Chapter 11
BANNER CREDITS TO MAANIQRA, KINKHANFAN AND RU_21
Geet was hell nervous and Maan was not making anything better for her with his teasing. she reverted her attention to the road and looked on listlessly outside the window. She knotted the side of her sari around her fingers and though she tried to be calm yet the milestones that she came across every interval warned her of the 'impending danger' the date. Given Maan's mood it was indeed dangerous to be out with him that too alone, she thought nervously. she gave him a sideways glance and saw the infamous smirk that tugged at his lips and the very moment he looked in her direction and the car came to a halt.
The very next moment she saw him coming closer.
There were too many things happening at the same time for her to cat and react according and Maan's heated gaze, the musky scent of his cologne drugged her senses, and she saw herself perishing under the spell of his charm. His face was a mere few inches away and his breath fell close enough to tickle her lips in an unknown sensation.
"Geet" he said in his deep baritone voice, "if you keep rolling your pallu around your sari, am sure you'll succeed in your aim to ruin the fabric since it is tucked in securely with numerous pins, and you'll not like that"
When Geet furrowed her eyes in confusion, he simply smiled at her and said, "you'll have to eventually change it and get back home in one of my shirts, I'll not mind that given how irresistible you'll look but I want to save that for later."
With that he got out of the car and was by her side holding open the door to her.
Geet was appalled and shocked at what he had just said. He was reeling under the effect of it.
"c'mon Geet come out, give me your hand" Maan implored.
Geet who was still in daze gave her hand which were trembling in his warm palms and it was when he squeezed it, that Geet realized the glint in his eyes. He had once again put her in spot. Strike two! Geet thought ruefully, but the next moment she was back with her fiery best,
"Maan do you plan to stand out here gaze into my eyes all evening, I had thought you had made plans, what happened, are you trying to make up with your charm since you couldn't make the desirous arrangements"
Thank god Mrs feisty Khurana is back before the date, this date'll be fun, Maan thought. The next moment he took Geet's arms in his, looking into her eyes he said, "come lets go whether I have lived up to your expectations".
Geet had been so busy all the while pulling Maan's leg that she didn't realise her surroundings until Maan led her by her arm.
The entire farmhouse and the premises had been bathed in lights, lights that were'nt too bright or to mellow, but just the right tone that suited the occasion. Geet noticed that they gave out a tinge of silvery hue as if creating the atmosphere of a moonlit night.
She was awed by the beauty of the huge palatial house that lay in front of them. Though she had been to the Khurana farm house before for picnics and brunches but they all been family outings. But today it was different, she was here all alone with Maan her husband and that too for a date.
The farmhouse was gift to Maan's grand mom from his grand dad on their 25th anniversary and when he had gifted it to her he had joked, 'its our abode to love". And indeed it looked like one. The house with all it's grandeur and elegance gave out a feeling of warmth and love to it's visitors. Whenever one required recluse in the family they would turn to the farmhouse that was located on the outskirts of the city overlooking a picturesque neighborhood. Maan's grand dad had named it Prem Nivas or where love resides. Geet had often heard her grandfather tease Maan's grand mom about the trips she made here with her husband when he was alive. The farmhouse had a history of romance. Maan's parents too ventured to the place every now and then for some time alone.
And it was his history that troubled Geet now, she clearly understood why Maan had chosen the place. But she was too dazzled by the beauty of the place that she failed to protest when Maan now led her towards the garden in the backyard instead of taking her inside.
Geet was jarred out of her reverie when Maan nudged her and whispered close to her ears, "do you mind taking your sandals off princess?"
When Geet gave a puzzled he smiled at her, "trust me Geet, it's no prank, I have something really special for you and above all I don't think you would want to hurt the flowers"
His answer made Geet all the more confused, yet she took her sandals off while he took his shoes off.
Next what Geet saw she couldn't actually believe her eyes, out there, in front of her lay a path way, that was covered with a thick carpet, a carpet that was made of flowers. For a moment her eyes brimmed with tears at the thoughtfulness of her husband. Maan nudged her once again when he found her all still by her side staring at the arrangement with awe. Geet followed his lead.
They were now walking on a path covered with flowers, rather it was a thick carpet of flowers, of roses, to be more precise.
He led her to the garden of the house.
The garden looked like straight from the heaven, the lush green carpet of grass, that felt soft as feather when Geet walked on it.
