MUMBAI: In a show of support for actor Sanjay Dutt, Bollywood will organise a signature campaign on December 12 at Film City. But contrary to reports in certain section of the media, there will not be any peace march or bandh.
"We are not calling a bandh. All we are doing is launching a signature campaign to show our gratitude towards the actor who has been kind to all our workers of the film industry. The signature campaign will only be for a day and all our workers — from spot boys to actors — will visit Film City on December 12 to show their support for Dutt. We have told all producers to give them concession for the day," said Dharmesh Tiwari of Federation of Western India Cine Workers.
Pahlaj Nihalani, president of the Association of Motion Pictures and Television Programme Producers, said, "We don't have any intention to interfere with the court's order or influence the judiciary. The idea is to express our support for Sanjay who has in the past helped the film industry workers in whatever way he could."
The film producer added,"All that I can say is that Sanjay is a nice person, always helpful and has already undergone punishment by spending some time in jail and going to Tada court regularly for the last 13 years." Nihalani also said the whole of Bollywood welcomed the verdict to the extent that Dutt had been exonerated of terrorism charges.

MUMBAI: Bollywood on Wednesday decided to launch a signature campaign on December 12 to express their support to actor Sanjay Dutt who has been held guilty under the Arms Act for possessing weapons used in 1993 serial bomb blasts case.
"We are grateful to Sanjay for his kind deeds and the help he extended to workers in the film industry and hence we are launching a signature campaign to express our feelings that the entire Bollywood is with him in this moment of crisis", Pahlaj Nihalani, film producer and President of Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers, said.
The signature campaign would be just for a day at the Film City in suburban Goregaon where members of film industry in various cadres -- spot boys to actors to producers and directors --"will come together to show their support to Sanjay whom they all love", Nihalani said.
"We do not have any intention to interfere with the court's order or influence the judiciary. The idea is to express our support to Sanjay who has in the past helped the film industry workers in whatever way he could", Nihalani said.
"All that I can say is that Sanjay is a nice person, always helpful to others and has already undergone punishment by spending some time in jail and going to TADA court regularly for the last 13 years", Nihalani said.
The film producer further said that the entire Bollywood welcomed the verdict that Sanjay had been exonerated of terrorism charges.
After pronouncing him guilty on November 28, the court gave Sanjay time to surrender till December 19 and would hear arguments before awarding him the punishment.
