Part 10 B

The days following their return from Goa seemed to pass in a rush. Their cases kept them so busy that they hardly had track of time. Mornings turned into nights and nights into mornings. And, the never ending paperwork. They were fed up. Of course, it was harder because they were missing an officer. Arjun was still not back but he would be joining them in 2 days. His medical case had been transferred to Mumbai, in Sanjeevani Hospital, one of the best hospitals of Mumbai. He had to go for regular check-ups and his attending doctor had said that he was fit enough to report back on duty. Arjun had heaved a sigh of relief hearing those words and it had taken all of the self-control from both, Sameer and the Dr. Rai to not laugh. Though Dr. Rai had been a good-enough actress to hide her laugh, Sameer didn't have enough luck and had earned himself a glare and a lecture from our super-cop for not behaving himself. Everyone had been relieved to know that Arjun was coming back.

Apart from our Ms. Statistics. She was glad he was OK. But his coming back didn't make things easier for her. After all, staying away from him had been somewhat easier when he had been away. Now, that he was coming back, she knew life was gonna be hard on her. Her time was running out, and she knew that.

While Riya hadn't been too happy to see him each day, our super cop couldn't wait! He was glad to be going back to ETF, definitely glad to NOT being locked up in this house with practically nothing to do, happy to be going and helping people and catching criminals, BUT ecstatic to see Ms. Mukherjee in front of him. He hadn't liked the fact that she hadn't been around to visit him even once. And it wasn't like she hadn't come to Sameer's house. She had come to give him some files but had returned from the door. "Bahut late ho gaya hai Sir," she had said, "mujhe abhi jana hoga!" True, it was late. But a little 'hello' or 'how are you?' wouldn't have hurt her! Now that had been the limit! Sameer hadn't allowed Arjun out of the house else he would have gone to her and demanded answers. But now that he was going back, this little task was going to be completed. Oh! How he missed her! Her eyes, her smile, her laugh, the way she looked at him, the way she brought his "cutting chai"! everything! He missed everything about her. He was in love! It was too long that love had surrounding him after. Now, he wasn't going to let it go! It had been too long! It was time for Romantic Arjun to be back!

On the other hand, Riya was ruling out her options. Leave ETF? No. She had worked too hard for this post. She hated the research desk. Transfer to Kolkata ETF? NO! She couldn't go back to that place! The place, which held the haunting memories of her parent's loss. Nope! Not worth it. Anyways, she wasn't going to leave her ETF family. Shree- the best friend, Sameer- the guide, Chotu- the protector. They were the brothers and family that she always wanted. Arjun- her first and last love. No. It was too much to lose. And anyway, she couldn't leave them. None of them had anyone to take care of them. She just couldn't leave them on their own. She had to be with them, help them in their grief, share their sorrows and happiness. Also, this life was only what she had. If she went away, everything would be lost. This, here, was Riya. Riya Mukherjee would cease to exist anywhere else. She just couldn't go anywhere. All she had to do was here. She had to stay here! And stay away from him! This was here only option!
