Chapter#21

Wedding arrangements had begun in both of the houses. They had to cover all the events in a week because Nani and Anjali didn't want to miss out any. They did a quick Haldi ritual of Khushi separate from Arnav's. It had been done so quickly that no one knew what was happening and when. And now it was the day of engagement of Arnav and Khushi.

Khushi stepped with the right foot on to the stage while looking at Arnav, who was totally lost in her eyes. He stood there wearing a grey Armani suit with a white shirt; his hands in his pockets and his hair was gelled backwards. Khushi was wearing a tea-pink long dress with silver work on it. Her hair had loose curls at the bottom and she wore simple silver jewelry.

The ring exchange ceremony took place. It was Khushi's dream to marry Arnav. She had a flash back of her talking to Payal about her future.

Flashback

"I wish we become best-friends and he falls in love with me too and we marry each-other." A fourteen year old Khushi looked above the sky with a dreamy look on her face said to her best-friend Payal.

"You are insane Khushi. You can get better guys." Payal scooped up the remaining ice-cream and put it inside her mouth.

"Not better than him." Khushi pouted.

Flashback ends

Arnav had slipped the engagement ring into Khushi's finger. Payal handed her Arnav's ring and asked her to put it on but she was in a totally different world, smiling stupidly. Arnav flicked her nose, that's when she came back to the real world. She looked around in embarrassment and then at Arnav. Arnav just kept smiling at her cuteness. They both had exchanged rings and now after taking the blessing from the elders they all sat in the living.

Everyone else was busy chatting; Arnav, Khushi, Akash and Payal were sitting on the sofa. Suddenly Arnav realized that Akash and Payal were constantly looking at each other and he felt that they wanted some privacy. He looked at Khushi, who was having fun watching their discomfort. Arnav got up pulled Khushi with him to the guestroom. Khushi was taken back by this. She tried to remove his hand away and said:

"What the hell do you thing you're doing? What would everybody else think? Why did you bring me here" Khushi tried to wriggle out.

"Because you have no brains to understand that Akash and Payal needed some privacy to talk to each-other." -Arnav rolled his eyes and kept pulling her along.

"Huh? I have no brains? Look whose talking." Khushi said as she stopped and folded her arms.

Arnav was about to say something when Khushi turned and went up to the room door to leave but as soon as he was about to say something he saw her quickly turned back at him to face him and said-

"Mar gaye." She said biting her nails.

"What happened?" Arnav asked.

"Payal's mom is coming this way and she had strictly warned me that after the engagement I'm not supposed to see you alone. It's some thing they say that it isn't good. But what do I do now." Khushi said looking here and there for a place to hide.

Arnav who was enjoying the moment folded his arms.

"It's your punishment for turning on my face and not listening to me." Arnav said with a smirk.

"YOU. ARE. RIDICULOUS. "Khushi and turned to the cupboard.

"This is my house and I don't care what Aunty thinks. I'm going." Arnav said while almost walking out.

"Nooo!" Khushi said pulling him back. While pulling him back they both lost balance. In order to not fall Khushi's earring and her bangles got stuck into Arnav's coat. Arnav had one of his arms around her waist holding her close to his body; while Khushi had her ear placed right on his heart listening to the rhythm it was creating. The moment of silence was broken as they heard Payal's mom for yet another time and through the open doors they could see her coming. Khushi struggled to remove the bangles and earrings and in the process got knotted herself even more.

"Oh god, I'm dead, definitely dead." Khushi said.

Arnav held her close to him and pulled her inside the cupboard. In those seconds Payal's mom came into the room. "Khushi, Payal where are you?" -Payal's mother said and looked around to witness an empty room. "I thought I heard Khushi's voice." -She twisted her eyebrows and looked around to find them.

Meanwhile in the cupboard Khushi looked Arnav with shocked eyes. As Payal's mom was moving around the room looking for Khushi, Arnav had Khushi held close to him in his arms; closer than ever. He didn't know why but he silently wished that Payal's mom stays here for some more time. He was looking down at her and was helping her free her earring and bangle. After a few tries he had finally succeeded.

Khushi looked up and froze with the way Arnav looked at her. She couldn't move, not a muscle, just like her brain had stopped functioning. Arnav smirked at her position and raised his eyebrows at her. She got embarrassed by her situation, she had forgotten about Payal's mom's presence and tried to move back but was stunned as Arnav pulled her closer again. Khushi looked at him in amazement, when he pointed towards Payal's mom with his eyes and whispered in her ears-

"Aunty..." He whispered.

This whisper was more like a warm breath on her neck which made her shiver. After searching and muttering for some more time, Payal's mom left the place. Arnav and Khushi were lost in each other's eyes and had lost the count of time and place, till they heard Anjali call out for Arnav. Khushi quickly pushed Arnav against the cupboard wall, slid the door open and ran out of the room as quickly as she could.

Anjali saw Khushi running out of the room and looking back again and again. Just a few seconds later she saw Arnav smiling in the room. She smiled as she felt happy for her brother and his perfect match.
