Comedy Central: Epi Apr 12
A lot of people complained that I didn't write an episode specific post yesterday. I am sorry I was short on time and was also carried away by Asad's gesture of once again, saving his damsel in distress. That's why dedicated my post to AAK yesterday.
As I promised, here is my alternate post on the April 12 episode.
What a laugh riot! I have to credit this PH for giving us a nice mix of emotions, drama and comedy- a complete entertainment package. While I cried my heart out last week, this week has been more light hearted and ended with the perfect dose of comedy.
Here are my favorite characters and moments from yesterday's episode.
#1. Dhurandar Bhatawdekar: Rakesh Bedi, the veteran comedian stole the show yesterday. Even though it's been years, he hasn't lost has flair for comedy. Uttpal Dutt, the original DB from 'Rang Birangi' has made the name immortal in Bollywood history. Rakesh Bedi did full justice to the the 'bhari bharkam' name like Dhurander Bhatawdekar and 'chashme baddoor,' we will continue to see him perform for many years to come.
Some of his dialogues were hilarious:
'main kaaide aur kaanoon ka sakht aadmi hoon'
'log mujhey ab tak pichattar (75) kehte hain'
'kahani mein twist hai'
'chicken pox mein se saare chicken bhaag gaye?'
'destiny ne mera saath diya'
'kya pata Zoya ne boy cut kar liya ho?'
'aapki family bahut gupt type ki hai.'
His character, although of a man who is strict and law-abiding, is of a man who is capable of compassion and also of a good listener. Unlike, a lot of high level government officials, he is not egoistic or authoritative, just a follower of rules. One can tell that if given a good reason, he would do what's in the best interest of a person and not be stubborn about his rules. He agreed to let Zoya stay back for a few days, if she was genuinely sick, he agreed to Dilshaad's statement that Zoya should be allowed to stay back in India as long as she has a legal reason and then he was willing to listen to Asad's story about the engagement. This gives me hope that if AsYa can convince him and pass the 'test of love,' he would allow Zoya to stay.
All in all, he is a loveable character and I hope we get to see him for a few more episodes. Would love to see him insist on an engagement ceremony between AsYa or insist on random checks to make sure AsYa are really a couple. We, the audience would love such interference from the immigration officer.
#2 ZOYA FAROOQUI: Surbhi's flair for comedy has been a highlight of this serial and she didn't disappoint us yesterday either. Her comical expressions, body language and antics were hilarious. The way she peeped from behind, crawled back to her room, winked at Asad, slipped under the covers with pen marks on her face, appeared desperate when DB forced her to leave and then her classic dialogue: 'kahin aap mere unse judaa na kardein, haina jee?' were all hilarious. Zoya, the nautanki girl, was a treat to watch yesterday. Also, that red color really suits her. I would love to see her in deep reds and blues more often.
Her expression of disbelief when Asad announced their engagement was well portrayed. I can't imagine what her reaction would be when this all sinks in. Will she be ecstatic or will she doubt herself or confront Asad or feel indebted or get upset? Let's see what the creative have in store for us. I can see it going in any of these directions.
#3 DILSHAAD KHAN: I wish Dilshaad would get more screen time, especially with Zoya in coming weeks. They make such a cute saas-bahu duo. They have great understanding and both are drama queens to a certain extent. Loved Dilshaad's presence of mind and the way she jumped into the whole nautanki with Zoya was adorable. I am glad she supported Asad's out-of-the-blue decision of the engagement with Zoya. Goes to show what a supportive mom and how fond of Zoya she is. I loved her expressions and comic timing.
#4 ASAD AHMED KHAN: A man, not known for being demonstrative, did a great job with his subtle expressions, nods and 'aankhon ka ishaaras.'
Loved the way he mumbled, 'you never know,' when DB stated 'ho sakta hai Zoya ne boy cut karva liya ho…you never know.' How well he knows his Ms Museebat. If needed, he knows, she could go to any extreme- even a boy cut!
Then his statement, "don't worry, she will be okay." For me, this is Asad's way of saying- 'jab tak main hoon, she will be okay…I will take care of her.'
Asad's subtle nods included the one to Tanveer to 'not spill the beans' and then a subtle 'ishaara' to Zoya to come stand next to him after he announced the engagement. KSG, known for his OTT expressions and body language in DMG has done a great job with a totally understated and subtle performance as AAK in this serial. I can't believe that he is the same actor, who portrayed such an animated character like Armaan Malik.
# 5 SHIREEN: Shireen is just so nave but at times does ask sensible questions. Her statement yesterday: 'bhabhi aap kitni bholi ho,' just shows how clueless she is. She is a lovely character but frustrates me at times. Hope she figures out Razia one day.
Symbolisms:
- The khan family (including Zoya) arm in arm- an unbroken chain of strength and unity. Tanveer stood at the sidelines.
- Tanveer's evil plans are like squeezing a tube of fevicol. The harder she squeezes, the firmer AsYa get glued to each other. Hope it continues like this.
- DB mentioned that 'destiny ne mera saath diya.' Hopefully, wo Asya ka saath bhi dega.
- Asad's statement- 'don't worry she will be okay' foretells that as long as he is there, Zoya will always be okay
- DB's 'test of love' foreshadows the big test of love that awaits AsYa (maybe in Ajmer?)
- Zoya's statement about Billo- 'yeh tho mehmaan hain' hopefully foreshadows her exit soon :)
