Chapter Twenty-Eight – The Rejection
The next 24 hours flew by. RK remained by my side the entire time. He fed me; he fixed my hair, and held my hand whenever he had a free hand. He was perfect. I was so lucky to have a guy like him in my life. Though the entire time he was in the hospital by my side, he hardly spoke up, but I still felt comfortable having him there. I had never been fond of hospitals or doctors, but RK always made me forget my worries. He always took away all my pain and problems. It was seven at night when the hospital room door opened. The doctor walked in slowly and came to my bed side.
"How are you feeling now?"
"I don't know how long it's really been, but I honestly feel fine."
"That's because the car didn't cause much damage, it was the concrete ground on which you hit your head. So it'll be normal for you to have headaches for a while, every now and then. If you feel any severe pain, make sure you immediately come back. Try to get as much rest as you can and avoid tiring work of any sort."
"Okay, thank you doctor."
"Just doing my job. And Mr. Kundra?"
RK looked up at the doctor slowly with an odd expression on his face once again.
"Yeah?"
"I've already talked to you, you remember everything?"
"Yes doctor."
I was sure the doctor had informed RK on how to take care of me, which I found super sweet.
"Well miss Malik, take care of yourself."
"I'll stay off the roads."
"Good idea."
I laughed and watched the doctor leave the room. Then I very slowly got off the bed. It took RK a moment to realize I was standing, but when he did, he placed his arm around my waist to support me. I looked up at him and smiled but he didn't smile in response. Something was definitely up with him. He supported me all the way to the car and helped me sit in. The entire drive home he remained silent as well. When we reached home eight at night, he helped me towards the door. As he opened the door, I was in awe.
"You gave this place a makeover while I was in a coma?!"
"Uh…Neha did, I guess, I don't know. You should go to your room."
"My room? Since when do I have a room in his house? Whenever I stay over, I sleep in your room!"
"My room…right, sorry, forgot."
I frowned as he remained in his quiet mood. I only liked when he was in his loving, adorable, happy mood. I decided I'd make it up to him. It'd been a while since I'd gotten close to him. He was probably angry with me for being careless and getting hit by a car. I knew exactly how to make it up to him. He began to walk towards the steps but I grabbed his arm. He turned to look at me slowly but then we were interrupted.
"Ahem."
I looked to my left and saw Adi smirking at us with crossed arms.
"Ugh Adi, you always ruin the moment. Go to bed!"
"I just came to say welcome home Madhy!"
"Madhu!"
"Madhy!"
"Madh-U!"
"Madh-Y!"
"Ad…"
He chuckled and ran up the stairs to his room before I could complete speaking. It didn't bother me though, I was just glad he was gone. I slowly walked up to RK as he stood still. I went onto my tip-toes and whispered into his ear.
"You wait down here, I'll call you in a bit."
"What are you d…"
I didn't let him finish and ran off just as Adi had. I entered RK's room and smiled at how it still looked the same. It seemed as though the past two weeks had changed everything, so the fact that his room was still the same definitely managed to make me feel better. RK hadn't known this but I'd always kept a backup nightdress in the bottom of his walk-in closet, to the right, under a luggage, just in case I'd need it someday. I quickly ran towards his closet and saw the luggage in the exact same position as I had seen it the last time I was there. I smiled and moved the luggage out of the way. I found what I was looking for. Though it had accumulated dust over the past two weeks, it was perfect. I dusted it off and held it up in front of myself. A pink, silk nightdress, which went halfway up my thighs, and had lace straps, was just the thing to win him over. I stood in his walk-in closet and quickly changed into the nightdress. I knew I was ready to give in to him. It'd been four years. Four years and all we had ever shared were kisses, nothing more. I knew I was ready for this…after all, we planned on marrying each other. I dimmed the lights and went to sit on his bed. Then at the top of my lungs, I screamed.
"RK!"
And exactly as I had suspected, he came running to his room. The door swung open and I heard his alarmed voice.
"Madh…"
He trailed off as he saw me sitting on the bed.
"What…are you doing?"
"RK…I love you…I'm ready…"
"What…"
"Come here RK."
"No Madhu. You don't want this. You have no idea what you're saying. Go to sleep."
He spoke so quickly and angrily that I didn't even get the chance to say a word.
"I'm sleeping on the couch, you're sleeping on the bed. Now res…"
"RK!"
He went silent finally as I yelled out his name. I got off the bed and slowly walked towards him. I noticed him look me up and down which caused my cheeks to flush red. Then as I managed to get him in a trance, I grabbed his hand and walked back towards his bed with him. I slowly got onto his bed without letting go of his hand. I waited for him to follow my movement, but he didn't.
"RK…your parents aren't home if that's what you're worr…"
"That's not it."
"Then what is it?"
"You have no idea what you're doing."
"I know what I'm doing…"
"No. You really don't."
"Why do you keep saying that? What's wrong with you? What happened to you over these past two weeks that you've started acting so coldly towards me? You hardly even ta…"
"Shut up."
I felt a blow to my heart as he told me to shut up for the first time. I looked away from him and crossed my arms. I felt the bed dip down to my left and noticed he had sat in bed next to me.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean that."
I ignored him, giving him a taste of his own medicine. I had felt as though he had been ignoring me the entire time in the hospital since he spoke so little.
"Sorry?"
I slowly turned to stare at him and saw him holding his ears. I couldn't help but smile.
"Rishabh, I want this."
"Madhu, you don't. Trust m…"
"I want this. It's obvious you don't though. Whatever, I'm going to go sleep on th…"
I was getting up but he pulled my arm, which cut me off. One second he was avoiding me and the next second he pulled me underneath him. He had one hand on the other side of me on the bed and was positioned on top of me without placing his weight on me. I looked into his eyes and saw the passionate fire I had been looking for. I smiled as he whispered passionately.
"I've been waiting for this moment longer than you have…"
And with that he began to close in on me.