Garden that was on the rear of the house spread across a gigantic area surrounded by palm and pine trees and orchid plants at the helm forming a boundary of its own looked elegant and the fresh smell of the flowers that wafted off them filled the air with a sweet aroma. It had been illuminated by soft dim lights, lanterns that hung from the trees.
There had always been a swing in the garden and today what Geet saw dazzled her eyes, instead of the usual table at the centre with a seating arrangement for two, Geet noticed that the swing had been decorated tastefully with orchids and there on the seat she saw a bottle that had been kept in an ice box to cool.
All the time Maan had his eyes transfixed upon Geet. He didn't want to miss any of the expressions, that gave out her views about tonight's arrangement that he had made . What he saw was appreciation, she seemed to be all awed, especially the swing had taken her totally by surprise. It had been his improvisation. Instead of the usual seating arrangement, with a table at the center with two chairs and a champagne bottle on the table, he had experimented with the swing and it turned out to be a winner.
Maan now led geet towards the swing and made her sit on it. She had been so dazed by all the decorations and the beauty of the place that when maan came and sat next to her on the swing it jerked her off her reverie. She now sensed the graveness of the situation, she looked meekly at Maan who smiled at her, not his usual devilish smirk but the casual reassuring smile. One that was to ease her out. It somehow gave Geet the much required courage and she got back to business.
"I think Dushyant kaka has done some real commendable job, he should be applauded for that" Geet said.
He initial appreciation of the caretaker of the farmhouse didn't go down too well with Maan. It hurt his pride, after all he had spent all afternoon arranging for the flowers, lights, constantly keeping the servants on their toes and he literally had driven Dushyant kaka nuts with all his demands. All the tantrums that he threw around showed some excellent result and instead of giving her handsome husband some credit his beautiful wife was praising the caretaker.
Geet saw Maan's jaw tightening and his entire form go rigid, strike two! she mentally patted her back. She had got him.
"I gave instructions to him to decorate it the way it is" Maan replied coolly.
"hmm, but following the instructions with finesse and these intricate detailing, those lanterns over there, its quite an improvisation. Dushyant kaka must be lauded for his efforts. He must have spent his entire afternoon arranging for all this, the lights, orchids, then those flowers on the pathway. It must have been real tough on the old man, we must thank him for all the pains that he took"
Maan just couldn't believe what he was hearing. He was at the back of the florist, he had taken precious minutes off during the afternoon to go to the florist and explain to him in details as to what exactly he wanted. Those lanterns were so hard to mange, he had Adi comb across entire Delhi and barge into the offices of all the event management companies to arrange for those. To get the orchids transported to the farmhouse without any of them getting ruined was so difficult yet he managed and then those flowers god! He had arranged for air conditioned vehicles for the orchids and the flowers. Yes his staff shall be lauded for their tenacity, for putting up with all his tantrums and for living up to his instructions but the ideas were his. Maan mentally chided.
When he turned around to give Geet an answer, the naughty half smile couldn't go unnoticed, she was smiling to herself, and she looked so adorable. It suddenly struck him that all the while he was getting harrowed by his sweet wife. She was actually pulling his leg. He couldn't believe it first but then when he realized that Geet was still in mood to play he decided to amuse his wife this time.
"so Geet you really like all the arrangements huh?" Maan asked nonchalantly
When Geet nodded in affirmative, he simply smiled and said, "good, then I guess I need to show you my arrangement for tonight" with that he held up the glass bottle that had been kept in a cool canister.
Geet eyed it suspiciously "what is it Maan? Alcohol? You know I don't drink?"
"yes I do, but there are always exceptions and this is just apple juice so you can drink it" Maan said
Maan sudden change of mood rang alarm bells in Geet's mind, he was all smiles, and from rigid he had gone into total relax mode, the naughty glint was back and so was the terrorizing smirk, she somehow couldn't trust him.
"no! I cant have apple juice, I'll have water" Geet replied
"c'mon geet have some, don't worry its just juice" Maan said
"I said I'll have water" Geet remained stubborn
"your wish" Maan shrugged his shoulders, "ok so what kind of water" Maan asked
By now Geet had lost her composure, she was getting nervous, when she looked all confused and perplexed, Maan eased her out of her predicament, "I mean plain or mineral?"
'mineral' Geet replied shakily
Now this time Maan had gotten her and he was not ready to let her go that simply and hence he carried with his charade.
