Chapter-12

"Jiji are you sleeping?"

"Are you awake?"

Both Khushi and Payal spoke at the same time being unable to sleep after silently lying in their bed for last half an hour. They burst into laughter forgetting the reason for their sleepless nights.

They were chatting for a while when the thundering sound outside made them realize about the weather.

"It has started raining again" said Payal looking at the window.

"For a moment I thought I won't be able to reach home today. No auto was ready to come."

"But some people are really helpful even when they don't know you enough" Payal continued dreamily.

"Par rehte Laad Governor hi hain! Their domineering attitude never goes away as if the whole world has to follow their words."

"Their words are so sweet. You never get to know where the time passes flying by. There is so little time and so much to talk and share."

"Share- there is nothing to share. What to tell him that my heart starts thumping on a jet speed whenever I think about the store room, the way he ki.." Khushi suddenly realized what she was going to blurt out in front of her Jiji. She was grateful that she became conscious of her words before they tumbled out of her mouth.

"I am going to sleep Jiji, good night" she said feigning sleep.

Payal replied to her still lost in the thoughts of a man with a dazzling smile and determined personality. She recognized that this one rendezvous with Akash has transformed a major portion of her heart. She could not lay her finger but she felt a strong pull towards him.

When the sister duo woke up in the morning they were still lost in their thoughts. Both were nervous due to the activities of the previous day. Khushi was thinking about how would she face Arnav again and Payal was wondering if she would be lucky enough to meet Akash ever again in her life.

Lavanya was going to her cabin checking time on her wrist watch. She was dead tired with the engagement preparations and her office schedule. She entered her cabin swiftly taking her seat and fetching a file from the corner of her desk moving the clutter of stationary placed in front of her to another side with her palm.

NK stepped in her cabin exactly after two minutes only to find her so busy that she completely overlooked the rose placed on top of the papers which she had swept to other side moments before. He approached her with a smile saying a Hi which went unheard. He wondered if his voice was so feeble or it was Lavanya who was so involved in that useless file which by the way happened to be of one of their currents prestigious project. He raised his hands in air as if asking God What should I do now?

He slowly tiptoed to her desk and took the ignored rose in his hand. NK stood next to Lavanya who was still deep buried in her file much to chagrin of NK.

"Hey Beautiful" NK said leaning towards her placing the rose in front of her making her jump in her seat with the sudden intrusion.

"NK what's wrong with you early in the morning" Lavanya said placing a hand on her heart to calm it from further racing.

NK smiled happily at her "What can be wrong with me when I'm with you?"

Lavanya sat muted for a moment before asking "Has ASR fired you?"

This broke the happy bubble of NK "What? Don't you have anything to think beyond Nannav?"

"I have lots of stuff on my mind. There is still so much left to do for Kanak's engagement. I have to finalize caterer, it's so difficult to find one in such a short span of time and have to go through this file too" she complained.

"There is a friend of mine who is in catering business. I can fix him if you want." NK offered.

"That will be great NK. You don't know how much you have helped me otherwise I would have been dead. Now I can at least concentrate on other pending works."

"I can help you in other stuffs too. And as far as this file is concerned I have read it and prepared a report on it too."

"Oh NK. You are so great and such a dear friend"

"There are no free lunches in the world La" He said.

With his words she couldn't make any proper reply other than an amused "Huh"

"But you are an exception. So you are going out on lunch with me next Monday after getting over with Kanak's engagement."

Before Lavanya could answer his absolute bossy attitude he started walking out not giving her any chance. He reached the door turned to look back at a fuming Lavanya raised his palm to his lips and said "Asta la vista Baby" giving her a flying kiss. Her jaw dropped open in shock as he winked at her and stormed out of the cabin not sparing a glance back at her.

Khushi had not seen much of Arnav in office making her free from any sort of butterflies. She ought to be happy and relieved. But she felt little restless on not knowing about his whereabouts. Actually it was more because she has a habit of meeting him daily in the elevator first in the morning. One schedule cancelled and her whole equilibrium went hay-wire.

Khushi tried keeping herself busy in the work, in which she succeeded partially too. She designed two beautiful anarkali suits but she could not keep his thoughts away from barging in her mind in between.

His actions previous day told her that he is interested in her more than a usual employee but she has royally messed it up with her blabber.

You are thinking too much Khushi. Everyone flirts in this field.

But kiss another voice piped in.

It must be normal for him. He is managing topmost fashion house of the nation. There are so many girls who can do anything for him.

A picture of Arnav with beautiful women clinging to him disturbed her mental peace. She buried herself in more work to get rid of her vivid visualization.

Payal stepped out of her office sighing as she kept thinking about the beautiful rainy weather and a handsome man. She was heading straight looking down at the road when a hand waved in front of her face just few inches away from it. She stopped and looked up to find the familiar face of Akash smiling down at her.

"Aap yahaan" she asked.

"Hi. I'm fine, thank you" he chuckled.

"Oh Hi, sorry you just surprised me" she said laughing at her stupidity.

"I was just passing by so thought to drop you home."

"It's not raining today."

"But my car works fine even when there is no rain, amazing isn't it?" Akash said in mock-surprise making Payal laugh.

"Is this the way you offer lift to all girls?" she asked.

"Usually I don't have to go past my first line, you are clearly an exception. But even if this doesn't work on you then" He shrugged and moved to open the passenger door of his car. He stood there keeping it open for her. Payal released a deep breath before muttering a thanks and taking her seat.

Though he was supposed to drop her home, he stopped mid-way to have some coffee. They both got into an easy conversation. As they talked she got to know that Akash is an MBA and works in the family business. She shared with him incidents of her job as a P.A. They mostly talked about their interests and ambition in life.

When Payal reached home she found herself smiling fully after so many days. A girl whose dreams were crashed due to societal blind ways was still supposed to weep but she had recovered fast from its blow, albeit hurt in the process. When her engagement was broken a week before her supposed marriage, when her in-laws had asked for money, she had decided that she won't ever risk her heart again. But after once again meeting Akash she realized this decision was not in her control. She could not stop herself from falling more deeply for this man who evoked different sensations in her with his single gaze. She felt those strange emotions in her heart for the very first time in her life and she was not ready to let it go for her unfair past and to regret later.

Arnav reached office nearly in the evening after attending back to back meetings with his international clients who were leaving shortly. He decided to come to office for some urgent work regarding an important meeting tomorrow.

He found Khushi bent on her seat scribbling attentively on the sheet. This sight of Khushi erased away his stress of the day. He thought to go to her but then decided against it.

Khushi was soon called for a meeting in conference room by Aman. She made her way towards it thinking the reason behind this last minute meeting when half of the employees have already retired for the day. She opened the door and found two figures already seated inside. As she went near she found Aman and Arnav there.

She smiled relieving as if she was looking at Arnav after so many days though it had been just few hours. Also the thought that she felt something strange few minutes back, a feeling she associated with Arnav being around her, made her smile.

"There is a meeting tomorrow Miss Gupta. We have to leave tomorrow morning for Neemrana"

"We??" she asked shocked.

"You, me and Aman" he answered with a straight face completely in his business demeanor.

Khushi asked him if it was necessary for her to accompany when Aman left after the discussion. He told her how the designs would be discussed making it necessary for her to be present there as she has played a key role heading the design team in absence of Jeff who has flied out of country for his other shows. Khushi discussed about their journey arrangement and left for her home knowing well that this is another opportunity to prove her ability.

A/N: I know not much of ARHI but it'll be coming in the next update.
