Sorry I'm late! The birds didn't let me sleep at 5am and so I just woke up. And about this update...I don't even know lol! I promise this is the last time I'll play with her memory! Promise!
Chapter Thirty-One – The Year
They both looked at each other and hesitated to answer me. I stared at them with demanding eyes, which showed I wouldn't back down until I had the truth. Then finally RK stepped towards me while saying my name. He put out a hand but I raised mine while stepping back. I rejected his comforting motion and he fell silent again.
"Don't. Just tell me what year it is."
They both remained unresponsive which made it obvious I had been lied to.
"You suffered from retrograde amnesia and…"
Adi tried to explain but he didn't answer my question, so I closed my eyes and raised my hand to shut him up. I grew frantic on the inside, as I didn't receive an answer to my question, so I yelled.
"WHAT YEAR IS IT?!"
"20…2013…"
Adi spoke in a shaky voice. As soon as I heard the year I began to step backwards in shock. I could've sworn it was 2006…but since it was 2013, that meant I was 25…where had seven years of my life disappeared? Had I been in a coma for seven years? Why had they lied to me? And what did Adi mean by me being kidnapped?! Questions flooded my mind as the room began to spin. I heard both the brothers call my name but it was too late. I fell to the ground and let the shock take me over.
I didn't know how much time had passed when my eyes began to flicker open as I felt myself lying on a comfortable bed once again. My vision was slightly blurry at first but I managed to focus my eyesight after a moment. I turned my head to my left and saw Adi sitting there quietly. I attempted to sit up unsuccessfully so he rose to help me. Once I was in sitting position on my bed, he sat back down without saying a word. I stared directly at him. It felt like it'd been years since I'd seen him, though I knew I'd just seen him just before I had received the shocking news…I mean, it had been shocking at the time, but now nothing seemed to be a shock. Everything clicked in my mind and my kidnapping made sense. I noticed him look away as he couldn't keep eye contact with me.
"Where is he?"
He looked up at me and hesitated for a minute.
"He uh…you…"
"I want to talk to him."
"Wait Madhy…what year is it…?"
"It's 2013, now tell him to come see me."
"What do you remem…"
"Aditya! Get R…"
"You should rest though…"
"Fine, I'll just go get him myse…."
I noticed someone enter my room through the side of my eye. I instantly stopped speaking and looked towards the door to see him standing there, leaning against the door with his arms crossed. I turned to look at Adi who had his eyes on RK as well.
"Adi, I'd like to speak to him alone."
He exchanged a glance between the both of us and then nodded his head as he stood to leave my room. As he walked past RK, I noticed them give each other an odd look. I ignored it as RK shut the door and came to sit where Adi had been sitting to the left of my bed. I knew exactly what I was going to say to him. He opened his mouth to say something as he glared at me in his kidnapper mode, but I spoke first.
"Do you love me?"
It was as though he didn't even have to think about it as he shook his head no in response and then smirked. He leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms as he put his feet up on my bed.
"Then why'd you sleep with me last night?"
His smirk disappeared which probably meant he wasn't expecting that question from me. Had he really thought that my fainting would make me forget? He put his feet down and leaned forward in his chair, staring at me intently.
"The doctor said you wouldn't remember anything since the coma…"
"You might want to get a different doctor next time because I remember everything."
"Everything?"
"Every single thing."
"How far…"
"My father didn't do it."
He fell silent. I watched his expression grow furious and then he suddenly stood up. He turned his back towards me and ran his hand through his hair as his other hand rested on his hip. He faced me once again and bent over me while grabbing my arms tightly.
"You're lying again. You remember nothing. You overheard Ad…"
"I ran away from you. I ran away from you when you accused my father. I ran and you watched as I got hit by a car and went rolling down a hill. You knew which hill I went down yet you never came back for me. You let that orphanage take me in and lie to me. When I lost my memory, you let them tell me that I'd been abandoned at the age of three. I know you kept watch of me…otherwise how else would you have known where to kidnap me from?"
"Shut up. SHUT UP."
He shook me but I refused to back down.
"Why? Because I'm right? Now you know that I remember everything. Except for your reason for kidnapping me. If you plan on luring in my father, it won't work. He never came looking for me, so he probably won't again."
"That's because he did it!"
"My father…did NOTHING."
"SHUT UP MADHU!"
He let me go and turned his back towards me again.
"He did it, but you ran because you never loved me. You never loved me. You ran from me rather than to me."
"That's not tr…"
"It's true!"
"I think I would know my own feelings RK."
He turned to face me and looked my face up and down.
"Besides, what proof do you have against my father?"
He didn't respond for a moment, which gave me my answer.
"Exactly."
"Your modeling image was posted on a billboard against your will, with your number. You've received fifty calls since it's been up. I want you to find your father from those numbers and call him over."
He watched me while awaiting a response but I kept a straight face on. I wanted to talk to my father…it had been seven years. I also wanted to know why he never came for me. He simply turned to walk out of my room but I questioned him again.
"And if no one answers?"
"Then you call again."
"How can you be so sure he called?"
He looked over his shoulder and spoke sternly.
"I just know."
