Part 4
Recap: Virat lies to Manvi that he cheated in her. Manvi returns back to Virat and finds out the truth about his cancer.
She entwined her fingers with his while he watched her carefully. She avoided looking directly into his eyes while he tried to make an eye contact. After sometime he gave up and both sat on the bench lost in thoughts. She acted brave and strong for him but she was still processing the new found information. She gave him hope for a new future but deep down she was scared. She wanted to hug him and cry her heart out. She knew that a drop of her tears would unnerve him and probably convince him that she cannot handle his disease. So she sat still holding his hand trying to get a grip on herself.
He looked at her from the corner of his eyes. He could see that she was on the verge of crying but she had this strong resolve on her face. She was holding it in and that scared him. He stayed silent for sometime to give her space, time but he could not take it anymore. He decided she needs to let it out otherwise her heart will explode will all the pent up frustration and pain.
He moved closer to her and slowly lifted her chin up. "Baby it is okay. You don't have to act so strong. Trust me you can cry all you want, it will make you feel better." One thing he hated was to see tears in her eyes but today he was asking her to let it out. This made her resolve stronger. Hold it in for an hour Manvi. You can't break down in front of him, she mentally chanted.
She gave a little smile and answered, "Virat I told you before we will get through this and I'm fine." She placed her palm over his cheeks and kissed his forehead. He closed his eyes and in the meantime a lone tear escaped her eyes which she wiped before he could notice.
He hugged her, crushing her to him. He was scared for her, if she wasn't in his life he wouldn't give a rat's ass to any god damn disease. But her being with him changed everything. Now he will have to fight it and not just fight but win; two lives were at stake and it all depended on him now. He will have to redeem them both, was he strong enough, he didn't know. While all these thoughts crossed his mind, unknowingly he pulled her closer.
She felt his body tense by the minute. She had her own fears but at the moment she needed to console him. She decided to deal with the calamities going inside her later. "Virat." She whispered while running her fingers through his hair.
He stiffened a little but didn't move out of the hug. He wasn't ready to let her see him so scared and broken when she was already dealing with so much.
She was thankful that he didn't pull out of the hug. There was no way she could look into his eyes at the moment without breaking down. "Everything will be fine baby. I'll be with you, I promise you. Everything will be fine." She murmured more to herself than him.
He nodded slightly. They sat there in each other's arms trying to hide their emotions from the other. After sometime he whispered, "Manvi what if."
Before he could finish the sentence she pulled out of the hug and glared at him. "Shut up. I don't want to listen to you."
"But Manvi." He tried. She wasn't having any of it. She silenced him with a look. "Virat everyone must be worried. We need to go home." She wasn't ready to talk about any what ifs and she would never be. There would be no what ifs, never.
He gave a defeated expression but didn't show any sign of wanting to leave the place.
"Stop it already Virat. Lets go home. Don't blame me if the priest leaves and we can't get married tonight." She tugged his arm but he sat on the bench not moving so much as an inch.
"Manvi please hear me out." He needed her to know what she was getting into. Marrying him meant a life without any future and he didn't want to give her that. He wanted her to be happy and live a fulfilling life which he can never give her.
She put her palm forward and spoke before he could. "If you reject me again Virat I swear to God I will go on the streets and marry a random stranger. I don't care if it is a psycho killer that locks up innocent girls. If you don't marry me tonight I will marry whoever the hell I can find roaming on the road right now." She said fiercely.
He stared at her unbelievingly. He could see that she meant every word she spoke. "Err I think it is better if you marry a cancer patient than a psycho killer unless you have any objections." There was no point in arguing with her, she would never give up on him. He gave her a huge smile and she too smiled back seeing his new found enthusiasm in him. She sat on his lap and happily announced, "I have no objections."
He crashed his lips onto hers. His one hand held her close to him while his other hand trailed over her body. She moaned his name and he pulled her closer, crashing her to his chest. Before things got out of hand she mumbled, "We need to get home. Everyone must be worried." He groaned in frustration, he didn't want to end it, he wanted to feel her. He broke the kiss but didn't let her move away. "Give me a minute." He shut his eyes and sat still holding her hands. After a minute he carried her in his arms and happily announced, "I'm ready to leave."
All the while she stared at him dreamily and prayed for the smile on his lips to never disappear.
