Chapter Fifteen – The Light Touch

I was glad I didn't have to wake up early to make breakfast for the brothers. I laid in bed comfortably while letting the sun shine onto my face. I stretched and sat up slowly. I never thought a day would come when I'd be thankful for being kidnapped. I was sure living the life of a princess to say the least. I slowly got out of bed and went to the bathroom to freshen up. I splashed my face with water and stared at myself in the mirror. Today's a new day, a good day, I told myself. I got changed and walked out of my room. I looked down the stairs, towards the foyer and couldn't help but smile at how clean it had become overnight. My eyes happened to land on Neha who was mopping the floor and that's when I remembered Adi's words; I've got a new job planned for you. As I wondered what he meant, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to see him standing in front of me, wearing a classy suit like usual.

"Off to work?"

"Not yet. Bro wants to see you."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

"Well tell him I don't want to see him."

"It has to do with your new job."

"What new job?"

"I'll explain later, I just need you to quickly go meet bro."

I sighed after reading his face for a minute. I knew Adi wouldn't willingly send me to see RK unless it was important, so I decided to listen to him. I walked past him and towards RK's room. This time I didn't bother knocking; I simply opened the door and walked in. He was pacing back and forth until I stepped in. His steps came to a stop and he turned to face me.

"Ever heard of knocking?"

"Well you never respond to my knocking, so I figured I'd just walk in."

"Next time, knock."

"Can you just get to the point? Why'd you call me here?"

He began walking towards me and I couldn't help but remember how close he had come the previous night. I stood my ground though; attempting not to show him how much he frightened me. Luckily he came to a stop a good distance away from me.

"Can I trust you?"

"Trust me? What do you mean?"

"If I were to let you out into the open, would you run?"

I couldn't help but think about the idea of being free. Free from both the orphanage and RK. But where would I go? How would I live? All I had now were these two brothers…both who cared for me, one unconsciously. I knew he cared for me. He had made it obvious but clearly he refused to accept it.

"What are you thinking?"

I blinked as I came out of my thoughts and saw him staring at me keenly.

"Nothing."

He stepped towards me.

"I don't believe you Madhubala."

"I'm serious."

He stepped closer.

"Don't lie to me."

Before I knew it, he was gripping at my arms and shaking me.

"Would you run?!"

"N…No!"

"How can I trust you?"

"I have nowhere to go! How many times do I have to tell you that you can trust me?!"

"As many times as I ask."

He released me and I let out a sigh of relief. I watched him as he eyed me while stepping back.

"If you pull a stupid move…"

"You're stupid for thinking that I would. Where would I go? Back to that orphanage? I'd rather live on the streets. But if I get to live here rather than the streets…why would I run?"

"Because you're KIDNAPPED. You're stupid for not wanting to run!"

"I'm not stupid! Why would I run?! You both care for m…"

I trailed off as I realized what I let slip out of my mouth. He fell silent as well and just stared at me with an angered expression.

"We care for what?"

"Nothing."

"We. Care. For. WHAT?"

"Noth…"

He stormed back towards me and grabbed my arms as he did earlier. I grimaced in pain.

"TELL ME."

"I said NOTHI…"

"WHAT DO WE CARE FOR?"

"ME!"

His grip fell loose on my arms and I felt his eyes on my face as I looked away from him.

"Look at me."

I shook my head no slowly.

"Madhu. I said look at me."

I knew he only called me Madhu when he was in a caring kind of mood, so I slowly faced him. We locked eyes for a minute and that's when I saw the pain behind his eyes. His eyes definitely hid some deep, dark secret. As I stared into his eyes, I noticed his eyes land on my lips. He loved doing that; it wasn't the first time. My mouth opened slightly to let out my breath as my pulse sped up. He closed his eyes and I wondered what was on his mind. Then unexpectedly, he opened his eyes and raised his hand towards my face. I became stunned as he stroked the side of my face with the back of his hand. I closed my eyes at his light touch.

"Bro…?"

My eyes shot open at Adi's voice and RK instantly let me go. I stepped back and noticed his eyes on Adi behind me. I quickly turned around to see Adi standing there with slight shock on his face.

"Adi…that…I…"

"You can take her Aditya. She won't run."

I turned to look at RK who had a straight face and stared directly at Adi. As I kept my eyes on RK, he turned around and walked towards his desk as though nothing had happened. I looked towards the ground disappointed and confused but decided not to let it bother me. I turned back towards Adi and walked up to him as he eyed me with an odd expression. As I reached him, he smiled to my surprise. Something was definitely off about his smile, which told me that his smile wasn't true.

"I'll meet you downstairs."

"Where are we going?"

"Work."

Before I could say anything in response, he walked into RK's room and closed the doors. Even though he had told me to go downstairs, I decided to listen in on what was being said. It wasn't fair for them to have kidnapped me and not told me why…so I decided I'd have to figure everything out on my own. I placed my ear against the door.

"What was that bro?"

"I don't want to talk about it Aditya."

"Do you really think you can control yourself?"

"Yes."

"I don't think y…"

"I SAID I CAN!"

"Bro…I'm only asking because of last night…and just now…I hope you know what you're doing."

"Don't worry about me Aditya. Let's just hope what you've planned, works."

"It will. I'm sure this will lure him in."

"And if it doesn't?"

"It will bro."

"You should get going before she grows suspicious."

"Right. I'll see you tonight."

I quickly ran away from the door and down the stairs as I realized Adi was leaving the room. As soon as I was at the bottom, a bunch of questions arose in my mind. Adi had planned something, so did that mean I couldn't trust him? Was he the mastermind behind everything all along? And what did they mean when they spoke of RK controlling himself? Who were they trying to lure in? And with what…? I was so confused. I couldn't go on without having answers to my questions. I felt as though I was putting my life at risk for trusting these brothers would never cause me any harm. That's when I made a last minute decision…I was going to run. I was going to run as far away from these brothers as I could.

I am so happy that Madhu has decided to "pull a stupid move" as RK repeats over and over. Hehe, she will get caught but the bigger question is, who is this other person they are trying to lure in? Clearly Madhu is the bait. Is that why they kidnapped her? I am thinking either Ballu/Sultan or you may have someone else entirely. You have got my attention, I am sure you will keep it ;)
