Following the claims that The Vampire Diaries couple Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have split up after three years together, it has now been suggested that the reason behind their decision to call it quits was down to Nina not wanting to "commit".
Claiming that Ian, 34, was ready to settle down with Nina, 24, a source alleged to Life&Style Weekly: "He was starting to talk marriage and she is just getting started on her career."
Despite making the choice to split, the source went on to claim that the couple are still very much in love with each other. They added: "She loves him, and they still talk every day, but she is just not ready to make that huge commitment yet.
"Maybe in 10 years."
Of the reports that the couple had split after meeting on the set of the hit Vampire show, a source claimed to Us Weekly yesterday that Nina and Ian are "consummate professionals" and that the couple, who first met in 2011, "will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started."
As news broke and with no official word, Ian appeared to hint at the claims by posting a cryptic tweet which read: "A THOUGHT FOR TODAY: People change and forget to tell each other. -Lillian Hellman, playwright (1905-1984)".
Approached for comment regarding the relationship status of Nina and Ian, their reps both told EntertainmentWise that they would not be making a comment on "their client's personal life".
It was only last year that Nina gushed about meeting Ian. In an interview with Seventeenmagazine, the actress who plays Elena said: "I didn't want to be dating one of my costars - my goal on the show was to be professional.
"But sometimes you can't help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long - which I did for a really, really long time."
