Chapter-13

Khushi was looking in her design portfolio for the scheduled meeting when suddenly her gaze fell on Payal who was smiling to herself lying on the bed playing with her fringes. She first narrowed her eyes in suspicion followed by a teasing smile.

Payal was replaying the evening oblivious to the glances coming her way but she stood up from her position when she felt someone tickling her on belly.

"Khushi stop. What's the matter?" she asked holding hands of her younger sister who was tickling her mercilessly.

"That's what I want to know Jiji. Anything the matter?"

Payal answered in negative getting a "Liar" in response from Khushi.

"I saw the way you were smiling to yourself all lost" Khushi said enthusiastically.

"I was thinking about my day. Today was good, nothing else" said Payal shrugging her shoulders.

Khushi teased her for some more time before giving up happy with the knowledge that her sister was finally looking like her old self. She knew her Jiji would tell her the reason and source of happiness by herself soon because she has always been like this, not holding any secrets from Khushi for much longer. This understanding made Khushi genuinely happy, not only for the prospective of Payal sharing something important with her soon but also that she was smiling like old times again getting out of the self imposed shell where she smiled for everyone else and not herself.

Next morning was a busy affair for Khushi preparing for the meeting and getting ready fast after receiving Arnav's message that he is on his way to pick her up. She felt a strange anticipation at the news of Arnav picking her up making her more nervous and clumsy. Payal was literally running after her helping her and at the same time feeding her breakfast. Khushi gulped down her glass of milk when she heard of a car outside her apartment.

She ran outside carrying her bag muttering a quick bye to Payal. Payal's "take care" remained unheard as she was by now outside like a gush of air.

Arnav was about to honk again when he saw Khushi opening the passenger door greeting him with a smile. Khushi turned in her seat to look at the person sitting behind; she turned towards Arnav finding no one there.

"Where is Amanji? Have you not picked him up yet?"

"He is not coming." Came his reply in a clipped tone.

"What? Why?" Khushi half shrieked.

"He has some emergency at home" Arnav told her in a straight voice turning on the ignition.

She asked him why he didn't tell her about this earlier. She also advised him that it would have been good if he had taken someone else along with him. Arnav told her if she was referring to Lavanya or NK then they were busy; NK with office meetings and Lavanya with her cousin engagement. Khushi was still going on giving various excuses about how someone could be of use other than her as she was new in company. After minutes of her rambling Arnav finally asked her "Why are you scared to go alone with me?"

At this Khushi replied that she was not scared but was just being practical adding that she was scared of nothing as she knows karate well.

Arnav secretly smirked at her knowing well about her condition.

Khushi knew what Arnav has said was truth. She was indeed scared of being with him. Last night she had convinced herself that with Aman being there with him she was safe from his close proximity. But now that condition removed she was wondering how she would maintain her distance with him. His closeness in the car was affecting her then how she could expect being safe. Khushi remembered how she was missing him last day only when she could not see him all day.

So much for missing him!!! Devi Maiyya gave you full day with him without any disturbance Khushi Kumari Gupta. Why Devi Maiyya why did you do this to me? Was my last jalebi offering not good?

Arnav kept looking at her from the corner of his eyes only to find her muttering to herself. He wanted to openly laugh at her. He was definite that it was due to her being alone with him. He had not planned for this outing with her but the last minute changes in Aman plan due to some personal issues gave him the golden opportunity to be with her alone. He has not expected her to openly show her discomfort but she surprised him as usual.

Khushi not only amazed him with her inaudible ranting but also the way she confidently spoke to him when he asked her about the designs. Her hands moved animatedly as she described designs with her gestures. Her every word accompanied by her hands and her eyes. He has never met anyone in his life that could be so expressive in their work.

Khushi felt his gaze on every hook and corner of her face as she kept on speaking about the designs. She finished her one-sided conversation when she could not take it anymore. She reached in the pocket of her bag to come up with a wafers pack citing she was hungry just to avoid his attention.

She munched on offering Arnav too. They ate in almost silence as Khushi kept looking outside other than discussing about the route and location.

It took them two hours to reach Neemrana. Khushi looked at Neemrana Fort-Palace in complete awe of the magical palace. She has heard and read a lot about the palace but no word seemed to do justice to the sheer charisma of the place. The 15^th century heritage hotel was located on a high hillock and had six acres of garden-place having seven palace wings built over twelve layers tiered into a hill.

