I don't even know anymore. This update is confusing. I'm just waiting for the next 3-4 updates to be over and then it'll all make sense! Super early update today because I have two back to back exams later today. :( Well, hope you all like it, and if anyone is confused...I'll answer questions! (For anyone who's watched 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', maybe it won't be so confusing.)
Chapter Twenty-Seven ā Living In The Past
I slowly opened my eyes. I was about to raise my hand until I noticed I couldn't move it. I turned to my right and looked down to see him sleeping with his head on my hand. I let a smile cross my face while I watched him sleeping so peacefully. I kept my eyes on him until he began to move slightly.
"RKā¦?"
He froze for a second, as though he thought he was hearing things, but then his head shot up in my direction. He instantly sat up and stared at me.
"Madhu?! I thought I almost lost youā¦How are yā¦"
He trailed off as I caressed the side of his face. He kept his eyes on my hand and then he slowly looked up at me as I rested my hand on the side of his face.
"I'm okay. How long have you been here?"
"A whileā¦I'll get thā¦"
"What happened to me RK?"
"We'll talk later. I'll be back with the doctor."
I nodded my head slowly as he stood up. He kept his eyes on me for a bit but then turned around and walked out of the room. A moment later, he returned with the doctor.
"Ah, you're awake!"
"Hello doctor!"
He walked towards me as RK glanced at me oddly.
"How are you feeling now miss Madhubala?"
I had to take a minute to think about how I was feeling since I had no idea what had happened to me.
"Hm, I think my head hurts."
The doctor laughed at my uncertainty and then sat down on the stool to the left of my bed while RK stood behind him.
"I want you to stare into my eyes, I'm going to raise a hand in your periphery and I want you to tell me which it is."
I nodded my head as he spoke.
"Leftā¦Rightā¦Both."
"Good."
"Now follow this light."
I followed the movement his blinding light made until he put it away.
"Good. Now do you know what happened?"
"Nope."
"You met with an accident. Don't panic, you're okay now. You were out for approximately two weeks."
"Two weeks? Are you sure? He sure managed to look a lot more mature within two weeks!"
The doctor turned to look at RK who had a confused expression on his face for some odd reason. Then the doctor slowly turned back towards me and asked really weird questions, but I figured it was a part of his job.
"What year is it?"
"2006!"
"How old are youā¦?"
"18, duh."
I noticed RK's eyes widen slightly at my answer, then he put his hand on the doctor's shoulder. The doctor raised his hand and asked me another dumb question.
"How old is Mr. Kundra?"
"Well, he's 19, but these past two weeks are making me think he looks more like a 23 now."
"Good."
I knew the doctor thought I had lost my memory, but when he answered with good it was obvious that I hadn't!
"Doctā¦"
"Mr. Kundra, may I have a word with you outside?"
RK nodded his head and walked out of the room while glancing back at me before closing the door behind himself. I was sure the doctor was getting him to fill the papers to take me home. I felt okay and all I wanted to do was be in my RK's arms again. I spent twenty boring minutes looking around myself at the hospital equipment when finally RK returned. He slowly walked towards me and took a seat on the stool to the right of my bed. I turned my body to face him and smiled.
"You can make that worried look disappear now! I'm fine."
"You're fineā¦I know."
"Yup, so, when do I get to go home?"
"Home?"
"Yeah! Wait a minuteā¦"
I looked around the room again once and then my eyes landed on a confused RK again.
"Where are ma, papa, and my future in-laws?"
I winked and his eyes widened. I laughed while taking a hold of his hand. I interlocked my fingers with his and watched as he slowly closed his fingers around my hand. I glanced up at him and realized he hadn't spoken.
"You didn't tell them about us yet?"
He remained silent, which I found quite unusual.
"Where are they RK? Where's everyone?!"
"Uhā¦theyā¦I meanā¦"
"They're on vacation!"
My head shot towards the door as a familiar voice spoke up.
"ADI!"
He smiled after exchanging a look with his brother. He held flowers and came to my bedside.
"Finally awake Madhy, how much sleep did you need?!"
"Hey! How many times have I told you not to call me that?"
"Hm, at least a hundred times or so."
I giggled and noticed his eyes were slightly swollen, just as RK's.
"Aw, you were crying too?"
"What? No, we Kundras don't cry!"
"Suree, don't worry, I'm perfectly fine."
"I can see thatā¦"
"And hey! How'd you grow to look mature as well? Two weeks? That can't be true! My mini gangster wanna-be Adi is wearing a suit?"
"Hey, suits are in. They're the new fashion."
"Oh Adi, you'll never change. Now help me with something."
"Yeah?"
"Make your bro speak up. He's been quiet since I woke up!"
I watched as he glanced towards RK who remained silent but didn't take his eyes off me.
"Broā¦?"
"Huh?"
It seemed as though he came out of a trance as he instantly looked away from me and towards his brother.
"Madhy wants you to taā¦"
"WAIT! Ma and papa went on vacation Adi!?"
"Oh, yeah. Actually what happened was that when the doctor announced you were stable and out of danger, we convinced your parents and our parents to not cancel their trip plans."
"They went together?"
"RK's idea. He thought if they spent time together, thenā¦I mean."
"I get it, it'll be easier for RK to tell his parents that he wants to marry me! Right RK?"
I turned to stare at him again but he didn't respond.
"RK?"
"What? Sorry."
"RK, I'm fine. You don't have to worry anymore."
"I knowā¦"
I stroked the back of his hand with my thumb and felt his hand tighten around mine.
"Bro, I'll go call Neha. I mean, the doctor said we can take her home tomorrow evening and since her parents are gone, she can stay with us right?"
"Oh yay! Sleeping over at the Kundras!"
I felt excited instantly. It felt like it'd been ages since I'd last slept over at RK's place. I loved sleeping in his arms. It was as though all the worries of the world disappeared when his arms would wrap around me. I watched as RK nodded his head and Adi walked out of the room. Then he turned to look at me again.
"You should rest Madhu."
"RK, are you okay?"
"I'm perfect. Get some sleep. We'll talk tomorrow."
I took his word but I knew something was up with him. After all, I had been dating him for the past four years; so I'd become a natural at reading his face.