'crystal clear or sparkling blue?'
"sparkling blue"
"in a bottle or glass?"
"glass"
"cold or normal?"
"cold"
"aspirin or anti depressant?"
"aspirin"
Maan chuckled at Geet's confused expression, whatever maan asked she gave a reply absentmindedly. She didn't even realise that Maan was pulling her leg. He couldn't stop himself from laughing aloud and it was then that geet was jarred out of her misery and left red faced not only with embarrassment but with anger, anger that she had been tricked into it so easily. But instead of being a spoilsport she laughed at it and went along with the joke and this time when held the glass up towards her she took it without anymore suspicions. The game was over and the date had begun, that was announced when Geet felt music in the air. She looked around to locate the source when Maan pointed to towards the speaker that were hidden amidst the pines. The music that played was one of Geet's most favourite, it was the 'truth of touch' by Yanni.
The cool soft breeze made her hair fall all across her face. She smiled at maan, "nice choice, how did you know it's one of my favs?"
"am glad that you took it as granted that the music selection is that of mine and I wasn't helped by Dushyant kaka, I had once saw the cd cover in your room, from that I assumed that you are into yanni" Maan replied nonchalantly.
"hmm quite an observant you are, anyways thanks, I really like all that you did for me and this drink though I was a bit wary about it, but tastes real good, but doesn't seem like apple juice, what is it? Geet said taking a slow sip from her glass.
"what do you think it is?" Maan asked, a deliberate, slow smile spread across his face
"I don't know, may be it's some sort of mock-tail, or fruit punch" Geet grimaced, eyeing her drink
At that Maan shifted close enough to Geet until his face was a mere inches from her's and whispered close to her ears, "no, my sweet wife, it's not what you think, it's neither a fruit punch nor any mock tail, its champagne, the best of it's kind, apple juices are never pink in color".
All the while sipping the drink Geet had not noticed the unusual color of the drink that she held in her hand rather she concentrated on savoring the taste of it and Maan had very cleverly handed over the drink in one of those light moments and she had started sipping on to it. When Maan's words sank into Geet she gave a startled look which gave Maan the encouragement to continue, "I thought after all the crying in the afternoon, and the explanations and teasing and then the bomb of date, what you really needed to do was relax so, the champagne, don't worry my intentions are very noble" he replied his silky husky voice that sent chills down Geet's spine.
Geet sat there all transfixed, getting know reaction from her end Maan beckoned, "dance" holding his hands forward.
Geet simply gave her hand into his while he led her towards the centre.
The song that played now, was Voyage by Yanni, one of the most passionate and sensual numbers by the maestro of contemporary music.
The song echoed the feelings of Maan and Geet, the rawness in the music the passionate tunes of cello and violins tingled their senses, especially Geet's, the soft grass underneath felt like feather and she found herself melting in the arms of her knight. It first started with slow waltzing but as the tempo changed it transformed into close dancing. Maan pulled her close against his body, as if telling her she belongs only to him. The possessive firm hold made Geet look up into his eyes, that looked back into her's with fire, raw passion and love. Before she could read more into it, she twirled her around and now her back collided into his chest, she felt intoxicated with his breath falling close to her ears and neck, the musky smell of his perfume transported her into dreamland. They glided with the music, their bodies brushing against each other provocatively, their breaths mingled into one due to lack of distance and Geet shivered she felt Maan caressing her arms. The next moment she was in the air, Maan had lifted her up and the slow agonizing slide down made Geet quiver and a moan escaped her mouth. And even the passion that the dance involved. She had become a puppet in the hands of Maan and in trance she simply went with him, matching each of steps. She had drowned all to well and deep and had lost all her power to think straight when the song and their dance came to an end. She still remained plastered to Maan holding him tight. She felt her body to be on fire as if there were flames burning within.
"I think music and alcohol can be deadly combination, especially when it concerns you, it's gets the best out of you. I never knew you could dance so well" Maan said with a smirk.
It some made Geet very conscious of her position, she was still clinging to Maan, and at the moment she made an attempt to move away but Maan held her back, "no, Geet you are not going to run today, you'll face me" Maan said in a soft tone laced with finality that made Geet look into his eyes and ask, "why? Why are doing this Maan? How am I suppose to understand your sudden change of behavior? What happened after today morning?"
