Makes it very difficult to feel "proud to be an Indian" when this is the news this sort of news keeps coming out from your homeland all the time. I know India is much better than this, but something seriously needs to be done about the "rape culture" in India.

Not trying to sound disrespectful, but crimes have already been a part of the society, and will be. It's good to talk about the attitude of society towards these crimes rather than reporting each and every incident. What we can do to prevent such things and especially make sure that blame falls at the right place and person, and people can differentiate between the perpetrator and victim. Barring that, I don't think reporting rapes as an anomaly does any good, it is a subset of other crimes.

Why was the thread transferred to Debate Mansion? The topic maker doesnt seem to have started the thread with any intention to debate anything. If anyone wanted to debate on it there is a thread running regarding sexual violence (https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/debate-mansion/3476057/real-discussion-about-sexual-violence) and also regarding the gangrape victims, the convicts and also the cops . Members wanting to contribute any constructive suggestions or otherwise feel free to join the discussion there. Mere reporting isnt going to do any good.

BTW was the thread transferred from the Bollywood section?

Assuming the case of Oscar Pristorious, the decission was given within 7 days and that too the circumstances were not so clear but here in case of Nirbhaya, whole world is aware of the culprits then why it is taking so long to come to the conclusion and give the culprits appropriate punishment for their crimes...!!

Another fact is everything happens as it would've happened but courtesy media channels ppl are getting the impression that all of a sudden so many ppl in india have turned into rapists. isn't that funny/confusing ! 😕 may be news is a commodity these days the more you can sell the more you earn!!!!

I feel like such a nave idiot. I've watched Bollywood films for years and have read news from India yet I've not noticed all of these rapes taking place before.

Probably because I was too busy reading about silly film stars and the shenanigans they get up to.

This story, if true, is one of the most heartbreaking yet. Some countries I'd expect it from but I wouldn't have thought this sort of thing would happen in India.😕

Arresting the rape victim or shaming and blaming her is just the LOWEST thing there is. When it's a 10 year old GIRL that takes vileness to an even deeper level. Have these women no hearts, no motherly, protective instinct toward a child? What the hell is wrong with this world?

Between the gun-toting, homicidal whack jobs in my country--USA--- running around shooting everyone and the rapists in India it seems that the callous lunatics are taking over the world.

sadly all the fake values and cultures in India is the sole reason behind all these things..

living in India makes me so very ashamed and aghast at the same time

ever growing population horrific mentality and super powers of politicians film stars and bureaucrats only worsen the situation...

hope wish and pray that this country and its people get some sense soon before all the innocent lives are butchered

f**king hell India, when the hell are you gonna wake up!? I am so sick of politicians freaking wiping their own ass, trying to protect their own children (after they kill somebody, or get into some kind of crime), and literally eating all the money that should be spent on the betterment of the society.

it's absolutely disgusting how the women in this country are treated. Why the hell can a woman not step out of her house without fearing for someone to attack her?

When the police refuses to support the females, they are forced to fight for themselves - but what happens after they try to defend themselves? either acid is thrown at them, or they are raped.

This is disgusting, and till the time India does not do anything about it, soon it'll be called a country of rapes.

As harsh as it may sound, that is literally the image it is projecting. The men constantly leer at women, and make them feel uncomfortable, while they are forced to endure it because there is no protection.

It's disheartening to see this happen, and it's seriously about time something is done.

I want all the rapists to be castrated. They should have their things chopped off for doing something as heinous as this. Let them suffer the pain a woman has to feel during those minutes she is made and used to feel like nothing.
