Part 8:

Sak: dekha meine kaha tha na… tum ithne thang karthe ho, isliye sab tumhe yaha chod diya, warna vacation pe wo tumhe ghar pe rakhthe na…

Adi was feeling it hard to understand. "aise bath nahi hai…"

Sak: tho kya hai? agar tum ache bache hothe tho koi tumhe chodke nahi jathe…

That was too much for him to grasp. So that's why mom left him?? That's why bhagwanji took her away from him?? Because he was bad??

It was hurting him more than ever. He never thought that angle. Kya ye baath sach hai?

His face fell and looked at the lady again. He was lost for his words.

He just turned and walked away from the room. She looked at the retreating figure. Somewhere it hurt her to see that little face. She was too angry at Arjun and now she has blasted at someone who didn't deserve it. She closed her face with her palm. She knew she needed to apologise, but something in her stopped her. And all these because of the Arjun. She felt herself boiling.

"Aise kya kiya hai meine jo usse ithna gussa aya. Wo nahi hasna chahthe, lekin iske matlab ye tho nahi ke hum me se koi bhi nahi hase. Ha galthi hui hai mujhse ke wo glass toot gaya. Aur meine sorry bhi kaha tha na? lekin wo khadoos kahinka… uh…"

She wanted to blast again. And she needed to speak to her mom and she had vanished in this air.

Sophia walks in with some files and saw Sakshi pissed off. "kya hua Sakshi?"

Sak: mom kaha hai?

Sop: mam tho bank me gaye hai. Time lagegi aane mien.

Sak: God, I need to see her now.

Sop: baath kya hai? Can I help you?

Sak: nahi, its ok. Mom se kehna ke mien ghar pe hogi and tell her to call me.

Sop: aaj office nahi hai?

Sak: don't speak about that place to me. Bas mom se kehna ke mujhe call kare.

By that, she walks away taking her bag. Sophia has known Sakshi ever since she joined her Mam in this camp. Sakshi is a nice girl. Full of life. But once she gets angry, it's hard to control her.

Mrs. Anand comes back from bank after sometime. Sophia mentions about Sakshi. "God, patha nahi ab kya kiya hai usne… ok I'll call her"

She dials Sakshi's number. After some rings, she picks it up. "hello…" says a sleepy voice.

Mom: Sakshi, office chod ke ghar pe so rahi ho? kya hua? Tumhare thabiyath tho teekh hai?

Sak: mom, please don't start over again. Aaj apko patha nahi hai ke office mien kya hua. So please leave it… ab mujhe bohot neend aarahi hai. We'll talk later. Bye.

Mom: par Sakshi…

The line goes off. "ye ladki bhi… kab sudhregi? Kaam pe aise kya hua ke waha se chutti leke agayi??"

She moves to the kid's room. They were a few drawing. Few were busy in small games. A few were just chatting. But then where is he?

Adi was in a corner bench with a rubix cube. That was not so unusual. When not busy with other works he gets busy with the cube. But something was missing today. There was no concentrating face today. He looked as if just moving the cube around, for time pass. There was something hidden over there.

Nani walked to him and sat by him. "kya hua Adi? Aap teekh tho hai na?"

He looked at her face and nods blankly. "tho fir aap aise chup kyu baithe ho? chalo bathao. Kya hua?"

He looks back at the cube silent. Nani was worried a bit. It was not the typical Adi.

"Apke painting kaha hai?" he looks confused and then brings the painting to her. It was beautiful. "Are wah, bohot ache hai." no response yet.

She touches his forehead. No sign of fever. But he was not looking good.

She gets up and calls everyone's attention. "aaj aap sab ko surprise hai. Sophia zara wo bag le ana" Sophia brings a big bag that had a cardboard box. It was Nani's present for the day. Chocolate pastries. Kids get excited at the sight. All gather around her, except Adi.

"Adi, yaha aao. Chalo sab milke khate hai"

Adi comes to her just because he was called. Nani was really worried for her kid. He was not enjoying anything. It never happened before. The whole day, she tried to bring him up to the games. Either he declined; else he joined without any intrest.

The day was getting over. Kids were going home. Again Adi went to his usual place and sat just rotating the cube.

Nani took her phone and dialed Arjun. He was a bit worried to see her call. "Hello Mrs. Anand? Kya hua?"

Mam: Hello sir. I think I should have called you before… par mujhe laga ke sab teekh hojayega. Par ab…

Arj: aap kya keh rahe hai? Adi kaha hai?

She could feel the fear and a bit anger in his voice.

Mam: Adi yahi hai. mien ye kehna call kiya tha ke, aaj usse lene aap hi aye. Patha nahi kyu Adi aaj bohot upset hai. sabere sab teekh tha. Lekin patha nahi uske baad kya hua. Na kuch bol rahe hai, aur na teekh se kuch kha rahe hai. aap zara idhar ayiye. He'll open up only to you.

