Bollywood debut in 'Himmatwala'. Are you keen on looking at Bollywood as another career move?Himmatwala has been a good experience, specially working with Sajidji ( Sajid Khan). If another good role in a Bollywood movie is offered, I will be tempted to grab the opportunity. I had the same feelings and experienced the same goose bumps when I shot for Himmatwala as I did while shooting for my first TV show. I don't know whether my Bollywood stint got me noticed more, but am looking forward to more challenging roles.
Are you still keen on doing Gujarati movies? I started my career with Gujarati movies, when I was 16. I am just looking for an interesting script. Right now I am focusing on Piya KaGhar...
Does the talk of a show getting good TRPs affect you? Show TRPs do affect an actor's progress. If a show gets a good TRP, then everyone in the show benefits. But with bad TRPs, the actor's credibility as a TRP puller is questioned, particularly if you are in the lead. It is not that only actors get flak for bad TRPs, but since they are the faces of the show, they are affected the most. There is equal pressure on the creative team involved too. But more than anybody else, TRPs can make any actor feel insecure on TV.
