Last Part/Epilogue: Some Love Stories Never Die
It was the day of Rass Purnima, the most awaited day for every townsman of that place.
A huge crowd from children to ancient, from virtuous to transgressor everybody has come for one glance of Him. The women from aristocrat families and prostitutes from loathed brothel were going in the same way, immaculate Brahmin to untouchable beggar both was equally welcome to Him. He is the living God, incarnation of Sri Krishna.. the man whose one glance rinse all the sin away, Mahaprabhu Sri Chaitanya Dev is coming.
Devdutt was sitting on a stone and looking at the burned Radha-Madhab temple mindlessly. His eyes were blank like the sight in front of him was invisible to him. Till now there is the burning smell like the smell of smoke in the air. Fragrant of thousands of flowers was getting mixed up with it and making the atmosphere around him heavier. In this whole wide world nothing was making a meaning to him. The man whom he believes to be the savior of mankind, worship him as God will be reaching the place soon. Maharaja is coming with the idol to establish it in the Radha Madhab temple. Devdutt is the only fortunate one who will do the arti along with Him. But his mind was not letting him be happy forget peace. He looked at the crowd. A raw-boned, diseased man with no legs is crawling towards the temple. Crowd gave him a detested looks but he was all smiling, his eyes were saying how his heart is in peace. And here he the honorable, reverend Priest .. peace has left him forever.
He shifted his eyes towards the temple. Burned, destroyed, standing like a malformed shapeless debris bearing sign of his vengeance. He didn't get Geetasri but he didn't let Maanendra to have her. He has won the game. No memory of Maanendra Geetasri love remains in this mundane. He burned them, destroyed them in his own hand. Not a single sculptor is unhurt unimpaired to speak their love. He has erase them from the pages of time, neither contemporary nor history .. nobody will sang their saga. Still satisfaction was nowhere near to his heart. Till now sculptor's last words are ringing in his ear. "you can destroy everything Devdutt, you can even kill me, you can kill her ... But our love has taken us in such a place in such a height, that no human being can touch us. My art, my sculpture has immortalized us... You have to bend yourself in front of us... even if you don't want. And the day will come very soon."
Every sound, every music falling faint in front of those words echoing in his brain. Every cell of his body was reminding him he has lost badly. No matter they are dead or alive they are immortal with their love. And he is bending in front of them.
He didn't noticed how long he was sitting there. When noise of crowed replaced by sound of conch, when chariot of King entered the temple arena and when King of all kings the God himself entered the temple. Voice of a girl broke his trance. A young devdasi was calling her. Devdutt tried to perceive what she is saying. The king is looking for him. In his absence puja is incomplete. He entered the temple like a comatose. Whole temple is decorated with fragrant flowers still exceeding their perfume a burning smell came into his nostril. He looked around. Smiling happy faces were making the unsightly architect beautiful. He discovered a smiling Raklaxmi after so many days standing with a simple looking skinny man. He has already seen him somewhere Devdutt thought. Yes in the court of Maharaj, Shantanu is his name. The new royal priest. Rajlaxmi is going there as priestess. May she live a blissful life there Devdutt wished in his mind with a tinge of smile in his lips. So many known and unknown faces were there. After so many days Mandodari devi has come out of her cottage with her little son, Jeevak. But it is difficult to recognize them. Her glamour was gone but a splendid glow was surrounding her like the Buddhist nun of old days. Every single person here is enlightened in His light.. Mahapravu Sri Chaitanya Dev, except him. His contracted heart went smaller. It feared what if His innocent eyes recognize his true self. What if he couldn't stand in front of his God. He wanted to ran away but that very moment again the pure sound of Sankh echoed in the walls of temple. Devdutt realized he is standing on the stairs of Garvagriha. Deity is already established in its place, only the smoke was preventing his eyes to see it. His feet trembled in confusion when a low rugged voice whispered in his ear, "they are alive and they are together. They are yet to reach Bengal. We still can assassin them if you order." Devdutt's weak mind was suspicious and curious so he appointed men to gather information. So he was right he has been defeated by Maanendra. His heart burned and he was going to reply in positive but the view in front of him changed in a moment leaving him mute. The smoke faded away and the deity became prominent in his vision. Small, stone made idol of hardly one foot. Idol of Radha-Krishna made by Maanendra adored with garlands, flowers. Hundreds of diya was illuminating the idol. And in the light of hundred pure flame Devdutt saw them .. no it was not them, they were not there .. still he could see them, feel them. Their eyes their smile, curved on the deity. He saw without blinking Radha-Madhav deity standing there narrating their story, making them immortal and the living God, avatar of Sri Krishna himself, Mahaprabhu Sri Chaitanya Dev is praying bending down in front of the deity. His golden skin, his beautiful lotus bud like eyes, Godly splendor was turning the garvagriha of broken temple into heaven. He was looking at the idol without blinking his eyes. Slowly he put a garland on the deity. Devdutt observed the sight in front of him. The man was going to ask same question again, Devdutt stopped him with a hand gesture. His eyes were still fixed in the same place. Now he knows death of Maanendra won't change the fact, killing or him, abduction of Geetasri will never let him win. No matter what he does this was an end game where he defeated .. no matter Maanendra and Geetasri remain alive or not, no matter they are together or not .. their love is the ultimate winner. No mortal being has the power to change it. God himself has immortalize them. Devdutt didn't speak a word only his eyes roamed from the deity to Mahaprabhu, from Mahaprabhu to Radha Madhav. He gradually entered the garvagriha. A slogan was coming from the crowd outside, "Jai Radha-Madhab, Jai Mahaprabhu, Jai Sri ChaitanyaDev. Devdutt lifted the panchapradeep in his hand. The weight of Panchapradeep felt havier than a mountain to him.. his biggest punishment his like he remembered. He started doing aarti. Face of stone made idol lit up in the light of its flames.