Arj: kahi kisike saath koi jhagda?

Mam: nahi. I enquired. Aise kuch nahi hua.

Arjun was worried. He was in middle of a final discussion of the case when the call came up. He looks at Rathod, who raise his eyebrows asking the matter. He could read tension in Arjun's face.

Arj: (looking at Sam) ok mien araha hu.

He cuts the call. "kya hua Rawte? Kiska call tha?"

Arj: Adi ke summer camp se. patha nahi, Adi kafi upset hai.

Sam: ok tum jao. agar wo teekh nahi hai,tho usse ghar le jao. We'll meet tomorrow.

He nods, takes his gun and moves out. Sam stops him in between. "Sakshi ki call ayi thi. She'll be coming tomorrow morning. Aaj sabere jo hua… I don't want it to be repeated."

Arj: mien kuch repeat karna nahi chahthe. Tell her to behave properly. Thodi maturity tho dikhana hoga. Hum bache nahi hai, aur naahi koi college students. We should be more responsible. Samjha dena usse.

He walks out. Sam rubs his chin. "in dono ke kuch nahi ho saktha."

Aisha smiles a bit listening it.

Arjun reaches the camp. Nani was waiting for him. "Adi kaha hai?"

She takes Arjun to the room. Adi was sitting keeping his head on the table. Nani waits at the door, while Arjun walks in. he sits on his knees besides Adi and touch his hair. Adi looks up and saw his Dad.

Arjun felt a pain. There was a tiny tear drop stuck at the corner of his eyes. "kya hua Adi? Aap aise kyu baite ho?"

Adi just looks at his Dad. Arjun could see that Adi was holding back a lot. He was just about to burst. The little pink lips were shivering. It was too much for Arjun.

"bolo beta kya hua? Kisine kuch kaha? Bolo…"

"Dad…" a light whisper came up behind a cracked voice. Arjun nodded asking him to continue.

"dad… mien bohot buri hu na…" the tears stopped its control, it fell down from the eyes.

Arjun was shocked at the question. He holds Adi's shoulders and makes him face Arjun. "kisne kaha? Aap tho duniya ke best bete ho… kisna kaha ke aap buri hai…"

Adi was sobbing now. Arjun pulls Adi to a tight hug. Adi lost all his controlled and cried out. "no… mien bohot buri hu… isliye mumma…" he couldn't continue. The voice cracked. Nani was feeling terrible to see the kid's state. Arjun was having a tough time to keep up to Adi's tears. But the last line…. It shook him… he breaks the hug and cups Adi's face.

"Mumma…? kya keh rahe ho beta? Kisne kaha ke aap bure hai? bathao Dad ko…"

Adi: mien buri hu. Isliye bhagwanji mumma ko legaye… Mujhe akele chod diya… isliye hum do hi hai… mumma nahi hai…

He cries out on Arjun shoulder hugging his Dad. Arjun was too shocked and in pain. He was feeling so helpless. Never in his life had he felt this much helpless.

Not when Roshni left him… not when little Adi cried at nights when she left him… not when Adi got a cut in his legs from the fall… not when he asked about his mom… not when he saw Adi looking at other kids playing with their mom…

But today… he was really helpless. The little boy was crying his heart out. Maybe the pain that he was storing up all these days were coming out… and now Arjun was not in a position to say anything… no words could comfort the little boy. If something that can help, that was his warmth… the belief that his Dad was with him… for ever…

After a few minutes, Arjun pulls Adi in front of him. "Adi, mujhe patha nahi, ke ye baath apse kisne kaha. Lekin ek baath mien bathatha hu beta… aap bohot ache ho. sabse ache. Aur Mumma ko isliye nahi dur jana pada kyunki aap ache nahi hai. Apke Mumma bhi bohot achi thi. In fact best Mumma thi. Isliye bhagwanji unhe apne paas bula diya. Isme apke koi galthi nahi hai"

Adi: tho fir hum kyu nahi ja sakthe? Hum bure hai?

Adi: nahi beta… aap bohot ache ho. magar aap bhi chale jayege tho mien akele hoge na… bolo aap chale jaoge mujhe chodke??

Adi nods no and again hugs his dad. Again weeps on his shoulder.

Arj: waise bolo, ye sab apse kisne kaha?

Adi: wo… aunty…

Arj: aunty? Kaun??

Adi: wo… ice cream wali aunty…

He tries to understand the person. He gets the situation. "ab uss aunty se milna hi padega…" he made a mental note.

"ghar chale Adi?" he nods. Arjun lifts Adi in his arms and takes his bags. He reach at the door and looks at Nani. He wanted to blast her for not taking care of his kid. "mien abhi aya."

Nani gets the anger in his tone. She couldn't blame him.

Arjun takes Adi to the SUV and seats him in the front seat. "mien abhi aya ok?" Adi nods and he walks towards Nani. "kya mien jaan saktha hu, ke yaha actually kya hua hai? koi kisi bache se aise bathein kaise kar sakthe hai? For God's sake he is just a kid. I never expected this would happen from your side."

