Six TV stars who made it big in Bollywood
From our living rooms to the big screen, these actors have come a long way in the world of glamour. While the returns on the big screen are much bigger, so is the hard work. Postnoon gives you a list of six TV celebs who left the TRP worries behind just to make waves at the box office.
SRK: The Raj of Bollywood or the King of the Hindi film industry today, Shah Rukh Khan has come a long way from his small screen world. Commando Abhimanyu Rai in his critically-acclaimed debut TV series Fauji, who knew SRK would become the superstar of Bollywood someday. He gained mass recognition for his role and later starred in Aziz Mirza's Circus, also a TV series. Soon after, SRK kickstarted his film career with Dil Ashna Hai and Deewana. The then young, scrawny TV actor with a prominent Adam's apple, SRK has not looked back since.

Rajeev Khandelwal: The modern-day angry young man in the industry, Rajeev is well known for his television performances and deserves a pat on his back for the movie scripts he chooses. The angry Sujal in Ekta Kapoor's Kahin Toh Hoga, Rajeev made his mark on TV and proved that even a soap actor could in fact act. The man with the raw appeal made his Bollywood debut in Aamir (2008). Unlike movies today, Aamir comprised a brilliant script and a surprisingly good soundtrack. His role as Inspector Arvind Mathur in Shaitan too deserves praise.

Vidya Balan: The lady with balls as magazines like to call her today, Vidya Balan has successfully carved a top spot for herself in Bollywood. Her affair with acting started on TV with Hum Paanch in 1995 – she was just 16. Post the comedy series, Balan appeared in a number of music videos before she walked into Bengali cinema. Ten years later, her first break in Bollywood was Parineeta. Even though Balan is a media favourite for her bad fashion sense, movie offers poured in post her debut success. She gained massive popularity for The Dirty Picture, Paa, Lage Raho Munna Bhai and Ishqiya.

Ram Kapoor: Winner of numerous television awards, Ram Kapoor has time and again proved that he is a promising actor with a smile to die for. Even though he has been expanding — literally — since his TV debut in Sudhir Mishra's Nyay (1997), Kapoor gained recognition for his role in Ghar Ek Mandir (2000) opposite wife Gautami Gadgil. The actor's tryst with Bollywood started in 2005 with – Devaki, Kal and Missed Call. However, Kapoor's first commercial break was Karthik Calling Karthik and he gained critical appreciation for his roles in Udaan and Student of the Year.

Ayushmann Khurrana: The MTV star took the industry by storm with his titular role in Vicky Donor last year. A commercial and critical success, the movie and its cast was one of a kind. Khurrana, who became a TV icon with his Roadies Season 2 win, seems to be climbing Bollywood's superstar ladder quickly too. Playing a spoilt Punjabi boy in his debut film, Khurrana was definitely the right choice for the laugh riot.

Prachi Desai: This damsel, who has mostly been distressed on Indian television, now has something to be happy about. With films like Rock On, Bol Bachchan and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai in her kitty, Prachi is slowly climbing her way to the top. She kicked off her TV career as Bani in Zee TV's Kasamh Se and gained instant success. Desai gained overnight popularity after her first film performance as Farhan Akhtar's wife in Rock On. Film critic Taran Adarsh said: "Prachi brings in a lot of freshness and poise. Plus, she's a competent actor."
