RE Sultan, I can't tell who is at fault. The writers of the PH or the creatives of Colors Channel ? But I fathom it to be the Channel. They go by their formulae for TRP generation.
Me and my sister were discussing the entire portfolio of Colors channel. Head of Fiction Programming is Prashanth Bhatt. I saw that he is even giving his name for concept towards Uttaran serial. Uttaran has been there since ages when Sourabh Tewari was Fiction head at Colors. Since when the Concept became Prashant Bhatt's ? But have to say, Uttaran is now interesting. I was hooked on to it daily.
Entire Portfolio has dominant theme of digressions and revenge and sloppy themes. My sister has different mind than mine as she is more into creative side and I am more into analysis. But when we discussed this we agreed that it is channel driven storylines and not per se PH story.
7:30 PM - Sasural Simar ka - Total crap show and she explained to me how Roli fetched TRPs and ever since Roli became TRP selling point, story kept on changing only to cater to her drama. Point was that story is so boring and messed up that only Roli becomes the recalling factor. Prem got bored and he left the show.
8:00 PM - Balika Vadhu - Has become crap and yet loyal audience to the show has stayed. Pratyusha fans left, Anandi fans stayed but Toral has made Anandi boring. Toral's face is unattractive. What remains is drama, which is still interesting time pass at prime time.
8:30 PM - MEIEJ - Revenge theme, Love theme etc.But if you see paraphernalia of accessorial content other than leads story, it is marginally thin. Very thin. The present track has removed ENTERTAINMENT FACTOR and without If ME can get attracted to Sanskaar, Uttaran, then MEIEJ stands little chance to attract new audience. What I saw in my visit to India is that women need to switch on the TV and men follow suit to give company. And here I fail to understand what is that average house-old woman wants to see. My family is a poor example. They all behaved like I behave. We can easily become Dal-Badloo if story is Bore.
My sister called the triangle a crappy theme. My mother has left the show because of Sultan. So this one also goes to crap content. Why would then Nautanki introduce Sultan and create boring drama ? To me and my sister it seemed more of the channel's need than PH's story. Channel promotes Sultan character. You should see the taglines that Colors was giving in between non-MEIEJ soaps. Every tagline used to involve Sultan. So IMO it is Colors who is directing the story to Nautanki and the PH has no choice but to agree to certain terms. The PH story writers show Sultan's story as forced love story, with Sultan developing love-buds overnight, but Channel waale promote Sultan's love as if his story is of Majnu and their ultimate sympathies lie with him in anticipation of his heart getting broken...as that lays down the foundation for another conspiracy or revenge story.
9:00 PM : Sanskaar. Totally senseless show and Colors seem to be matching it with DABH. But I enjoyed it as the leads look cute and cynical people like us get ample opportunity to make fun the TV characters. Basically it leads to enjoyment and if others want us to flip the channel into watching IPL, no one has any issues.
9:30 PM - Na Bole Tum - the story writer is Anand Vardhan. He is a good writer. But my sister says what a crap to have separated Megha and Mohan. She adores the two of them. I was liking whatever I saw but nothing about it engages my family.
10:00 PM - Uttaran - completely derailed story but channel is selling Vishnu and Meethi's love story. Note that entire soap is based on revenge and deception theme.
10:30 PM - Baani - this is really boring. Not sure who can watch this at late night. Its family based show, then why not make it 7:00 PM show ?
Basically, Colors is getting weaker and weaker in content. It has no new material and whatever they show, it attracts TRPs in the range of 1.0 to 1.9. Above 2 is a miracle.

This definitely cannot be PH creation but a channel driven theme as it is common across all their soaps. I read that in Baani too, one character is becoming negative. The management at VIACOM is either very sharp and has other insights which ordinary people like me cannot fathom or they are applying their mind into something else. No matter what crappy content they have, I have to say that if a family becomes loyal to a channel, they get steady ratings. For ex: my parents are loyal to Colors channel. It stands on FAV channel list. Seems 1 to 1.9 ratings are from these loyal people to the channel.
The weekend content of Colors is pathetic. I saw that they are giving lesser ad-breaks for movies on Sat and Sun in order to attract audience. That seems a good move. Seems reach of Colors is not far and wide across India. In terms of Ad breaks, I observed that SONY interrupts a lot. Content of Star Plus is so bad that my parents cringe at that drama. So in the end what counts most for channel is loyalty of audience towards the channel...as it is only a matter of pressing a button and that's my mother. She needs hassle free time pass. If something is boring, she would rather listen to news, or watch Animal Planet or go to sleep.