Mam: trust me sir, mujhe nahi patha ke Adi se kisne aise bathein ki hai. I know you and your son well. Mere janthe hue, koi Adi se aise bath nahi kar sakthe.

Arj: tho fir kisne kaha? Aur ye aunty kaun hai? yaha ke staff??

Mam: mere staff aise nahi karege sir. I know them well.

Arj: tho fir yaha koi bahar wala tho nahi aye. As far as I know, you never let strangers here. Right?

Mam: you are right sir. Trust me sir. I'll see to it. And I promise this wont happen again.

Arj: you better, mam. Kyunki agar mere bete ke ankhon me ek aur aasu aye tho mien… I have a great feeling to stop him from coming here. But he was really enjoying coming here. Mere work schedule mujhe mere bete se dur kar rahe hai. uske vacation khatam hothe waqt thak hi wo mere saath hoge. And if this is the condition, then I'm ready to take the whole month off for my son. So you better try to know what actually happened. Aur wo jo bhi hai, mujhe usse milna bhi hai.

Mam: yes sir I get it. Please Adi ko yaha aane se math rokhiye. We all love him. I promise aaj ke incident dobara nahi hoga.

Arj: Adi ke yaha aana ya na aana, wo sirf uspe depend karega. Agar wo chahe, tho hoga ya nahi. But I want that so-called aunty in front of me ASAP.

He was wishing to give his usual 'samjhe ya samjhau'. But the lady in front of her showed genuine concern. He turned around, got in his SUV and drove away.

Nani was confused. After all who was that person? Sophia would never say it. She loved the kids. Then who??

GOD!!! Kahi Sakshi??

She felt herself going weak. "How did I miss it? Mere yaha ane se pehle Sakshi yaha thi… kahi usne Adi ko…."

She takes her keys and goes home.

She knocks the door and Sakshi opens it. "Mom aap yaha? You could have called. Mien pick up karna ajathi…"

She walks in. Sakshi got it that her mom was upset, or rather angry…

Sak: mom… kya hua? Kisi bache ne thapad mara kya?

Mom (flaring up): what did you say to Adi?

Sak: Adi?? Kaun Adi?

Mom: bano math Sakshi. Bolo, what did you say to him? bacha hai wo… usse ithne thakleef dene keliye kya keh diya tune?

Sak: (thinking) oh… tho uska naam Adi hai? aap mujhse naraz kyu ho? hamesha aap apne uss bachon ke side kyu lerahe ho?

Mom: so that was you right? Bolo? Kya kaha tune usse? Aise kya kiya tha usne?

Sak: bohot ajeeb ajeeb questions puch rahe the. Mien pehle se ithne gusse mien the.. wo Akdu Rawte ne tho mere dimaag kha gaya tha… upar se uss bache ke questioning.. 'aap gusse me kyu ho?' and all that. tho jo man mien thi, wo keh diya.

Mom: kya??? Did you mention something about his mom?

Sak: ha shayad… yaad nahi…

Mom hits her head with her hand. "hey bhagwan… is ladki ke mien kya kari? Apne gussa uss bechae pe kyu uthar diya? Patha hai wo kithne upset the?apne Dad ke samne ro roke thak gaye. Tumhe shayad patha bhi nahi hogi ke ek single parent ko apne bache ko palna kithna mushkil hai. mujhe patha hai. there papa ke jaane ke baad meine tumhe pala hai. I know that life. Aur ek baap ko akele apne bete ko palna… its hell tough…"

Sak: kya?? Uske mom nahi hai? mujhe tho…

Mom: patha nahi hoga… I know. Kyunki tum usse janthe bhi nahi ho… kabhi kisi bache se teekh se baath kiya hai tune? Nahi na… kabhi unke man janne ke koshish karo. Waha bohot kuch chupa hotha hai. jo kabhi hamare samajh se bhi bahar hai.

Sak: I'm sorry mom… mien..

Mom: for the last time Sakshi, please stay away from my camp. Mien nahi chahthe ke theri wajah se Adi ko koi problem ho. wo iss vacation enjoy kar rahe hai. uske baad wo wapas hostel jaane wale hai. Thab thak usse apne Dad ke saath khush rahne do. Please stay away from my kids. And I really hope ke kal Adi wapas aye. Because his Dad have left that decision for his son. And mind it… uske Dad tumhe dhoond rahe hai. He REALLY wants to see you. Aur mujhe patha bhi nahi mien unse kya kahu.

She walks off to her room. Sakshi was in the room. For the firs time, she was feeling pity on the kid. She remembered how the kid had spoken to her for his Dad's icecream. How his face changed when she mentioned his mom. How sad he was looking. And his retreating figure. She really felt bad. She sat heavily on the sofa and closed her eyes.

"I'm sorry Adi…. I'm really sorry…"
