The main charges against Dutt are receiving some of the weapons used in the blasts from underworld don Abu Salem and keeping them at his residence.
Dutt had actually admitted to the charges in his confession, which he made shortly after his arrest, but he later retracted the same.
Filmmakers worried
It's not just fans across the country who were anxiously waiting for the final verdict on Sanjay Dutt, the film industry has had sleepless nights as well.
Lage Raho Munnnabhai may have made Sanjay Dutt a near cult figure but riding on the verdict of the blast accused is Rs 100 crores some of Bollywood's biggest projects.
A clear Rs 50 crores is there on the unfinished films and it is a worry for producers.
The unfinished projects lined up are Mr Fraud directed by Abbas Mastan with a budget around Rs 20 crores and it is almost 60 per cent complete.
Next is Dhamaal directed by Inder Kumar with budget of Rs 10 Crore and it is also half way through. Sarhad Paar directed by Raman Kumar is 80 per cent complete and the budget is Rs 12 crore.
Then there is Sanjay Gupta's Shootout at Lokhandwala with the budget of Rs 15 crore is also 80 per cent complete.
Then there are those waiting for the dates of the actor who according to reports has cut down his shooting commitments.
Some producers have already jumped ship and are making arrangements to replace Sanjay if required.