Arnav handed keys to the valet as they stepped out of the vehicle. He gestured Khushi to come inside the hotel along with him.

Arnav gave her keys to freshen up and take rest as meeting was after half an hour. Khushi entered in her room called Moti Mahal in a slow motion gazing intently at the beautiful architecture having a king size bed overlooking water body on one side. She loved the small balcony attached to the room.

Khushi went to the reception after receiving a message from Arnav to meet him there.

Arnav was checking mails on his blackberry when he felt air around him charged telling him of her presence. He looked up to see Khushi wearing a polka dot top teamed with black denim striding in his direction. He wondered if she had changed her dress or he was feeling so because he has not seen her walking up to him like this. Her hips swayed rhythmically with the tendrils of her hair which have come out of her pony tail. In this moment he just wanted to hold her to him and kiss her senseless much the way she was making him feel.

Khushi felt his intense gaze on her before she could locate him in the seating adjacent to reception. She appreciatively noticed the charcoal grey suit and a flick of hair which has come out from his gelled hair. A desire to flip it back in its original position while touching his forehead and brows coursed through her. She tried to put a stop to her wayward thoughts much for her own good considering how she has this uncanny ability to make a fool of herself especially in front of him. This man is lethal for you Khushi. Just stay away from him. She repeated to herself as she was approaching him.

Khushi entered the conference room with him to find their client, Mr. Singhania, already present there with his team of two members. Their meeting began after the formal introductions were made. As the meeting progressed Khushi realized the importance and scale of project. It was not only about Mr. Singhania's putting money in AR Bridal Range but also that an upscale fashion show was also to be organized. After discussing designs with Khushi participating followed by a short discussion with Arnav Mr. Singhania and team left; their gentle smile at regular interval during the meeting indicated their success.

After sometime Arnav & Khushi were seated in the beautiful indoor Jalgiri Mahal, a fine dine restaurant of the hotel. Khushi feasted happily on the delicious food making Arnav smile. He has never seen someone so excited for food. This thought made him grasp the fact that this girl in front of him could get excited by simplest of things be it food, work or rain. He still remembers vividly the night she was standing trying to get an auto in the heavy downpour. There was no auto stopping but still she was smiling in between catching rain drops in her palm. When he met her for the first time Arnav thought of her as crazy but now there were few other adjectives he could relate to her like lively. It is this zeal and warmth that completely amuses him.

"Why are you not taking any dessert?" Khushi asked him in surprise as she gulped down a spoonful from her bowl.

Arnav saw Khushi face falling when he told her that he is diabetic.

"This is so unfair that you can't eat this strawberry ice-cream you ordered yourself" her voice laced with sadness.

"And that means you can't even have my favorite jalebis" she wondered aloud as if nobody could survive without them.

"I can indulge in little sweets sometime" saying this Arnav leaned in towards Khushi grasping her hand holding spoon dipped it in bowl and took it in his mouth, his eyes holding hers all the while.

"But it was used by me" Khushi squealed.

"Didn't I just tell you that I can have something sweet once in a while" he told her in a serious tone.

She opened her mouth to retort back when the implication of his words settled on her making her flush.

Khushi was half lost in recollection of the lunch incident when they were moving out of the restaurant. She was still thinking how intimate it felt to share even a dessert with him. Khushi suddenly felt a push at her shoulder making her stumble backwards. Before she could find her footing she found Arnav by her side holding her at waist. The college group she has walked on busy in her thoughts made a quick apology passing by. Khushi didn't hear their apology as her sole attention was on his hand holding her.

She looked up at him when she heard his husky voice rich with concern "Khushi, tum theek ho?"

Khushi nodded her head in negative looking in those deep molten caramel orbs that always enticed her as if they are the window to his heart.

"This charcoal suit goes perfectly well with your deep brown eyes. They shine with it"

"Although you look good in every color I am sure you would look absolutely stunning in red with your cheeks and nose matching them perfectly" Arnav said flicking her nose with his finger.

This brought Khushi out of her stupor. She took few steps back to create some distance between them. Khushi walked towards the door of the restaurant. Arnav saw her turning back to look at him on reaching the entrance and he winked at her making her hurriedly walk out of his sight.
